| March 13, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Other bats So maybe the senior bats are as much about impatience as anything? All the complaining about $ and lack of durability, just buy a Worth or something similar and be patient!!! I picked up a Combat Pure last year for BP and NSA league. Since I've never cracked or broken any bat, including senior, it will likely last me into my 90's! ShaneV |

| March 8, 2013 ShaneV | Topic: Bats Discussion: Ambush Bat I like the Ambush 27EL, been using it off and on for almost a year. Very solid feel. Great line drive bat, and the ball comes off quick. Feels and looks very durable. Used it first time this year last Wednesday, 45 degrees and raining. Bought 10 last year when they came out and sold them around our area. My go to bat has been the original senior grey Combat 27EL, have 2, may be nearly worn out. Have hit a few 310' in the right conditions, not a HR hitter. Also have an Ultra II 27oz, swings light, when I need it, and a couple NSA bats for another league. ShaneV |

| Sept. 19, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SO WHAT DO WE GET OTHER THEN PLAYING FOR $675.00 PER TEAM IN VEGAS I rewpect your opinion southernson and don't expect to change it any time soon. I do love the game and ask myself "how much?" each day. I do, in fact, 25% sponsor a team, travel around WA and to CA, NV, UT, CO & AZ with that team, pay for flights, gas, hotel rooms, meals, slots, water, pop, beer (only for K's since I don't drink), etc. Unlike a non-profit, I do profit, or at least earn wages directing tournaments and umpiring, and that offsets most of my softball expenses. I could not afford to travel as much if I didn't. I wish I had more details of the books of the big softball organizations. Until I know for sure we're being "gouged", I'll continue to defend them. | Sept. 19, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SO WHAT DO WE GET OTHER THEN PLAYING FOR $675.00 PER TEAM IN VEGAS I don't have any specific details to defend SSUSA or the price of this particular tournament, or any others for that matter however there is this, referring to the "non-profit" status. Imagine if SSUSA also had to make a profit for it's owners, pay income tax and charge sales tax. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think "profit" comes into play here. Salaries - yes, per diem - yes, a few perks - maybe yes, bonuses - maybe yes, profit - I don't think so: Financial Disclosures - IRS Required Senior Softball World Championships, Inc., is a tax-exempt organization, under IRC §501(c)(3), subject to the Internal Revenue Service financial information disclosure requirements listed below: Public Disclosure Requirements Applicable to Tax-Exempt Organizations In general, exempt organizations must make available for public inspection certain annual returns...and must provide copies of such returns...to individuals who request them. Copies usually must be provided immediately in the case of in-person requests, and within 30 days in the case of written requests. The tax-exempt organization may charge a reasonable copying fee (the current Federal approved photocopy rate is $0.20 per page) plus actual postage, if any. Exempt Organizations - Documents Subject to Public Disclosure An exempt organization must make available for public inspection and copying its annual return. Such returns include Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax (Senior Softball World Championships, Inc., files Form 990), Form 990-EZ, Short Form Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax, Form 990-PF, Return of Private Foundation, Form 990-BL, Information and Initial Excise Tax Return for Black Lung Benefit Trusts and Certain Related Persons, and the Form 1065, U.S. Partnership Return of Income, filed after August 17, 2006. Returns must be available for a three-year period beginning with the due date of the return (including any extension of time for filing). |
| Sept. 16, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SO WHAT DO WE GET OTHER THEN PLAYING FOR $675.00 PER TEAM IN VEGAS Uh, directors and umpires that are well rested and sharp after a good night's sleep in a comfortable room. Uh, directors that love the game, because they certainly are not getting rich doing this. Uh, decent umpires who love the game, who pay their own expenses to get to Las Vegas, pay for their own meals, etc., and who also are not getting rich. Uh, decent playfields that are usually not free. Uh, all that Las Vegas has to offer. Of course you're there to play softball but you have some free time to kill in a great location. Almost like a free vacation beyond the softball. Uh, time away from the everyday, whether that's work OR retirement. I think I could go on and on... ShaneV |
| Sept. 16, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Bases @ 70' And by the way, our Road to Las Vegas event this weekend went really well. Almost no comments on the 70' basepaths. If you really think about it you will notice the difference. At full speed, maybe one extra stride or a bit more. I've noticed with the 65' bases I usually "stutter step" at the bag to avoid the long, slow, last stride. Didn't seem to be necessary with the 70' base path. Could just be my imagination. I was a bit distracted all weekend. Not sure the impact on infielders except a bit more time to make plays. The 5' is 7.7% added to 65', but since you reach top speed way before, maybe it adds 5% to your time to reach the bag. That's not much. ShaneV |
| Sept. 16, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Bases @ 70' This is not a criticism, just a somewhat biased observation. The key terms in the official explanation that jump out at me: City of governed declined declined demanded non-negotiable governing Like I said, I'm biased... Concessions are being made and nothing (merger) is completely bad or completely good... ShaneV |
| Sept. 14, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Bases @ 70' Disappointing... |
| Sept. 14, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Bases @ 70' Just noticed that NY Motion is not on the Las Vegas team list. In fact none of the 55AAA teams (4) that played in the Eastern are coming. That is diaappointing... ShaneV |
| Sept. 14, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 50's AAA who is going to vegas in oct. And the font in the southern hemisphere of this bracket (and others) will be unreadable!!! ShaneV |
| Sept. 14, 2012 ShaneV | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 50's AAA who is going to vegas in oct. So seeding will be #1 to #52? There will be no separation of East & West at the start of bracket play. Some old guy I know was probably reading too much into this. ShaneV |
