Discussion: THE RATINGS GAME

An incredibly difficult job at best. However, some things sure seem weard and would appear to have a paper trail attached to them.

Look at the ratings: Go to THARALDSON ENTERPRISES out of Las Vegas [60's]. May 2005 rated Major Plus; June 2005 rated Major and in July 2005 rated AAA. Las Vegas Elks a AAA team for the past two seasons now rated AA as of I believe June2005.

The team we defeated in the Western Nationals in Seattle in July 2005 [60's AAA], two out of three, name First American Title, one week later re-rated to AA. Our scores were 14-15; 9-8; and 25-14.

Sh-t happens and we just learn to live with it. My real concern is the connection to Washington and Las Vegas as discussed under the topic herein "How to Win a Ring."

I still feel that SSWC is the finest organization out there and will continue to play in their tournaments and support them fully, However, some of their decisions do give one reason to think.

Discussion: Ultra II Beyond 2005

To Terry Hennesy: Here is a wealth information concerning the desire of players for the continued use of the Ultra II for years to come.

I myself would like an answer to the following question:

Is the Ultra II a "dead" issue in SS-USA after 2005?

It is inconceivable that the Ultra II is coming to the end of the road in tournament play in your yery respected organization. Please hear the plea of YOUR CLIENTELE.

Discussion: 70' bases?

Gentlemen. In 2004 the Huntsman World Senior Games played the entire tournament with 70 ft bases.

And, while they listed six bats that were NOT to be used the reality was that only the Ulta II was banned. If it was okay with the competing teams the umpires didn't worry about the other 5 bats so identified.

My own observation of the effects of the 70ft bases was: 1. You played a full 7 inning game; 2. Defense was a premium up the middle re turning double plays; and the scores were much closer thereby making all games very, very competitive.

In summary: it brought back ALL the skills that make up the game of softball/baseball. Mazeroski would have loved it!

Discussion: Nationals Logjam-LVSSA-HWSG-SSUSA

Why are these three tournaments scheduled back-to-back-to-back? Does anyone really think that players/teams can compete $$$ in all three of the tournaments? Again, we the players, are the ones that get stepped on. HWSG was always a great tournament to close out the year. LVSSA and SSUSA are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Spread them out so we can enjoy them all!

Discussion: Ultra II Beyond 2005

Gentlemen: We all need to contact SS-USA by email [frand@seniorsoftball.com]regarding this issue to let TH know how important the Ultra ll is to the game. I firmly believe that he will listen and be swayed by our insistence on the continued use of THE bat. However, we need to let him know. This site has receive 4,000+ hits [Cobb & Rose] but not many have taken the time to go to the decision maker. PLEASE.

The email address for SS-USA use frand@seniorsoftball.com This is a very important matter for all of us who want the Ultra II to remain in the game into the future. Needless to say Miken would appreciate it and I have to assume SS-USA would to as it puts their organization at the top of all senior softball organizations. Gumper

Discussion: Ultra II Beyond 2005

Gentlemen: I would like to start a "grass roots" campaign to encourage all senior softball players, who are in agreement with me, to write or call Terry Hennessy telling him that you want SS-USA to continue the use of the Miken Ultra II's in all of their tournaments AFTER the year 2005. The Ultra II is why we play in SS-USA's tournaments. It is their biggest single reason they have such a good draw of teams to their tournaments. The "overlap" of the 60's division at the 2004 nationals [SS-USA vs LVSSA] is a classic example of where teams will and want to go for tournaments. Please let Terry know your feelings about this issue ASAP.
