STLO...Yes this actually occurred.....Anything Is possible....The way it happen was exactly the way you described it! " I just can't see that happening unless the runner on 1st just took a few steps and then went right"....See how smart you are!

.....Runner on 1st one out…. ground ball hit to the 1st basemen…. 1st basemen throws to SS for force out…. runner that was on 1st veers out of the base line in order to not interfere with the throw from the SS…. 2nd basemen is running to cover 1st base for the double play and collides into forced runner who veered out of the baseline, throws comes to 1st base in which no one is there to cover.
Because the 2nd basemen was running over to cover 1st , is it interference on the force out player for colliding with the 2nd basemen that was trying to cover 1st? or is it just a no call since it was accidental contact? Actually the 2nd basemen ran into the forced runner!

TwinMotors, this a classic example of SSUSA...specifically George...He never answer emails, he's rude, he doesn't attend tournaments, but is left to rate teams & players, base on an old outdated formula, I could on & on...in a customer base business ,like SSUSA where you employ the likes of a Fannie & Dave & some of the other directors, whom most players and teams know and like very well and to leave a rating system up to one individual is beyond my believe! Players have been complaining about his tactics for years..it all seems to fall on deaf ears, when mention to Terry......He will more then likely delete this thread and not respond to your request Twin Motor....I've been waiting on a reply from him for over 4 years now on the same topic. I have other words, that I would like to use in regards to him, But I might get a life time band if I do!!!! LOL
Good Luck on a response but don't hold your breath.

Discussion: NorCal Warriors bumped to Major Plus

The bump-up is based on a formula and the person making the decision very rarely shows up to tournaments and has a very bad attitude when you go through the appeals process, that's why the process won't change! Their attitude is, if you don't like my decision, then don't play SSUSA. This process has been around for years and is Bible in their humble opinion! Since there's not a player rating system in SSUSA, the reasoning for moving a NEW team up in the middle of the season, IMO just makes NO SENSE AT ALL, even if they win every tournament. So what if they dominate for 1 year! If their roster warrants a move up it should be done before the very 1st tourney, not after finishing 1st or 2nd in a tourney with more than 6 teams!

Discussion: NorCal Warriors bumped to Major Plus

Tim for once I have to agree with you...The rating system that SSUSA uses is very suspect IMO...George being the sole decision maker for theses bump ups as well as his computer analysis and NOT taking into account the competition that the Warriors played against IMO is vital in making such decisions.....

NO TEAM should ever get bumped in the middle of the season, NO MATTER HOW MANY tournaments they have won...This never takes place for the east coast teams, they always get moved after they compete in the Worlds, but it is what it is and along as the current system is in place, it will always be that way!

Bye the way, if they didn't Win Cal Cup, they would still be a major team, Unless the won the Western Nationals!

Discussion: New Dudley Lightning

I just got back from Dalton Ga. SPA world, we played a team called Good Times from Florida and they were hitting the DOO Doo out the ball with this Dudley!
I mean little guys hit em high and far....I want one! this looks to be a very nice piece of equipment that should be in my bat bag! The only bad thing was they ran out of gas hitting so many Bombs and Rated Athletics came out the winner of the SPA 50+ Major World division!! Congrats Vice and the rest of the team it was very Fun!

Discussion: What was to consensus on DBO Homerun rule after Rock N Roll Reno?

Mango,
The DBO is great DEFENSE, if you have a hitter that has no bat control and his team is out of homers, A good pitcher will serve it up, cause this guys has no bat control he hits it out, it causes the defense to get an OUT! Not saying it's right, but it is the rules we play bye!
Just like trash talking, IMO is good defense, some will disagree and say it's unsportsmanship, but if you allow me to get in your head and you make an out, I've played good defense!

Discussion: What was to consensus on DBO Homerun rule after Rock N Roll Reno?

Tim why beat a dead horse...Just 3 years ago the rule was DBO after the limit was reached......The rule last year made for longer and more boring games in the + division......The reason I like the DBO is because if you're playing at the Major & Major + level, you should be talented enough to ADJUST! If your only swing is hitting bombs, then maybe your not as good as you think you are! The DBO makes for real good game adjusting, saving your Home runs for when they really count! (i.e. 3 run bombs, 2 run bombs when your 5th run is at the plate with 2 outs etc etc) That's good softball! Solo's suck as we say!
So to answer your question, there were no real effects as far as the games I played in & watched! Our team hit our homers in timely fashion! That's what good teams & players do!

Discussion: Hitting

One thing me and my BP group does per session is the Last 12 Ball swings we call our hitting percentage ..i.e. 10 for 12 8 for 12, that makes us concentrate ! We will wait for good pitches then hit our spots...The guys that don't hit their quota, have to buy the after BP Beer......It really makes you have that game time concentration while taking BP.... When I put this topic on the board, i was wondering how many of you big time hitters would reply....Thanks Mike, Steven(myIdol) Imay and the rest of the group!

Discussion: Hitting

So we all agree practice makes perfect..But does it really?? I'm sure we all know guys who takes as much BP as the masses and hit the SH!%% of the ball in BP, but can't hit they're way out of a wet paper bag during games....Bad mechanics and a lot of BP don't mix! I think Hitting in games is all situational, and most good hitters have different swings for those different situations or different pitch selection for the situations! i.e. outside pitch to hit behind the runners, Middle Pitch to hit middle, 5 6 hole pitch, and the all and noting Cookie for the Dinger!!

What makes a good consistent hitter? I mean the guys that hit 700+ each and every time you play with or against them?

Is it Swing Mechanics? or Pitch Selection?

Discussion: Throwing

Webbie, I was a heavy weight lifter in our 20's & 30's, you know to look good for the ladies..lol...I've always had an above average arm, from as long back a Pee Wee ball, When I lifted, my arm sucked BIG Time, I stopped lifting and after a few months the motion comes back...I'm just like everyone else, I don't practice throwing, aside from warming up for BP & games, & when shagging balls in BP I try to practice hitting the BP bag to keep my accuracy in check, but that's about it!
There are so many factors involved in throwing guys out going from 1st to 3rd and 2n'd to home. Getting in good throwing position, charging the ball, seeing the runner, catching the ball on a good hop, the transfer from glove to hand, gripping the ball, foot work in position, bunny hop, release & follow though with wrist snap! Then watching the guy, walk to the dugout...PRICELESS!

LOL

I would think more like 2-3 mph with a lot of practice....5-8 mph seems little much...Major league ball players don't add 5-8 you never see pitcher's go from 88 to 93 mph or 93 to 98.
I think as ball players, that's the one thing we all have in common, "we all pretty much have what we have" seem funny, but I find it true to form 99.9% of the time..

Mario, I'll have to disagree with "Arm strength can be improved, just like hitting can be improved" No way, No how!! All the practice in the world will not make an average arm a gun! Weights and hitting practice can make you a better power hitter, only because your swing strength has increased, long toss will slightly strengthen it, but just a little, proper technique will also help a little, but IMO you have what you have, pop gun, pistol, or cannon! LOL

Webbie, we agree strong legs do help throwing....Most of the guys that know I teach Spin are tried of me mentioning it to them.....LOL For me, it keeps the Blood Pressure & Cholesterol in check. One thing I don't do is lift weights, all cardio, lifting weight REALLY messes up my throwing motion, the muscles look good, but I cant hit the cut off man. I think the Yoga helps also! Keeps me loose and fluid! Keep riding that bike and since you have beat me on the field, we both win! LOL

Webbie, I'm an instructor for 24 hour fitness...I've taught as many as 5 classes in one day, the class is an hour...I usually teach five classes a week! The bikes have tension adjustment on the flywheel to simulate hills and the pace is based on the music I play.. I used to be a runner and the old knees won't allow the pounding, so I discovered biking, but had too many close calls with my fellow car drivers, so Spinning was it for me, I've burned as much as 1600 calories in an hour spinning, the only thing I find more rewarding is swimming & Softball.
I would love to join you for your hill rides, sounds like fun, especially the Coasting back down hill....LOL

Webbie, That's great..Any type of Cardio where you're using your legs will always help with throwing...Just remember to stop coasting and medal at least 1/2 your bike ride...LOL I love it when outdoor bike riders come to my spin class and can't keep up, that's the 1st thing I tell them "you have to keep the pedals going indoors", there's NO coasting...LOL and Watch out for them cars!

Webbie, thanks for the kind words.....I guess we are all in agreement, that throwing is God given and most guys don't practice throwing at all. Most guys don't practice throwing, is because most guys don't know how to throw properly....Meaning over the top, good leg push, and follow-though with wrist snap upon release...Some guys have told me i have a weird release, I always say I throw with my wrist, not my arm....The only bad thing with having a good arm is 1 throw and then guys won't run anymore....Makes for no fun sometimes on my end!
I have also notice a lot of guys don't charge the ball either, making it a even longer throw to the cut-off man. Long Toss has always help me stay fluid, as well as yoga & Spinning (indoor bike Cycling) try it, it might help you!

Omar, TX, Fred you all are correct, most players don't practice throwing, and most of them warm up with that DAM HEAVY BALL, I always wondered why, to me it seems like going into the gym, and pressing 300 lbs and then start your workout with 150 lbs....My arm hurt me for 3 months after using that heavy ball.
I also find that lifting heavy weights cuts down on a fluid throwing motion, which cause weaker throws! Yes, as we age, the strength starts to leave, but so does the base runners speed, so I guess it's a wash! LOL
