Discussion: Major Plus - unlimited HR's

Suggestin for a quick fix which would solve problems for all concerned.

Get one high school basefield for the major plus teams to play on. Longer fences, more defense and real homeruns not the ones like anyone can hit on 300 ft fences with an ultra II.

I guarantee that all the major plus teams would love this idea. Only major plus teams and i know some local high school would let us do it. Also sell balls to the teams and let them chase their own and unlimited homeruns.

I am for anyone who still loves this game and plays at whatever level. Just don't try to hinder us from playing the game we love too.

Discussion: Rule changes - where are all the Major Plus players opinions?

Kevin,

That sounds like what i was talking about. Let the umpire control the game at the 80 minute limit. Again what is the reason for the changes?

DD,

Whoever you are? I don't know you and you don't know me. I am just another senior, 55 year old player, who really enjoys playing the game. I don't hunt or fish or play golf, l play softball. I can't help it if i can still hit and love the play at the highest level. Again there needs to be two divisions in senior softball - recreational ( for guys like you ) and competitive ( for guys who want to compete ).

There is plenty of defense in the major plus division and it is not just homeruns. I doubt very seriously that if your team was playing the finals on one field and the major plus was playing the finals on the other field that you would draw a bigger crowd at your field. Be for real man!

I am for all senior softball players. If you love the game, keep playing. Don't try to cut us up just because you were not given the talents that other players have.

Let us have our fun too. We are all just one injury away from never getting to play again.

Be a man like Einstein. I was there when he got hit in the arm. He did not cry about it, he knew that it is part of the game. Our pitcher, gary deaton, never gets mad if someone hits up the middle, it is part of the game. Wonder if your pitcher crys if someone hits one up the middle?

Be glad to meet you face to face.

Stoneman,

I don't know who to blame. I am not political, i just show up and play.

I thought the object of softball was to score as many runs as you can and keep the other team from scoring.

What is wrong with high scoring games?

All players want to score. That is why we play.

Why penalize teams from scoring alot and having some fun.

If a 55 or 60 year old man can hit a softball 320 feet then good for him. Don't penalize someone for being good.

Guys why are we being discriminated against? Most of us work harder than most to be good at the sport we love.

Why not ask the managers or sponsors of the major plus teams what they think. There aren't that many teams in this division so why couldn't that be done?

Why change the game?

Make the major plus games last an hour and a half.

Make major plus teams furnish their own balls and chase them.. SPA does this and it works for everyone.

HIt all you want or something and a single.

I would rather play 4 and single than 10 and an out.

I just can't figure out why these things have been done without some input.

I guess because they can.

Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Softball is a hitter's game! Why make changes to hinder the hitters? Hitting is why we all play this game. I have never asked any of my softball buddies to "lets go take some grounders" but I do love to go "hit some".

Senior softball is supposed to be fun. If they are going to make a change then do away with all the classes. Make 2 divisions - recreational and competitive and let combing 50 and 55 divisions.

Recreational = no homeruns and competitive = unlimited.

No more sandbagging, stand up or stand down.

I hate all the changes every year by the organizations.

Leave it alone or improve it according to what the players want.

I agree with Gary 19. Leave the game alone. I play to play not to watch. Quit changing the rules. Softball is a hitters game so leave the strike zone and the mat alone.

Stoneman, hope to see you in Las Vegas. I am playing 50 and 55 teams this year at different tournaments. Playing 4 tournaments with Horace this year.

Also i would rather hit good balls witha regular bat than socks with the ultra II. In my opinion the ultra II has changed the game in a bad way.

Just venting so have fun with it.

SPA has the right idea with good balls. The balls used this year would be good with regular bats. Also giving each team 6 balls and chase your own hr balls was also good. I gave Ridge that idea at the winter nationals last year.

Like mike said we need to find a way to let everyone play. That was the reason for this post. Major plus players like to play as much as everyone else.

Mike and Bruce, see you in Vegas.

We all know who can hit and who can't. We know who can hit hrs also. If someone is using a cheater bat let them be caught and expelled for life from senior softball. Thats right i said for Life!
Ultra II's are for those players who don't want to work at the game at the competitive level. Every player that i have talked to about this would rather hit a good ball than the ultra and a bad ball. Bad balls equal no fun. Even Bruce knows deep down that he would rather hit a good ball than a bad one with the ultra II.

Just trying to figure out how all players can get to play, because that is what it is all about getting to play.

Why can't we just play softball like we used to when we started many years ago. The worst thing that has happened to softball over the years is dividing into divisions.

I suggest in the 50 and 55 division in senior softball that we make two groups. Competitive and recreational!

Put the 50 and 55 divisions together and have rules for each group. COMPETITIVE group will have 5 hr's then singles. No ultra II's, regular bats and great balls, 47 core. Touching states and no exception players.

RECREATIONAL Division will have no hr's, over the fence will be singles. Ultra II's can be used but 44 or worse balls.

Make each team decide. No more teams playing down. Any disputed teams let the TD make the decision.

No more griping about who is in your bracket. 50 and 55 can play together. There is not much difference in the age groups. It is my experience that anyone in the major plus or major, 50 or 55 can beat anyone at any time.

More teams at every tournament.

Just a suggestion.

Discussion: ULTRA II WHY?

Most major and major plus players that i know would rather hit a good ball with a regular bat than a sock with an ultra II. You are right about Bruce. If he only hits 1 hr then you have to know the ball is bad.

Maybe we should get together as players and teams and refuse to go to tournaments that use the sock balls.

Personally I wish they would outlaw the ultra II's again. Be realistic how frustrating is it to spend to money to go to a tournament and have no fun. HItting socks are no fun, even with a ultra II.

Maybe if we could get together and say we are not coming then maybe something will happen.

Just my two cents worth.

MK,

Just for a point of info. The tournament director did not give us the option to play with Florida, Georgia players with 1 exception player. We had enough there to field a team last weekend.

We were not given that option or I assure you we would have played.

Our only mistake was that our whole roster was not received by the director or so he says. Our faxed roster had all of our players on it. The roster we filled out at the tournament was signed by the players we had there. We assumed the director had our faxed copy.

Anyway an expensive and long weekend to play one game.

That is the real story.

MK,

Thanks for the kind words about our team. Just wanted to say what a great team that you have put together. Your team put on a show this weekend. Good luck in Des Moines.

To the imposter MK poster, our team follows the rules that are currently in place. For your info Chip Sheffield could not play because of an anniversary last weekend.

Last weekend was real refreshing, no crying about bats or players just real men playing real softball.

Again MK, good luck with your team.

MK,

Wasn't it nice when years ago you just went to the tournaments and played. Making all the different divisions ruined softball. Senior softball, in my opinion, should be touching states for all, and tha means all states. I don't really care about the exemption rule, I mean it doesn't make any difference to me. I am glad to be still playing the game I love and have played for the last 30 years. I still love the competition and that is what makes the tournaments like the one this weekend something to look forward to. It is all about getting to play.
See you tomorrow.

Tater and Bruce,

Since yall seem to know all the rules and quick question for yall. If a team played in Plano in the Major Plus division are they frozen to their roster of that team? If they are how can 2 or 3 players change teams to play in the USSSA national this weekend. Would that be breaking the rules? If a team did this would they be ruled ineligible for this tournament?

Just wondering.

What is the official statement coming out of the meeting about Florida and California? Can California and Florida get any players from touching states this year in any organization?

Discussion: New Major and Major-Plus Regional Restrictions for 2005

Hey BillyMac,

You saw first hand what the rule did to our Crush team last year. It cost us 5 players who had played for the Crush for the last 3 years.

We don't want anything more than everyone else has and that is the ability to get players from touching states. Without this our team is probably doomed.

Answer this for me if anyone can. Why do this to 50 Major plus teams when there are only probably 7-8 teams in the whole country that can and would travel?

This just doesn't make since to me to penalize any team that has the players that are able and willing and want to travel 7-10 weekends a year to play the game they love.

Without the Crush team there will probably not be a major team from the south this year. If that is the way it has to be so be it.

Good luck to everyone.

Discussion: New Major and Major-Plus Regional Restrictions for 2005

Just a word from a 50 major plus player from Florida. We have in this state an organization called Half Century Softball and this is senior softball tournaments once a month all year. This has all ages and has a huge turn out for these tournaments. This is the reason for the large roster of senior players in Florida. Now that this info in known also know that there are only about 3 teams in the 50 division that will travel out of Florida to play senior softball. The Crush team has been the only major plus team from Florida for the last 3 years.

I wonder why this information is not put on the table when decisions are made. We are in danger of losing the only 50 major plus team from Florida with these rules. How does that help Senior Softball?

Also the 50 division is the smallest division in the Half Century organization. These numbers need to be looked at closely before throwing out the huge numbers of "senior players" from Florida
