Oct. 14, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Made in USA Ultra II I have alswys found the UII to be lively bat but it just didn't hold up so I went to the combat. Can anyone give me an estimate on the number of swings on ths new model Ultra before it breaks? |
Aug. 16, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What would you do I always apologized, no matter what age and I am 59 now. As a pitcher, I can almost tell if a ball is coming back at me. If it is low and away be prepared. |
July 29, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Senior Bats the reason why I like to keep senior bats is that they become the equalizer to those the have cheater bats. I remember players passing the bat and the the balls coming off that one bat like it was shot out of a cannon and the sound was so different. Now at least an honest person can complete without cheating. That being said, some still manage or at least are thought to shave senior bats. Amazing! |
July 26, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: pitcher safety That would make the game go on forever; as it did prior to senior ball many years ago. A batter would keep fouling off balls until he got one he liked. a good idea in theory, but I respectfully disagree. |
July 26, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: Website comments Discussion: hitting the middle I pitch and people sometimes hit the middle and out of courtesy most say "sorry pitch" on their way to first or back to the dugout. I usually smile and say "my sister hits harder than that". The game is fun and I donot know of anyone trying to hurt anyone. The middle is part of the game. Common courtesy is each person's own decision. Also, if one has 2 strikes and the pitch is low and away - guess what? Be prepared. |
July 25, 2011 Robo2 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: crabtown tournament It was a great tournament. The umpires were very good and so was the competition. |
Aug. 9, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Congradulations Lenny May Lenny, you did a great job and were a key person in securing a victory over some excellant teams. |
July 30, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Just curious.... I enjoy hitting HRs but the name of the game is WIN. However, I don't understand the limit issue. If all levels were unlimited, then the teams with a lot of power will separate themselves and move up. If the 5 run rule per inning is in effect, then the innings will get over quicker and we get to play the full game. I don't think beating a team because they ran out of HRs is a significant achievement. Basically it means we won because we tied there hands behind there back. |
July 30, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: hitting tips I agree with elbows up that allow you to clear your body whiel pulling the ball; also by opening up my stance and putting front foot towards third (starting off by stepping in the bucket)and my weight back. As the ball comes in, if it is inside I rock back and simply continue to step towards third - that enables me to swing like I am hitting to center field. If the ball is on the outter half of the plate I simply rock back and step towards the direction I am hitting. Result, no pulling off the ball and I keep my hard swing and drive the ball to any field. Very important: Don't change your eye level during your stride - horizontal eyes through the swing. |
July 14, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: 2010 USSSA World Championships Instead of USSSA, why not go to the Easterns SSUSA? I would like to know who is going to the Easterns in NC Aug 6 - 8? |
July 9, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Five run equalizer Remember, it will not be 50 hrs. The 5 run rule limit would still be in effect. If need be, limit the last inning to 2 or 3 hrs due to unlimited run inning. when it comes to hustle to positions, I beat 90% of the guys everytime. Especially when we have the dugout on the thirdbase side. That is when I play third. |
July 8, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Five run equalizer You want to speed up the game. Make Hrs unlimited. You will get to 5 run innings quicker and you will see who are the power teams and allow for separation from AAA to Major to Major+. Don't change the game on balls and strike counts. |
July 7, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Five run equalizer I understand allowing 5 runs because I remember back in the early 80's in many tournaments in NJ teams stopped coming because the power teams entered and they had no shot. However, I do not understand giving the lower level team 5 runs and then say to the upper level team - now play with their rules - 3 hrs (if a AAA). That is a double hit on the higher level team. No wonder why som many teams fight to get ratings lower. Start making it more appealing to higher levels. |
July 7, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: rules question who cares is right. Come on, does a team need an out that badly. I guess the team can't beat the other team straight up. I experienced a similar issue with a team once. Bases loaded and one out and 4 runs already in. A home run was hit but the batter did not touch first. The rule was the batter was out but the run scored. Five run inning complete. So all it did was allow the coach to get an out without deserving it. |
June 22, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: Bats Discussion: best weight training to improve hitting Lifting is very important to increasing hitting for consistency and power. The only ones who say not are ones that do not lift. The head of Sports medicine and pain management in a hospital in NJ told me that for my age (58) the best way to build muscle is 2 sets of 15 (any more is just a fatigue). He also said that the back is critical to work on. Wide grip pull downs; seated rows; upright rows; and reverse flys are important. I too am a proponent of dumbell inclines (dumbells hit the stabilizer muscles). I also work forearms with reverse curls; bi's with curls and legs for a strong base and balance. How this gives you another persepctive. |
June 18, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Salem, Va Congrats Dutch. you are a class act and a great ballplayer. I wish I was there to see it; unfortuneately I was needed elsewear. Once again our teams meet; this time it was your turn. You Bucs are a great bunch. See you next time. Joe L Sweet 55 |
May 28, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Good stuff v the risk and the game equip used, et al Guys, if you don't like senior bats; go play with the other 4 teams that go to ASA Nationals. why are the most successful Assn. USSSA, SPA, ISSA? and why is ASA so poorly attended - It is because of the terrible bats. This also lends itself to shaved bats and repaints. We went thru this a few years ago. Tha ASA should wake up if they want attendance. If the highest risk is to the pitcher, put up a screen. We played in a warm-up tourney in April and all fields used screens. It did not get in the way at all. If the ball hit the screen, it was an out. so don't give me that it is a foreign object on the field because that dog won't hunt. |
May 28, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Individual Awards I like the idea of celebrating one or more of my teammates for winning the award. It is an added bonus to recognize their efforts. I agree with Paco13; if one has players on your team that gets jealous of another players success then find another team because that is not a "team". |
May 26, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ACC Nice Job Like I said, my wife hits me harder than that! No, it is still very sore. I will wear shin guards from now on. We always seem to bring out the best in each other. Very competitive and a lot of fun busting. Besides, it is always nice to face Ross and bring up my batting average. I guess it is yourturn to beat up on us. Joe |
May 24, 2010 Robo2 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ACC Nice Job Once again, it was a pleasure to compete agaist some great teams in ACC. Bass, Pace, High Street Bucs, & TNT - great games and sportsmanship. Umpires did a very good job; field conditins were great. Ross and Charlie: one of these days I will get you guys to make an out.
