what a surprise the big boys didn't participate in the HR contest...it is a lot easier to brag about how you are THEE best power hitter in the 50's than go out and prove it......it's like the bully in class, everyone backs down from him because he puffs out his chest but as soon as he is confronted, he turns tail and runs away....let the excuses begin

back to original topic...we play our senior leagues with utrip bats and 44 core balls......it is "regular" softball like back in the "old" days.....the tournaments and leagues that use senior bats art creating all the "super ball off a tennis racket" effect.....we use senior bats in tournaments only and end of season BP and fun games.....

Discussion: SENIOR BATS

I haven't seen "good" bats go half price, in fact the better the bat, the MORE expensive it will be later...case in point, Worth original senior bat...I got mine for 149 when it was under the radar and now it is 229 because it is a better performing bat...I would say if the bat is equal or lesser than the newer model, then it may be lower but if it is a dud, it is probably taking up shelf space and they are just getting rid of them....you get what you pay for in these instances

Discussion: Bat Weights & Bat Doughnuts

I don't come on here to argue with people...I stated what worked for me.....for some people it helps, others it does not...I have been playing softball for 37 years, I have tried many things over the years, heavy bat seems to work for me....not everyone, but it works for me..... some people use 30 ounce bats, some use 26, some use 2 piece , some use one piece, some people wear high tops, some wear turf shoes...if the game was the same for everyone, there would only be one bat, one shoe and one glove out there......it's just an opinion but not everything fits into the same mold

weighted bat works for me....I can see if you use one for off season or something but swinging a weighted bat before going up to the plate INCREASES bat speed because your bat is lighter to your feel.....each to their own I say...it loosens muscles, increases flexibility and makes the bat feel easier to swing......

wood bats and cork balls ...lets go back to basics

NOT!!!!!...we use U-Trip bats in our senior league and guys who can hit them out do hit them out....as soon as we go to Sr. bats in the fall league, the balls start flying out of the park.....sure the bats make a huge difference but it IS fun.....we use Sr. bats in tourneys 4-6 times a year and that is fine for us

Discussion: best article ever on Physics of softball bats

Guys, I came across this a few days ago and it is fantastic....even though some of the info is from the early 2000's, the technology is there and I spent a good part of sunday reading it....covers everything you wanted to know about bats and physics and sweet spots and pivot points and it was really eye opening.....there are numerous topics from rolled bats, to cheater bats and the physics etc (not endorsed here or on the site) just the facts......enjoy

Discussion: Nasty rattle in Reebok Melee

Ok, I think I described it wrong....this is how I hear it...I grab the barrel and tap the handle knob on the ground....it sounds like a really bad sounding tuning fork......rattling, noisy and it sounds "broken" inside...the bat still hits but the way it sounds, it feel like it is going to explode even though it is very new

This is more than glue loosening....this sounds like a can with muffled coins in it.....is there a rod in the handle like the old mikens had

has anyone else had this happen??? I have a Reebok Melee that has a nasty rattling in the knob end of the bat when I tap it on the ground......obviously there is something loose but how can it be fixed....the bat is relatively new in regards to usage because I can only use it in tournies.....is it fixable????

Discussion: New Worth Legit 2 Piece Senior 1st test results.....

as of this time, I would not yet put it in the category of a Reebok Melee BUT, this bat is really crushing the ball...if the Melee was an A+ then the Worth is an A-.....the ball jumps off the bat but it takes a long time and a lot of live hits at BP to break it in....once it breaks in, you will know....you have to use it on a fenced field though because some of the hits are very deceiving....a line drive turns into a 310 foot homer and you say, "That went out?"....if you are on an open field you wont get the perception of distance as well....just get one on the cheap and keep using it...give it time and you will enjoy it

Discussion: ISSA Virginia Beach tourney rained out.......who got screwed????

I had contact with a director in the Syracuse area and how it is when he runs a tourney....a lot of the parks demand a deposit for the fields which is usually non refunded rain or shine...I get that part....BUT, if the fields cost so much to rent plus workers trying to get fields ready, does it come to the amount of $225 per team????

Sure, they get a "refund" for the next tourney but still have to add another $100 entry fee and travel expenses for all the players

as for shirts and hats and plaques, THAT is a huge mistake getting stuff dated etc....and if the stuff was paid for why wasn't the merchandise given out to the teams that showed up...who wants a Oct 2013 shirt or hat given to them in April 2014????

anyway, this is truly a learning experience for everyone involved.....I believe the director is somehow getting all our money though because we will not be going back in April...and who knows, maybe not in Oct 2014 either...it was a great tourney last year but this year was forgettable in all aspects.....

I believe the Director should reconsider his initial decision and refund at least 75% of the entry fees CASH to all teams ...let the teams decide if they want a 3 day tourney in Manassas next year and go from there....if the Park wants to charge him for fields we never used, then maybe another venue should be chosen next year....to be paid for services not rendered just doesn't go over too well in today's world..I could see if the teams backed out and the field lost 3 or 4 days to not having any business but NOBODY used the fields........who made out there????

Discussion: ISSA Virginia Beach tourney rained out.......who got screwed????

Paco...I should have had you as my weatherman...we had a guy in Va Beach down there on Weds and all the channels said the chance of rain (20-30% showers) lessened as the weekend approached....we had to travel on Thursday and trusted all weather guys (big mistake) so our hands were tied.......I guess the big question is, what did the director do with $225 per team x 50 teams......and at least he should have distributed t shirts, hats or anything that said "Virginia Beach 2013" on it.......kind of makes you wonder how much the actual tourney even costs if they allot that much per team to cover non playing expenses....can any directors give us players a summary of tournament costs just to enlighten us......we probably wont go back there if we risk the chance of paying for something and getting nothing in return in the case of a tourney canceled.....really a sad situation

Discussion: ISSA Virginia Beach tourney rained out.......who got screwed????

So our team travels 9 1/2 hours from Syracuse NY to play in the ISSA winter national tourney in Virginia beach....it literally misted or rained from the Thursday we got there until the Saturday morning that the Directors sent us back home....we did not even take the equipment out of our bags....I rented a car for 100 bucks, paid 150 for a hotel room, 175 dollars for food and dining, $150 for gas and probably another $100 at the Mall while we waited for the rain to stop on Friday....no big deal, rain happens, weather cancels things...oh well, we enjoyed it while we could BUT!!!!!!!...we get home and find out the Tourney was only giving back $300 of our $525 entry fee because they had to cover the costs of t shirts, plaques, trophies, hats etc.......excuse me but we didn't even get a friggin hat or t shirt or a "participation plaque" and WE have to pay...That is total Bull Shirt on their part.....if I wanted any of those things, I would go to my local outlet mall and get any shirt or hat I wanted etc......if these tourneys "build in" dollar amounts for these expenses, then I don't want to get any of those things...I want to play ball, have some fun, travel with friends and that's it........but the ultimate slap in the face is when you get back home from driving almost 10 hours and you get a phone call or an email that says we owe money for the tournament we never played to cover the difference between sponsor donation and the rest.....TOTAL BS

Discussion: sick players at Sunset Park

I play with a guy who traveled to Vegas and he got sick at Sunset park....he drank dugout water and was the only guy who did and the only guy who got sick...by the 7th inning he said his stomach hurt so badly he was hunched over in severe pain.....the bathrooms were 100's of yards from the fields too...it was not a good combination
