Hi Gary-Our Fall season ends in December so you will have no problem finding open practices in the month of November. Where are you staying in The Villages? Bud

Hi George and Gary-The Villages fields are closed from April 12th until april 26th for maintenance. During the season there are open practices all day Sunday. You might find an open field to practice on in the afternoons during the week We are in our Fall season during the Winter nationals in Nov., so you will be able to find an open practice without any problem.

Hit with one this morning off a tee. The bat feels and sounds just like my red miken max-load. I gradually rotate the bat after each swing to break the bat in evenly. So far, so good.

Hi George-The winter season ends on 4/11, then they close the fields for maintenance until the summer season starts in May. There are a couple of fields outside of the Villages that can be used for practice. There are two batting cages right out side the Villages on Rolling Acres Road and SR 466. There is a field nearby where you will find some open practices going on. It is about a quarter of a mile north of Rolling Acres rd. and 466, on rolling Acres. It's called Harry Sachs field and is pretty well kept. The outfield fence is 250 ft. Hope this info helps. Bud

Hi surf 88-There is open practice on all fields in the Villages. There are 8 fields available. 4 at Buffalo Glen and 4 at Saddlebrook complex. Players start arriving early, around 7:45 and it goes on all day. The Villages is about 20 minutes south of Ocala, and Buffalo Glen complex is on 466 about 2 miles east of 301, directly across from Fresh Market.

Hi birdie-I have used the Easton Incredi-ball indoors.I have also used Worth NCAA lite-toss training balls for tee work in my garage. These are foam rubber. Good luck.

Hi Alan-Sorry to see Team 1 Sports left the tournament early. Miami Power won 50 Gold over Levin Financial. The fans here enjoyed watching Jose and Ozzie Canseco play. Other winners were 50 Silver-Talon Wealth Mgmt., Men's 60-Yard Dogs over Hollis Appraisals, and Men's 65-Beef O'Bradys. Good luck with your team. Bud

Hi Jac-I'm playing against Tony's team tomorrow at 8a.m. He picked up a couple of Villagers to play with the Streaks. Tom Farrell and Tom McGann are playing shortstop and middle infield. Two good players. See you soon.

Hi Alan-my team played at Saddlebrook today and your team was at Buffalo Glen. Tomorrow it should be just the opposite. I will definitely look you up on Sunday. Good luck.

Discussion: remedies for arthritis

I used to hit out of a crouch with knees bent until recently I started experiencing pain in the knees. I was also having back problems due to trying to wind up and explode the hips through the ball. I now stand straight up in the batters box with an open stance facing the pitcher. This way my hips are already open a bit. As a result, my knees and back feel much better. I don't know what grip you use on the bat, but lining up the knockin knuckles and laying the bat across the fingers and holding it loosely in your hands might relax your fingers. I also take alleve and ibuprofin before each game. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi stick8-If the shortstop runs to third base or throws to third base for force out ,for third out ,the run would not score, In the case of a tag play,if the run scores before the tag,the run should count. Good question.

Hi Webbie25-You make a good point that the players are inexperienced. As stick8 says-this is a good reason to have two first bases.

Sorry-should be baseman, not basement.

I think the first basement who has his foot in the middle of the bag while taking a throw could be called for defensive interference. The batter/runner is entitled to step on first base. Some common sense should prevail,as the first baseman's foot on top of the bag is posing a risk of injury to both players.

The appeal would have been made after the play was over. The runner who left early would have been called out and the run would not count if I was the head umpire.

If an appeal was made and the umpire saw the play and ruled the runner on third left early, the runner is out, the inning was over and the resulting rundown was inconsequential and the run would not count.
