Discussion: WHO GETS THE BALL??

Situation:

3rd inning....batting team has just scored 4 runs...and has a runner on 3rd base (the potential 5th run)...

NO OUTS....

The outfielders are called in to play just behind the infielders to try to stop the 5th run from scoring.

The batter hits the ball easily over the outfielders heads...the runner on 3rd base scores the 5th run ending the inning.

So the question now is...

WHO GETS THE BALL?

Should the outfielders of the defending team that were playing just behind the infielders have waste time and energy by going out to the fence to get the ball? Especially if they are going to bat next?

Or should the outfielder of the team that just batted, and is already headed in that direction get the ball?

Is it considered "poor sportsmanship" if the defending team outfielders don't get the ball?

What's your opinion?

Discussion: Talking Trash

From Little League on up, team practices teach and practice the skills of the game. I have never, ever seen "Trash Talk" being promoted or practiced by any coach, at any team practice. Why not?

Who wants to be thought of as "That guy with the trash mouth"? Who really wants to be like Mike? Not me.
Sure, they got away with it.
Who thinks we should be teaching kids how to "Trash Talk", because they did it?

I for one would much rather act like a Joe DiMaggio, Tony Gwynn or Derek Jeter on the playing field than any of the others mentioned above. All with great ability and very little mouth! All Class Acts!

Yelling "You Suck" (especially from the outfield) to players on the other team or people you don't know, is just ignorant. Who ever said "We won because we out Trash Talked those guys"? Or instead of "nice catch" they say, "that was great Trash Talking?"

Discussion: Should you be able to go for hits between the second baseman and shortstop

I forgot to mention an experiment that we tried a few years ago.

We were having a batting practice when one of the hitters wanted to see if he could hit the ball into net that the pitcher was pitching from behind. The pitcher pitched 10 balls to the experienced hitter. Would you believe the hitter actually hit a ball directly into the net only twice? He hit mostly line drives over the net and a few grounders into the net. So for the fun of it, we all wanted to see if we could do much better. What we found interesting was that none of us did much better. We all seemed to hit mostly line drives about 18 to 30 inches over the net. Yes, there were some direct hits but not near as many as we thought we could hit into the net. We didn't count grounders into the net as direct hits.

Also keep in mind that the net is both Taller and Wider than the average size pitcher.

Any of reading this can try it yourself, just make sure the netting is secure and not rotten so as to not have an accident and hurt the pitcher.

I'm not sure about you guys.

But I don't know of anybody that can place hit a ball exactly where they want it 100% of the time. If they could, they would never make an out.

If there are that many hitters that can place hit a ball with that kind of pin point accuracy then there must be a lot of hitters out there that I don't know about. And they all must be boasting about having .1000 batting averages!

How many hitters do you know of that have a .1000 batting average after about 100 at bats? Do they exist? If so, how many can you name?

If they are that good then why would they hit at the pitcher, and maybe have to race to first base, when they can easily place it anywhere they want on the field?

Discussion: WHAT ABOUT THE NEXT GENERATION REEBOK?

Does anybody have any info or news about the NEXT Generation Reebok Senior bat?

My last Reebok broke after about 2.5 months.

So I'm not very interested in getting another one of those pieces of junk.

However, I haven't given up on Reebok Bats all together.

I'm hoping the next models will "hold up" better and still have a reasonable amount of "pop".

I was told the NEXT Generation Reebok Senior Bat will be available in late August or September, but no price was mentioned.

Is any of this true?

Thanks for any info you provide.

You have indicated 2 things in your last reply.

2) You are a slow learner!

Thanks for your reply.

But none of you have answered why Slow Pitch softball is exempt from the same rules applied to all other forms of the same game.

In baseball, hockey and other sports rules were made making head protection mandatory.

How will you feel should you throw a ball that changes somebody's life?

Have you been hit and had to take the ambulance to the hospital?
Your family wondering if you'll become a vegetable or dead?

Also do you have the same attitude toward wearing seat belts in your car?

I have read the pros/cons of hot bats.

I know about the double first base.

I know about the second home plate.

ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE ABOUT SAFETY ISSUES.

A few months ago I witnessed a hitter running to 1st base after hitting the ball to the 3rd baseman. The 3rd baseman threw the ball wide to 1st base hitting the runner in the head. The runner suffered a concussion. He never saw it coming because he was watching where he was running.

Last week as I was running to 2nd base the ball was thrown from the area of the right field foul line missing my head by the narrowest of margins. I was nearly hit in the temple. Never saw it coming!

In Fast Pitch Softball at all levels, base runners have to wear batting helmets.

In all levels of baseball from Little League to Major League, base runners have to wear batting helmets.

SO WHY IS IT THAT IN SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL,
BATTING HELMETS FOR BASE RUNNING ARE NOT USED OR REQUIRED?

Are you listening SSUSA?
