Discussion: Columbus LX shows senior softball class

Perl, for some reason, after I arrived back home yesterday, I could not access this message on my computer. I went ahead and entered my thoughts, but could not read your's until this morning.
My family and I truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

As you know, I had gall bladder surgery 2 days before Mena's difficulty and then on May 25 had a crisis with my pancreas. 6 days in the hospital and almost left twice! Doing well now, but do need continued prayers.

To all the softball community: faith and prayers and the mercy of Our Lord is really important. God bless you all.

Discussion: Proud to be an honorary member of Columbus LX!!

The Peach State Classic is always one of the best SPA tourneys of the year. This year was no different, but what made it more special and meaningful was the graciousness, kindness, and thoughtfulness of the Columbus LX softball team and other friends as well.

Out of the goodness of their hearts, they made an old grandpa cry a few tears, but they were tears of joy and appreciation. When I asked for prayers for my granddaughter, Mena, back at the end of May, that was all I wished for--just everyone's prayers. Your prayers were miraculously answered in that she survived and is doing wonderfully well. Instead of multiple plastic surgeries, it will be minimal requirements and scarring to her face. She has no memory of the attack and still loves dogs!!

Columbus LX and others didn't just stop with prayers, however. Tickets to SIX Flags for Mena and Family, and a very generous love offering have reminded me of some very special lessons: There are still a great many truly good people in this old cynical world and sometimes an old grandpa doesn't really know how many friends he has until the Lord chooses to use an unusual event to to reveal it to him. From the bottom of my heart, thanks to all!

Thanks, Joe. We are more solid this year and hope to continue to be competitive.

I hope it has not hurt us in that we did not get to play in Pensacola. It will be 2 months between tourneys.

Of course, I may have to be a spectator for the rest of the season--gall bladder surgery April 24 and pancreas attack on May 25! I almost did not make it, but am feeling very well now and improving daily.

Thanks, Perl. My team is not able to attend Pensacola, so I guess we will see everyone in Marietta.

My teams have been playing Ga/Al for the past ten years or more. In all those years we have defeated you once! I think it was in Marietta about 9 years ago, we were up by 18 runs in the top of the 7th--Ga/Al scored 19 in the bottom!

Mena continues to improve; thanks again for your thoughtfulness.
Wood, glad to hear that your triplets are doing wonderfully well. You are right about grandchildren; they keep us young; they keep us laughing and on our toes.
I have 4 grands--3 girls and a boy. A few weeks ago, my 5yo asked me "Why did God make mean people?"!
The other day, my 7yo grandson had a discussion with his dad about needing a haircut. His dad informed him that when he was born, he had a head full of hair. My grandson's response: "Was it more than grandpa's armpits?"!

Fabe, you are also correct. We need to proclaim God's grace and mercy. God is indeed, Good!

My granddaughter, Mena, is doing wonderfully well. The difference between the Children's Hospital emergency room, Thursday night, April 24 and now is indeed miraculous. There will be minimal scarring on her face and the only memory she has of the dog attack is staring into the face of the dog!

I shared with Robbie Faucett a few days ago that one of the great blessings of senior softball for me is getting to meet and hear from great people who are so kind and thoughtful. Your willingness to offer prayers on behalf of Mena are greatly appreciated. God bless you!

Discussion: Your Prayers are Needed

Thank you all for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Your prayers have meant a great deal to me and family for the last few days.

The emergency room at Children's Hospital, Birmingham, was awesome in their response to Mena. We were advised that due to loss of tissue in her right cheek to expect multiple surgeries. We were also advised to keep her out of school the rest of the school year and out of direct sunlight for several months. We were asked to keep her on a liquid diet until further notice.

Below is the message I just sent to my teammates, the Strykers.

Thankfully, much better. We met with a plastic surgeon and after the examination, he seemed to be very pleased with the stitches, no infection, and stated that he did not expect further surgeries, unless something unexpected happens. He thinks there will be minimum scarring.

She is very swollen and bruised, as well as shaken for sure, but getting back to her old self.

Mena will go back to school in 2 weeks! She is eating soft foods and doing great. Praise the Lord and thanks so much.

Discussion: Your Prayers are Needed

My granddaughter, Mena, is 9 years old. She was born with a rare kidney disease, and as a result, is waiting on a transplant. Her Father will be donating his left kidney, when the time comes.

Last thursday night, a huge rotweiler dashed out of his owner's door, ran straight to Mena, who was standing about 30 feet away and attacked her. He clamped down on her face, piercing her right cheek. There were many more lacerations, amounting to 80-100 stitches in here face.

Thankfully, several neighbors were close by and they beat and kicked the dog into submission, releasing her from his grip. An emergency room trip followed; scared parents and grandparents; a lot of blood, many tears.

More thankfully, 24 hours later, Mena was cleaned up, stitches in place, and she was beginning to act like her old self to a great degree--perhaps a bit subdued and obviously still shaken.

Reason for request: We meet with plastic surgeons tomorrow. Several surgeries are thought necessary right now. There is greater concern over how all this will affect her kidney situation.

We need nothing more than your prayers, but also nothing less!! Thanks, Steve

I am not familiar with this "handle", but if this is my good friend Gil, then he would be a great addition to your team. Good man, team player, good offensively and defensively. Someone give him a chance!

Armiho, you are so right about the Cuban Missile Crisis. When I returned from Vietnam, I served my last year+ in Ft. Lewis, Washington. Ft. Lewis was basic training; I was a supply sergeant. Several of the drill instructors talked to me about being on the beaches of Miami, just waiting on ordrs to invade.

Tater, hope you are feeling much better. We do have a 2/1 Cav website. I will research yours as well.
The primary reason I asked is that April 1, 1970 has some significance for 2/1 members. If you are interested in reading about the "Battle of Song Mao", just go to 2/1 Cavalry.com, link to 1/50 Mech. and look under Vietnam War Stories to Song Mao.
