Hey Duke...we're bringing a 55 AAA team and it will be our first together as well. Our team (Doubleplay) is splitting up into 50 & 55's now that 1/2 of us are getting a little long in the tooth to be playing with the youngsters. Look forward to seeing you there.

Hey Brett...we were moved to Majors last year and played the whole year at the major level. We decided not to revamp our team because we are all good friends and took our lumps to say the least with an astounding .382 winning percentage. We were moved back to AAA this year.

Discussion: California Fires

3 Days ago I was sitting in my garage getting my gear ready for Phoenix. Today I am watching anxiously at the path of these fires and the devastation they are leaving behind . We are one of the more fortunate ones since our home is in a low fire area, but I know for a fact that there are many of you that are not as fortunate. To my teamates and fellow senior ballplayers here in Southern California, our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Hey Andy...Haven't read the message board in a few days and saw your post from 4 days ago. I called Hiram and left him a message this morning. He just called me back and said he got in touch and you guys are going to play with the Hawaii boys in Vegas. Have a great time and tell Hiram and the boys Mahalo for me. Mike - Doubleplay 50's

Andy:

I talked to Hiram from the Hawaii team today and they are in need of a couple of players for Vegas. He can be reached at 808-268-5502. We've had the pleasure of playing with and against these guys the last couple of years in the Maui tournament and they're a great bunch of guys. Good luck!

Discussion: Maui Tournament - 2007

Fabe,

This is a yearly tournament that is put on every May by the Florida Senior Softball Association (Ed Rose & Mike Walker) and Bob Straub, the Hawaii USSSA Director. I don't know for sure if there is an actual name attached to it, but these guys really work hard to ensure that having a good time for the players and their families is the number one priority.

Discussion: Maui Tournament - 2007

We just returned from the annual Maui softball tournament held last week and I just wanted to take this opportunity to say mahalo to Ed Rose, Mike Walker, Audie Hollis and all the rest of the Florida team who once again made this an event to remember forever.

This tournament is just getting better and better every year we attend. The locals really roll out the red carpet for all of the players and their families and made us all feel very welcomed. The opening and closing ceremonies with the traditional Hawaiian prayer and blessing was absolutely incredible.

This was my second year attending this tournament and we're already making plans to be there again next year. For most of us, tournaments come and go and we forget about them but this tournament experience will be etched in our memories forever.

Once again, thanks to everyone involved for making this year's event so special, and my best to you and your lovely families that we were so fortunate to get to know. See you next year!

Discussion: lasik

Just had lasik surgery in January. I had it done on one eye only (for reading) since my distance eye was still 20-20. It can take up to 3 or 4 months for your eyes to fully adjust after the surgery, especially if you have it done for reading only. . I really like the fact that I'm not looking for my reading glasses anymore. Right now the only problem I still have is tracking fly balls in the outfield. If the ball gets into the line of sight of my lasik eye, it's still a little blurry, but getting better. Hitting is no problem at all. I definitely would recommend it. Good luck.

Hi Nancy....we use the Ultra II's here in San Diego in the 55+ senior leagues that play almost every week day morning. Most of us who play in these leagues are on tournament teams as well and enjoy being able to get some at bats between tournaments with our U2's.
