I do appreciate you being open to discussing a potential solution to our dissatisfaction with the scheduling. I find it unfortunate that the one team which was opposed to the possible change doesn’t want more teams to play. Can’t understand their logic and can only assume they unsure of their team’s capabilities and fear they’d lose. That’s disappointing to say the least. Thank you, Dave, I know what you do is not easy and to have to take an earful from women? God bless you. ;o) To the one team that was in favor of the change - thank you very much! Good luck in your division’s bracket play!! |
| April 3, 2021 Albie34 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS - Women’s 50s Divisions SSUSA - Are you kidding me right now? I’m a little regretful that we made it off the wait list and into the tourney. Had I known the Women’s 50s divisions would be split up for bracket play, I don’t think we would’ve entered our team. We’re spending a lot of money for a THREE DAY, 5 team tournament where we end up playing a Best 2 out of 3 Championship against the same team we always play. All the teams in “AAA” are very competitive and five minutes ago, two of them were classified as Major. Now they’re not. I don’t understand why we can’t be kept in bracket play with them and still spot if we have to (not that they need it). I’m really disappointed in the way this has played out. Now we’re stuck - we’ll lose a crap ton of money, so backing out isn’t an option. Please reconsider keeping us with the other 50s with the equalizers. |

Yes, we were told we were to be awarded Adidas turfs for winning the TGS. I'm trying to find out if it is only the Women who didn't receive their award. Way back when, Adidas said they didn't have any women's turfs to offer and I've been following up to this day. Still don't have a resolution and it's been almost a year. |

I will definitely give you a call later this week. As for airing it out on this message board, I did so b/c I thought this was a forum for softball players to communicate and offer ideas and constructive suggestions for improvements. I know most of the Women's 50s teams (and some 40s) feel the same way my team does and we want to voice our concerns publicly so you/SSUSA can hear us and improve the way the Women's divisions are scheduled. The reality for us is that we're disappointed that we have to be scheduled into/around a crap ton of Men's teams that we (women's division) are not fortunate enough to have. Thanks for listening. |
| July 15, 2019 Albie34 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: LVSSA/SSUSA WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS SSUSA - This weekend, it was brought to my attention that you switched the World Masters Championships (for the W50s division) from a 2-Day tournament to a 3-Day tournament. Why do this when you know we 50s DO NOT have enough teams to stretch a tournament out for us into 3 days? That's ridiculous!! Also, we've already made travel plans for the 2-Day tournament and by October, a number of people have already used their vacation time, so they won't be able to take the Friday off. It's bad enough we're traveling to Nationals/Sacramento for a 4 team tournament, that I'm sure will be broken out into a best 2 out of 3 because you don't want 50s Majors playing 50s AAA in bracket play. Quite honestly, for 4 teams and if you do the best 2 out of 3 thing, we could've forgone the seeding (totally not needed) and done the best 2 out of 3 games in ONE DAY. It is inconsiderate for the World Masters (W50s division) to be stretched out to 3 days when it was originally planned as a 2 day tournament and we've already planned for this since the schedule was released. Had it not been brought to my attention, I don't know when I would've found out because I don't check your site frequently. It's not right to change the dates IN JULY. Also, I don't understand why don't you play later into the evening for the younger divisions instead of ending the day in the mid/late afternoon. If we're able to do a 2 Day tournament, we wouldn't mind going later and playing into the evening! Please change our W50s division back to a 2 Day tournament as it was planned originally. |
| May 23, 2019 Albie34 | Topic: Women's softball Discussion: SO CAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - Women’s 50s Major Hey All, please don’t take this the wrong way...this thread was originally directed to SSUSA (Dave) and Women’s teams. And Dave’s made it clear about the Bracket Math that needs to be done when he gets back from Reno. That is understood. The WOMEN’S divisions do not have as good of turnouts as the MEN’s divisions normally do. We are only ASKING to reconsider making it a two-day tournament and we’ll wait to find that out after June 4th. The only thing about having to wait until June 4th is that we’re making a commitment to enter an expensive tournament with a possibility we won’t have enough women to field a team for games played on Friday. For us Women, it’s a bit difficult to field a team for Friday games as we all are still working, none of us are retired, nor do we have a plethora of players to cover the missing ones, like Men’s teams do. There are obviously more Men that play ball than Women. I already know I have 6 women on my team that can’t make it out for Fridays games if the dates of play remain the same. With those 6 unable to make it and the ones who’ve already responded they can’t play because of other commitments, I’m gonna be hard-pressed to find players to cover on Friday. I’ll probably have about as much fun finding players as Dave has doing his “Bracket Math” to figure out the fields. ;o) One last question, DAVE/SSUSA, can you schedule games a little later into the evening instead of stopping in the late afternoon? I think we Women wouldn’t mind playing later into the evening on Saturday if that’s an alternative. @TimMcElroy, with all due respect...having W40s start on Friday, “it’s only fair”? I don’t agree. We usually get the raw end of the deal. Having something go our way once in a while is lucky. How fair was it for us that Women’s dates of play for Reno, back to back years, fell on the most expensive travel weekend, Memorial Weekend? We didn’t go this year because of it. Unfortunately, we can’t see the logic in paying the expense for what turns out to be a 3 team bracket (at best, 5 team). Dave, thanks for all you do. We appreciate the work you put into organizing these tournaments. I, as a Team Manager, had to ask! |

There is no need to drag it out 3 days, when there are only 4 or 5 teams that participate in the 50s Major division. A lot of us are still working, and to take off a day of work for two games is ridiculous. Women’s 50s teams - do you agree our tournament shouldn’t be dragged out to 3 days? Please chime in. It's actually not fair for the same divisions to be subjected to the high prices of a holiday weekend back to back years. It's bad enough the women's divisions don't have as many teams as men's and we fly out for a two-team best 2 out of 3 tourney, but to make us play on the expensive holiday weekend for possibly the same thing is going to deter us from making the trip out. Thank you for letting me know Magic Stuff Fossils will be out there, Jette. Any other W50 Majors???? |

My team is questioning our participation this year because everything, travel/accommodations, is more expensive on the holiday weekend...they don’t think it’s worth the expense for what will possibly be a “best 2 out of 3” tournament for us (as it was last year). Unfortunately, we aren’t sponsored - everything is paid for out of our own pockets. Women’s 50s Teams - Are any W50s Major teams planning on going to Reno this year? |

Seeing as there are only 4 teams in the Women's 50's division, I'm hoping you're going to make our tournament a 2 day (Saturday/Sunday) tournament instead of dragging it out for 3 days. We all work still (not lucky enough to be retired) and would really like to avoid having to take Friday off. Please seriously consider changing it to a 2 day - I know they've been 2-dayers in the past. We'll need to make/change our travel arrangements accordingly so please let us know soon. Thank you!!! |

For the past 3 years we've been placed elsewhere. 2015 Friday/Saturday at Pinnacle, Sunday we were lucky to play the final games there. 2014 we were at Arroyo Grande. 2013 we were at Pinnacle and Shadow Rock. 2012 we were at Dos Escuelas. Can us Women please enjoy a full tournament at BLD this year?? Not fair to let the Men play there all the time. We don't have that many Women's teams to squeeze us into 2 or 3 of BLD's fields. |
