Hi George- There is open batting practice all day on Sundays including Easter . There are Division tournaments going on now during the week. The fields should close for maintenance on 4/11 and open in early May. The Buffalo Glen complex will be closed for the entire month of May for major maintenance. Division 1 and 2 will be combined for the first time, and will play at Saddlebrook in May and move to Buffalo Glen June 1st for the rest of the summer. The new complex, Soaring Eagle, is now open, and the 68 yr. old classic league and the women's league are playing there. I have a 32 oz. metal single-wall bat. Louisville slugger TPS advanced player. I used this bat up north before coming south to double-wall and composite territory. I got this bat new for $30, fifteen years ago. I was the only one who bid on it on E-bay.

Hi PJ3P-I find it interesting that you mention Miami Power-Team 1 losers bracket final game. I watched the game on field 3. It was the first game of the day on Sunday morning. Team 1 Sports hit 4 home runs in the first inning alone and proceeded to out homer every team in the tournament. In the 2 games against Bradenton Blast ,Team 1 scored 29 and 24 runs with a lot of home runs. Some of the balls must have been good, or maybe they went over the fence sideways. Good luck with your team. Maybe the tournament will be better next year.

Hi leftybob- the canseco's and miami power won this 50's tournament last october, but the rumor at the fiield today was that they were going to play for the villages. Ossie lives nearby in Ocala, and Jose was looking to establish residency there also. Thanks for posting the teams. I will post the winners on Sunday nite.

Discussion: WHO ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST POWERFUL HITTERS IN SENIOR SOFTBALL

Hi jrhunch-What you say about the MLB players union might be true, but Jose definitely threw some union members under the bus as well. We all know money talks in pro sports. Then when something happens, everyone starts pointing the finger at someone else. As you know, for years the club owners controlled the teams and all the players. Many players held jobs in the off-season to make ends meet. Then Curt Flood and the lawsuits started and the union and free agency took over.I would have liked to think that Jose would have taken the fall without taking others with him,but I guess unless you are in that spot yourself, you wouldn't know what you would do. Also, Jim Galloway was the most powerful hitter I ever saw, and the most powerful batter I ever played against was a lefty batter named Lou Russo.

Any one coming to the villages softball tournament Oct. 17,18,19 ? I heard that the Canseco brothers were coming again this year. Not sure who they are playing for. Possibly the host team. As usual, there will be a home run hitting contest. Dave Reed of Hollis-Rose has won this event a couple of times in the past. The Villages top home run threats are Hank Culley and Dave Norvall. Should be a lot of good softball.

Hi Ceres-I have to disagree with one thing that you post. Jose,as a union member, turned in other union members.I do not respect him for that. Obviously the book was written to make him money at the expense of others. That being said, I met Jose and Ozzie at the Villages softball tournament last Oct., and they both were not only fine players on the field, but very nice guys off the field. As I always say to team mates, he who is without error may cast the first softball.

Hi jrhunch-I agree with you. That is exactly the point I made in my post of june 23. Sometimes it is the interpretation of the rule by the ump at the game that takes precedence, but common sense should prevail.Perhaps this is another timing play?

I would have thought that since 2 runs had already scored before the 2nd out was made, that they should have counted. If the batter hit with 2 outs and he missed 1st base, then I would say no runs scored if the appeal was enforced. I'm surprised that such a unique play is covered in the rule book.

I have hit with the Miken Ultra II TOC limited edition. I have hit a hundred balls off a tee, and it does not hit as far as my red Miken max-load. It is supposed to be the same bat,but I'm not getting the distance I get with the red miken. The sweet spot doesn't seem to be as good. Maybe I need more hits on it.

Hit with one this morning off a tee. The bat feels and sounds just like my red miken max-load. I gradually rotate the bat after each swing to break the bat in evenly. So far, so good.
