| March 31, 2008 arizonaken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Medical Emergency When Out Of Town Just returned from Mesquite, Nevada and the 2008 Spring Fling Senior Softball Tournament. On the first day in the 60\'s division a medical emergency came about during the game. The player involved needed emergency medical attention and he was unable to give any medical information. He was unconscious, heart attack. It was very serious. So the moral of this story is if you travel to tournaments with out your spouse it would be a good idea to have in your equipment bag a medical history; blood type, meds that you are taking and any meds you are allergic to, and phone numbers of contacts. Another issue is that there was no deliberator at the field and it took a long time for the ems to arrive. |

This will be just for the summer. This is when we experiment with new rules. So if there are any senior leagues out there using the screen I need to know the ground rules for the screen. Ya know what happens if a batted ball hits the screen; what about a throw from the outfield to home plate to retire a runner. If the thrown ball hits the screen what is the ruling??? As an outfielder it made playing a short fly or a hard hit line drive a challenge. One thing for sure all the bounces were true. I thought the umpiring was great. TD did a great job. When a fair batted ball strikes the person, attached equipment, or clothing of an umpire or a runner. 6. Touches a runner in contact with a base: EFFECT: The runner is not out. The ball is live or dead depending on the position of the fielder closest to the base. In slow pitch the defensive player is usually behind the base. Therefore the ball is dead, the batter is awarded 1s base and runners that are forced to advance will be awarded one base. |

I had a chance to meet Dave at the field what a great addition to Senior Softball USA. We met so many senior softball players from other states and I hope developed some new friendships. Congratulations to Budweiser for their win and to the Indy 65, who beat us twice, for their second place win. Senior Softball USA you have out done yourself s what a well organized tournament. |

Take Note. 11/6/2006 OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, — The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA), the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, today announced that under a resolution adopted by the ASA Board of Directors, bats submitted by manufacturers that were previously allowed a 2 mph variance in the ASA’s test standards are no longer authorized for use in ASA Championship Play effective January 1, 2008. Commonly referred to by players and coaches as “grandfathered” bats, these bats were allowed a 2 mph testing variance under the terms of an agreement the bat manufacturers and ASA negotiated in the fall of 2003. These terms will no longer be in effect on January 1, 2008 thus making these bats illegal for use in ASA Championship Play. We are out here in Arizona and belong to the Sun Cities Senior Softball League. During the big season, October thru April we will have 26 teams in two divisions. 13 teams in each division. The "A" division are the younger, better players. The "B" division is for the older players. The fields we play on belong to our senior communities. So we are the only one who play on them. The fences are 250 and 265 respectivley. We allow only ASA approved bats. No U2s are allowed. Our ages run from 55 to the 80's. We don't have enough players in the age groups to have 55+ or 65+ teams. So on a team you could have 55 and 75 yr olds. Out of the 152 players in the "A" division approximately 40 are tournament caliber players. So the U2 could present a problem so that is why we stick the ASA approved bats only. Ken Skinner |
