| Aug. 4, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Throwing Boston, you mention keeping the threads positive. I decided to stop posting after realizing how tempting it is to be drawn into unproductive exchanges. I will continue to limit my posts after seeing how easily some are drawn onto petty ego games. If a very few habitual posters could learn, even at their advanced age, to practice more positive and healthy attitudes this board could be even better. It takes courage to change negative behavior, but it's worth it and truly warrants admiration. It will be interesting to see if habitual posters can show the character to limit the b.s. |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: appreciation to the message board members Having seen nasty and distasteful message board posts on other boards it's been overall a relief to see the positive and helpful tone here. People posting don't need to be subjected to one upmanship games unless they ask for it. Even less bright, less experienced less skilled have a right to their views respected, though everyone doesn't need agree. I don't want to tell anyone what to do. I do think it would serve well to be mindful of the purpose of ones posts. This being said, it's time for me to make my last post for a good while, this stuff can become addictive on some level, which can cause one to get drawn into less than productive behavior. Habits can control behavior unless we control habits. Thanks for the good info shared. I hope my posts have been mostly constructive, which has been my intent. Good luck. |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: pitcher deception Sounds like you understand the concept of umpires not always strictly enforcing rules and how it can affect rule interpretations. Thanks for the info. |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Strike or No Pitch Some umpires allow batters to step out even though it's not strick to the rules. Probably, as game management, just to keep good relations, and games running smoothly . With one umpire games it can help. Also, a batter can claim a distraction, such as dust getting the eyes, allowing the batter to step out without calling for time. When umpires deviate from rules, for better or worse, it sets up past practice issues for rule interpretations. It's possibly best to give people the benefit of doubt when possible to promote better discussion, without concerns of being jumped. |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: pitcher deception This is more a case of double or triple pumping with the ball. The quick pitch was also involved, along with stepping in different directions before releasing the pitch. Managers acted lame about the issue and I want to be well prepared in the future. |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: pitcher deception Question: Rules concerning pitcher starting motion with ball forward and then bringing it back before starting forward to release the ball. Had pitcher do it several times in local tournament. Is this commonly allowed. I was filling in for a day and didn't pursue it when the managers didn't protest. What are others experience with this being allowed. What are the rules concerning this sort of thing. I have seen similar deception not allowed. Thanks |
| July 23, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Same problem. On old web I stopped getting the video on my mobile PDA, but got it on my lap top. Then I got the new video, on New web site, on my mobile. Now can't get it. To B-DUB Very sorry for your pain. |
| July 22, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update The hollow bats use a rod in the handle to supply bat weight someone said on this site. Perhaps less weight in the handle is what allows the solid core bat to work weight wise. Just a conjecture. It would be nice if we did have more info on the bat design. |
| July 22, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Reminder, Google Maps can be years old, since last update. The end of that complex looks like it could be fairly large. Anyway, many people are not happy with this saga. Hopefully, Steve and his crew are not being played by someone benefiting by stringing this thing along. I have no doubt these are mostly good people just struggling to get this right. I expect to be swinging the bat by the end of August, like Steve last said. If the date changes, I would expect an update. |
| July 20, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Surf88 probably thought no need to give a factory address because it was on the new web site. He indicated he wanted to help limit what he thought was unfair treatment. He also made clear as a rep for another bat company he should say nothing else. He seems to understand how upset so many are over the history of this bat. I share much of the frustration, having waited for over a year now before buying a needed new senior bat. One promised release date after another missed. The company may benefit from the continuing attention. Just give us acurate updates and facts. If you don't know for sure about something, GSC, just say so. It's no sin to not know. An apology might help when release dates are missed, instead of just saying be patient. Most people don't like being treated like over anxious children. Just release the bat when promised. We are prospective customers, nothing else really. |
| July 20, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update The factory being on the East coast and the owner apparently on the West coast likely contributes to inaccurate projections. The last communicated release date was late August. If other than first hand factory supervision is involved misinformation is no surprise. At this point this is like a horse race. I will place a bet on these guys. I WON'T bet on a delivery date of August though. |
| July 20, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update If anyone wants the factory address just go to the GSC web site. Its listed clearly with street address, city, and state. There are also introductions for Steve and a few of his reps. We can be critical but we can also be fair. I believe these are good people from their messages. |
| July 19, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Most everyone is all for the GSC. Unfortunately there have been stated availability dates the have repeatedly come and gone with the present management. If credibility is questioned, there has been cause. Unfortunately some have vented frustrations into insulating comments. Most of us understand business complications. Clear honest communication is all that most request. Its only a bat but evidently there is great interest, which doesn't make us dumb. This is great promotion overall, keeping attention on a coming product. When the product comes thru we who break bats often will be happy if the bat is reasonably priced. If the bat has a better sweet spot more will be happy. I don't personally think GOD needs a sport company, but nothing wrong with giving respect to ones faith. Perhaps we are all more than reason alone would suggest. |
| July 19, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: PLAYER RELEASE Andy, I give you credit for not playing the last word, one up game. You state your experience and share a view and let it stand. Having seen the good and bad of tournament play, I believe there is room for improvement. Tournaments are great fun and challenge. Maybe from sharing our views we can identify problems and improve the experience. Too many good players have quit playing because of unresolved issues. Too often players just wanting to play have to endure power trips which leave few options. Most of us don't get paid to play. In essence we are just a bunch of guys wanting to play and share a game reminding us of our youth. Lets keep trying too look critically at issues and find solutions. Bottom line, without respect nothing works. We are men who aren't going to put up with crap just to play a game. |
| July 18, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Chip, Appreciated your reply It is obvious your company has made some mistakes. I believe though you are all making an earnest effort. Most of the people here will appreciate more Info when you can make it available People have a right to their views and you have to expect some flack based on the total story here. Your web site has stepped up and given personal backgrounds. Thats a big step toward credibility, as more steps are taken you will likely see rapid support. I will contact you or the nearest representative to put my name on your notification list. Again, good luck. |
| July 18, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Chip, Thanks for your replies. Setting the bad history aside. Can you answer some practical questions. When and how will your company announce it is taking new orders. What is the expected price range. When and how can the bat be demonstrated. Has the bat been approved for senior play yet. Answering these questions will help renew credibility here. I respect your efforts and faith. Hopefully others will also, if you can honestly and simply give your best efforts to answer it will be appreciated. Good luck to you and all involved. |
| July 16, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Gods Sports Company, my mistake again. |
| July 16, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update The the GSC stands for Good Sports Company. My mistake, it appears, to have shared this information. I get the venting, probably deserved, but I don't want to join the disrespect. My apologies. |
| July 16, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Bats Discussion: gsc bat latest web site update Maybe still hope for the gsc senior bat. New site update says bat coming soon. And the gsc does now mean Gods Bat Company. I may bite again and wait another month. |
| July 15, 2012 CAPT D5 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: PLAYER RELEASE Stick 8, I understand what you are saying, having managed and coached for years. I wouldn't attempt to judge past situations I wasn't involved in, I tend to respect those more directly involved. I would though wonder if the disgruntled players were pressured into regrettable agreements. Players often go along with things just to play. The good managers don't take advantage and pressure players. I think keeping players happy has a role. Without knowing everything I tend to give players the benefit of doubt, realizing the power is usually on the managers side. So many players being unhappy seems is a factor. I believe in working as a team and for the team, but if someone doesn't want to be on the team, let them go. This is a game meant for fun, I believe. Again, I respect your view, and know different things work in an imperfect world. I think there is definitely merit to strong leadership. We just have to be careful of abuse. I am not offering judgement here, just a point of view, to consider. Good luck. |
