Discussion: What did you do in your last at bat?

we were in a tourney at Viginia beach....we were getting killed and it was the 5th inning...the other team "let" us hit as a courtesy....I figured it was my last at bat in a beautiful city and what the heck.....i had aleady ripped two doubles down the third base line and was feeling good...the guy before me tried yanking one out and topped it for a single...I figured it was my turn and took my swing...the pitcher was a line drive, flat ball pitcher so i had to really dip my back shoulder and hit a laser over left field fence....it was our fifth run of the inning so THAT was the last at bat of the tourney for us and I felt the weekend ended with a bang...so it wasn't a total loss and gave us something to talk about

Discussion: Update from USSSA National Convention

we dont play Utrip senior softball (yet) but I think the net rule should be revised.....not an out but a strike and an out after second time....anyone can miss-hit a ball and hit the net but if you do it 2 times in an at bat, then THAT is the penalty of hitting low....we did just fine in our senior league with u trip bats....sure, the balls didnt go out like the senior bats but then it brought the game back to the players and no more "excuse me" HR's like the senior bats produce now...i have both bats and the senior bats are insane compared to U trip bats

Discussion: What does it take to be a Major player?

I don't think it is being a "major" player that is important but rather being a "major" team......by this I mean, having a good hitting team that can produce singles but also get HR's when needed.....our team is a good AAA team and I think i could play on a "major" team but the other players around me would have to step up for this to happen so we could compete on that level....right now, we are a AAA team because we lack consistent hitting throughout the lineup and dont get runs every inning...that is a recipe for losses and not moving up.....so back to the original post, I think a major player is a good AAA player who can compliment a team and fill in and produce to keep the team moving along....if you put one "major" player on a AAA team, you will see how his contributions will lessen because the others around him cant compliment his abilities....it is a team thing more than an individual thing....major teams just have a lot more great AAA players....bkb555

Discussion: Is it too much to expect ice water in the dugout?

really, you have to ask this question????...playing softball for 30-40 years and you have to have somebody else supply ice and etc????? reminds me of guys on my hockey team who don't bring a water bottle to the bench.....been playing hockey for 30 years and all of a sudden, you realize you get thirsty while playing?????how about filling a cooler of ice and bringing it to the park...not too much to ask of players or a team manager...it is NOT the facility's responsibility

Discussion: NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

good tourney, sharkey...now we really have to do something about getting the county back to maintaining the fields...Hopkins Road park used to be the best fields around but since the park has been sub-contracted to a private company, the conditions have gone down terribly..i personally had a ball bounce 10 feet over my head in the outfield on a line drive while another outfielder had the same thing happen to him...if we want as many teams to come to syracuse, we want the conditions to be a reason why they come here.....otherwise, it was a great time and our team, Custom Logo of Syracuse thanks you for all your hard work and organization....thanks, brian bkb555

OK OK OK.....swing, so you want ogt know how far it crushes the competition????...we just finished the northeast senior tourney in Syracuse and we had guys who hit balls out of the park who never SNIFFED the warning track before.......I told you we broke out the bat right out of the wrapper a week ago and my first swing off the END of the bat went out of the 300 foot fence...the fences in the tourney we just played were 315 to 320 qnd they were wayyy over that mark....I kept saying to the guys, these bats remind me of the very first Ultras (which I used once and put down because it was so sick)...I really would not doubtr if this bat makes it into next season...sorry guys but this thing is hot hot hot...maybe too hot as I stated earlier.....guys will be snatching them up left and right but for how long, who is too say..so Swing to answer your question......I would say 30-40 extra feet is not an understatement for distance and real power hitters will get more

Discussion: Hypocrisy

if everybody used a U-trip bat, it could be just as dangerous....but this is what the players want...fast bats, fast balls....sure there is money involved but if we had a choice of wood or composite, i think the majority would use the composites....i am sure there are wood bat leagues around but I wouldnt play in it....safety is a concern no matter what association bat you use...they ALL come at you quickly

we have a black centanarian and an ambush and there is NO comparison..the ambush destroys the cent by a long shot......they may look , feel, swing the same but distance is the ultimate yard stick...no contest.....as for the poster with 700+ swings on the bat, you seem to have a dud,or the other bats are really really hot and make the ambush seem "normal"....I would try a different one and see if there is a difference

I hit the Ambush side by side with my Melee and my Utrip 454 and it is not even close...this bat was just brought out today and the ball was flying....I only hope it doesnt fly TOO good (ala original Ultra)......the sweet spot IS bigger no doubt about it and the pop is incredible......should be a very popular bat in the next few tourneys that I play

Discussion: Worth 454

i was wondering the same thing too because I do have a USSSA 454 legit and it is a very very good bat...however when i researched buying a senior bat, the reebok Melle was the bat of choice at the time until the ambush came out.....I think the worth will probably be more durable but I dont know if it will match performance of the other senior bats...but how much could it be????? 5 feet????? 15 feet????,,,ask Alan Tri18...he is really good at giving accurate reviews of alot of bats

FANTASTIC pics....awesome action and emotions of the game...what happened to the guy who slid into 3b and was carted off on stretcher....looked like a shoulder or elbow.....WHAT is up with all this sliding tooo!!!!!......I havent slid into a base in 15 years...takes too long to heal...LOL...maybe going down on the ground for a fly ball but THAT is all...that dirt stuff is hard and takes skin all the time...thanks for the time and effort to get full action of the game...now if you could come to Syracuse on Sept7-10 to take some of the same photos..that would be great

Discussion: Ambush Review

nothing wrong with wanting to take advantage of technology...we use improved drivers and irons in golf, better bowling balls, better hockey stick and every other sport allows these advances...sure, it seems like every bat that comes along is the latest greatest bat ever made but that is marketing and just trying to squeeze a extra something out of our aging bodies...sometimes just a change of equipment gives us the mental boost to try harder or just keep playing...i know some day my melee will not seem to hit "like it used to" and I will move on to the next best thing but until that day comes, why not embrace technology and feel like a 20 something immortal that we thought we were.....we have no problem with new cars coming out every year, they all drive to where we have to go but maybe just maybe, this car will get us there a little bit better,,,THAT is what new bats are all about....just roll with the changes...i finally did and love it

Discussion: Throwing

best way to build arm strength is to use it....if you had it when you were younger, it is just a matter of maintaining....if you didn't have it when you were younger, you will be a cather or firstbasemean the rest of your life..or worse, an underhand pitcher......you won't have to worry about throwing out your arm, but the bullets that come back through the middle are your biggest concerns...lol...yikes

Discussion: What makes it a "Senior" bat???

I relied on the reviews of Alan (tri18) when I got my U-trip Worth legit and my Senior reebok Melee both balanced versions.....he could have told me any bat was this or that but I went on his comments on testing and his reviews were extremely accurate...I am sure all the bat suppliers here sell good stuff but when you have actual testing and verifications on performance, you can't beat that ....as to the original poster, I wouldn't go so far as to say the ball flies 40 feet farther etc, but the ball does shoot off the barrel and it feels REALLY sweet when you get it.....if you are interested in a bat just ask /email/or call the bat suppliers on the site.....word of mouth is strong and we have enough "bat testers" out there who can vouch for what works for them...just research before you buy or ask a fellow team member if you can try a few swings with his bat...then go buy your own...lol

Discussion: Strike or No Pitch

my understanding is....If the batter isn't in the box, then there can't be a strike...that being said, I suppose the umpire has to grant a timeout to the batter first but as a courtesy, the pitcher usually doesn't pitch the ball unless the guy is in the box......I suppose a smart/veteran pitcher might just throw a "practice" pitch to see what the ump might say BUT , the bottom line is, the guy was irate over a ball/strike call and made the ump look bad....it is mat ball for god's sake...it hits the mat or it doesn't....pretty simple concept here...unless the ball takes 10 seconds to come down, there isn't much of a ceiling so JUST BE READY to hit the ball.....if it hits the mat, it is a strike...batter, man up...it's not like you start with a ball and strike like u-trip...you have 3 THREE strikes to look at coming in at 6 miles an hour (maybe more) stop arguing and get in the box...oh yeah one other thing, How many fields have clearly outlined batter boxes too?????

Discussion: WHO GETS THE BALL??

as an outfielder, I would get the ball IF I was going OUT to my position...no big deal here....it is much easier for the team that just hit, to go out and get the ball as they field their defensive position......not poor sportsmanship to not go get the ball from the team that drew in fielders

Discussion: USSSA bats???

peedee....a few things you must consider when buying either of these bats mentioned above...the USSSA bats will usually have a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer while many of the senior bats have no warranty..of course there are some exceptions to the later but generally speaking, most senior bats have no warranty...I go with the balanced versions now for most bats...when i was younger I liked the end loaded to really snap the bat around and generate a bit more power and distance...now i go for just hitting the ball hard and let the bat do the rest without all that "extra" effort needed to swing that 1/2 ounce in the end of the bat a little faster.....I swing the Worth 454 Legit and the reebok melee balanced (soon arriving)...the legit hits it hard and far and has the 1 year warranty.....it is more expensive but the same price as most high end bats...I have swung the end loaded melee from another guy and it hits really nice too......so now you have so much more to digest and THAT is only 2 bats to decide from...throw in eastons, demarini, mikens, worths and then you REALLY have some choices..i personally got my bats from tri18 and he is a good man.....but that is my experience.....call him or email him like I did to get more info or any other guy and listen to what he has to offer...good luck
