Lansing: ‘A City on the Move’
LANSING, MICH. – The Senior Softball USA Northern Championships returns here in August in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament that is expected to attract a record number of teams.
Senior softball players will battle it out on the diamonds from Aug. 22-25 to see who comes out on top and wins a spot in the 2014 Tournament of Champions.
This is the sixth year Lansing has hosted the Northern Championships and the university city is recognized as one of the softball capitals of the region.
In fact, Lansing has hosted several Senior Softball tournaments, including not only the Northern Championships, but also the Eastern Nationals in 2005 and 2006.
Mike Price, manager of sports development for the city, said, “The Northern Championships is an event our community looks forward to all summer long.”
Last year’s tournament drew 47 teams from the Great Lakes region in what became one of the most closely contested tournaments of the year.
The capital of Michigan lies along the banks of the scenic Grand River in mid-Michigan. Visitors can celebrate the invention of the automobile at the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, explore Michigan history and culture at the Library of Michigan and Historical Museum, and even learn firsthand how cheese and ice cream are made at the Michigan State University Dairy Complex.
The city’s convention and visitor’s bureau likes to say that Greater Lansing is a one-of-a-kind setting for a visit to remember.
Visitors can explore nearly endless dining options, browse unique boutiques and celebrate culture and the arts in the city’s world-class performance venues and galleries.
