Personally, I would love to see some of my dad's old friends at his service. Look for me, I'll be the guy in the Air Force uniform.

Long-time Alpine resident Lyle J. Schum, 83, died of natural
causes on October 2, 2012 with family in Delta, Colorado.  He had been preceded in death in 2003 by his
wife of 54 years, Jackie.

Lyle was born (April 29, 1929) and raised in Champaign,
Illinois, before moving to Chicago in his early teens.  He became a Chicago firefighter and he and
Jackie raised seven boys.  He retired in
1983 after 30 years of service and moved to Alpine where he and Jackie
personally built their home.  Lyle was a
jack-of-all-trades who worked part-time for numerous local residents when he
wasn’t tinkering at home or playing in the La Mesa Seniors’ Softball
League.  His greatest pleasure was
hosting his large family and entertaining them with endless stories of his
comical adventures on the streets of Chicago.  Declining health caused him to leave Alpine and move closer to family in
2009.

Lyle was also preceded in death by his parents and two
sisters.  He is survived by his sons and
daughters-in-law Robert and Rhonda of Waukesha, WI; John and Colette of La
Veta, CO; Thomas and Karen of Ridgeway, CO;  James and Shirley of Hotchkiss, CO; Donald and
Donna of Culpepper, VA; Kenneth and Debra of Cedaredge, CO;  William and Tiffany of Albuquerque, NM; 15
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
