To add to this:
Our league is not a "Competitive" league. This is to have fun, not kill ourselves worrying how many home runs we can get.

We had another meeting earlier this month. 30 showed up in the auditorium for it.
We expect to field 3 teams from Hartland, 1 or 2 from Fenton, Another out of Milford, and 1 or 2 from Brighton and Howell. Things are coming together.
The bat issue has been resolved. ASA and USSSA bats are allowed. No senior bats. If it's stamped, it's good to go. Doesn't matter what year.
We have insurance, and our fields will be at Tags Sports complex in Hartland. Not sure what fields will be used for the other teams.

Pat Martin will be our umpire facilitator. Great guy.
Practices start April 9 at Tags. 10am.
Season begins May 7 or 14.
The teams are Co-Ed.
$25 application fee to cover all costs. Payable at first practice.

Sign up at the Hartland Senior Center on M-59, just west of Old US-23 at the Hartland Education Support Building.

We haven't decided what bats we will be using, yet. A league meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16ish and it will be discussed.
I did say earlier that if a bat isn't ASA.......... That isn't my true feeling. It was a miss-statement.
Utrip bats would be OK with me in order to help keep costs down. I have a Miken DVS1 and don't want to lose the use of it. I also have an Easton Synergy for ASA.
I certainly don't want senior bats (no warranty).
Looks like the ball issue won't be decided until November.

My Wife and I know John and Audrey Terry very well. I call her my Mommy, she calls me her Son. We all use the weight room at the Hartland Senior Center together. Wonderful people, and John does a great job of Umpiring.

During our team meeting today, I lobbied to ban the use of SBs, due to safety, and performance issues. The team agreed with me. We now have to take it to Northville, Novi, Howell, etc. to get their input on it. I will continue to lobby against them. If a bat is not ASA, we don't want it used.

We are still hashing out what rules we will be following. A team meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) morning 10am at the field, and a league meeting next month. This is all new for us, and we are taking copious notes.

The Kensington Valley Senior Softball League is brand new in Livingston, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw Counties, Michigan.

This all started at the Hartland Senior Center with a meeting in Spring 2011 to see how much interest there might be in starting a senior team. We had more than 30 show up, and started practicing the next week. Hartland practices at Tags softball fields, next to Striking Lanes on Old US-23, just south of M-59, Mon. and Wed. at 10am.
The Hartland Senior Center is located on M-59, just west of Old US-23, located in the west end of the Hartland Schools Educational Support building (Old High school)

We've had 20 that have been fairly regular at the practices, and a few times we had enough to get a game underway. Had several pick-up games with Waterford, Novi, Northville, and White Lake.

We are learning the rules, and having a great time.
The Hartland website is at http://gerrymostowy.com/hartland-senior-softball.htm

We have been in meetings with Brighton, Howell, Pinckney, Northville, Novi, and several other communities to set the rules, etc.

If you have any interest in joining, you can get in contact with us at the already mentioned website. There is a sign up page there.
