Discussion: ISSA Virginia Beach tourney rained out.......who got screwed????

So our team travels 9 1/2 hours from Syracuse NY to play in the ISSA winter national tourney in Virginia beach....it literally misted or rained from the Thursday we got there until the Saturday morning that the Directors sent us back home....we did not even take the equipment out of our bags....I rented a car for 100 bucks, paid 150 for a hotel room, 175 dollars for food and dining, $150 for gas and probably another $100 at the Mall while we waited for the rain to stop on Friday....no big deal, rain happens, weather cancels things...oh well, we enjoyed it while we could BUT!!!!!!!...we get home and find out the Tourney was only giving back $300 of our $525 entry fee because they had to cover the costs of t shirts, plaques, trophies, hats etc.......excuse me but we didn't even get a friggin hat or t shirt or a "participation plaque" and WE have to pay...That is total Bull Shirt on their part.....if I wanted any of those things, I would go to my local outlet mall and get any shirt or hat I wanted etc......if these tourneys "build in" dollar amounts for these expenses, then I don't want to get any of those things...I want to play ball, have some fun, travel with friends and that's it........but the ultimate slap in the face is when you get back home from driving almost 10 hours and you get a phone call or an email that says we owe money for the tournament we never played to cover the difference between sponsor donation and the rest.....TOTAL BS

Discussion: sick players at Sunset Park

I play with a guy who traveled to Vegas and he got sick at Sunset park....he drank dugout water and was the only guy who did and the only guy who got sick...by the 7th inning he said his stomach hurt so badly he was hunched over in severe pain.....the bathrooms were 100's of yards from the fields too...it was not a good combination

on a side bar...why are any 40 year olds playing senior softball......when I was 40 a few short years ago, I was playing against 20 somethings all the time and representing my age...we played in an over 39 league and used u-trip bats etc.....maybe I have it wrong

Discussion: Las Vegas Fields and Umpires

I agree with Curt from KY....I wonder if there is a standard for hosting tournaments all over the country for SSUSA...I didn't go to Vegas but teams from my area did and most of the complaints were similar...some were field conditions, some were no orange base, some were no bathrooms, no concessions, sun right behind the pitcher, sun right behind the batter, umpires unfamiliar with senior rules and changed schedules after making reservations, accomondations etc......I think these issues should be discussed in NC convention without being able to attend....I am sure there are some standards but no matter what they are, it seems like the same complaints arise......I think the major issues are player safety and taking care of the players and their fans.....just about all of the above mentioned seem to fall under that umbrella...I will not attend the SSUSA convention in December but I think if a copy of this post is somehow brought to the attention of EVERY tournament director and SSUSA official, a lot of issues will be resolved.....set a standard and enforce it...pre tourney inspections will verify conditions and accommondations etc.....nothing worse than spending hundreds and thousands of dollars and playing in sub par facilities.....thanks

Discussion: New Worth Legit 2 Piece Senior 1st test results.....

OK...so I have about 200 swings on my sr. worth 2 piece and it has come alive!!!!!....I would compare it to the Reebok that I have .....the ball is really jumping off the bat with line drives and fly balls...LONG fly balls...if you have the patience to work in the bat and I mean work it by lots of BP, then you will be happy....I have not seen any spider cracks or webbing or hairlines so I think it might be more durable than a lot of the sr. bats.....I guess Worth doesn't get the love of a lot of people but give it a chance.....you can get them pretty reasonable online and you can get that under the radar, sleeper bat for a great price.....now I have to decide which bat to use in the upcoming tourney....decisions decisions..reebok...worth....reebok....worth

sounds like the tourney is more interested in getting big numbers in participants and little interest in taking care of ALL the participants and their fans....I have been to tournaments where there is one or two porta potties and no concessions....real downer for players and fans.....it should be a mandatory requirement that all facilities have a standard of playability.....double bags at first, lined fields, umpires familiar with senior rules, concessions within 150- 200 feet of fields and restroom facilities that are serviced regularly....I don't want to spends hundreds of dollars to travel and be treated poorly and the same goes for our team's fans.....THAT should be a top priority and not the number of teams that show up so you can boast about how many teams came to your tournament......it seems pretty simple especially when the dates are known well in advance.....how about it ssusa......lets see some written down standards and make sure they are enforced before these tourneys are approved

we are starting a fall league at Santaro Park very soon on Mondays...If you go to the fields on that night, I am sure one of the teams could use an extra player...games are at 6pm...also like previous poster said, there is a tourney in Syracuse this weekend at Hopkins Road park starting at 9 am Friday....there are at least 4 teams with Syracuse connections there

Discussion: Took one off the chest pitching BP

great input guys...the screen is the best...we used one for BP indoor sessions ...lost count of how many times it got hit and also from a batter's perspective, it is nice to experiment and go with all sides of the field to hit.....chest still feels it one week later and I was really lucky

Discussion: Took one off the chest pitching BP

I usually pitch BP for our team and get a few guys hit a few through the middle...luckily I either field them or get out of the way but Monday night was the exception....we were running late and we tried to get a quick BP session in...5 balls and get out...I was scrambling getting balls while pitching and not really too worried that a guy might hit middle BUT...as I pitched the ball, I took a step to the right barely to get a ball without really fielding my position and before I knew it, the ball was nailing me in the left side of my chest....it felt like a sledgehammer hit me...I didn't go down but I went back and walked it off and promptly went to bench for my ice packs....it hurt but I still played outfield...later that night it still hurt and the next morning the same...I am sure I will have a massive bruise but really I was lucky...a few inches to the right and I have a broken sternum...a few inches up, I have a busted mouth or broken throat...I was mostly concerned that my heart would beat irregularly but I was ok in that regard.....it really opened my eyes to pitching and the dangers associated with it...it was only BP with less than full swings and old balls.....and U-Trip bats in our senior league...under the right conditions, this could have been catastrophic...here is a link to a picture....nice bulls eye ring and bruising starting to appear only 2 hours after the hit....copy and paste this link....

Discussion: New Worth Legit 2 Piece Senior 1st test results.....

Being a worth guy for the past 8-10 bats I have used, this 2 piece sounds very similar to my Jeff Hall Mutant that I still have (for sale if you want it...lol)it had a .5 ounce end load and the sweet spot although very sweet, it was relatively small compared to my 454 Legit one piece that I use in U trip (yellow one from alan BTW)today.....I am sure they worked out the issue with telescoping of the bats etc but performance I believe will probably be similar with maybe a bit more pop because the sr. bats are a little thin walled to begin.....I hope worth hit a homerun with the bat but I would like to hear people who have used a Mutant side by side with the 2 piece Legit and compare notes....That would be a true test comparison

i have internet explorer and besides my bank account and ebay account, this site is the ONLY site where you have to put in your user name AND password every time you leave the board....i can see the security for banks and ebay accounts but even my user name still is present when i go to them...I know it seems like a small thing to some people but with all the technology available, you would think a site like a senior softball webpage would be a little bit more user friendly....just saying

Discussion: The New Combat Company

as a Bauer hockey stick user, if the same quality of their sticks is used in their bats, then there should be good success...one note though, Combat has infiltrated the hockey stick market already and maybe this is Bauer's way of getting their hands on their hockey stick technology....Bauer at one point was joined with Nike and was known as Nike/Bauer in the hockey world...Nike didn't do so well and it is back to Bauer again....many sports companies consolidate and we have seen it over the years with Wilson /demarini....worth/miken......so this joining just goes with the past of other sports companies.....look up tileist/footjoy/ adidas someday....they are all under the acushnet umbrella company...seemingly 3 separate brands going head to head but owned by the same company.......stay tuned combat fans
