Our 70 Maj+ team out of Las Vegas has folded. I would like to play in Phoenix and perhaps the rest of the year if a team would be interested in having me. I am eligible for 70 Maj. and Maj+ and also 65 Maj. I am able to play infield(1st and 3rd). If interested please contact me at hjc565@aol.com. Thank you

Discussion: Passing of Fred Purvis

I started playing against Fred about 15 years ago. Fred and I became friends the first day we met. As everyone has posted Fred was THE nicest guy you could ever meet. We had long talks about times back in college many discussions about softball and he and I enjoyed talking Basketball. I did get to play with Fred for a short time and as you all know he was a great teammate. Fred WE will all miss you. May God Bless you and watch over you.

Discussion: Swing Makeover #12.Using a Double Knobcuff for max power and the 70's Senior Bomb Squad from St. Petersburg, Fl

Hey Bogie. Thanks for the exciting video. I can't wait till tomorrow morning to go out and try a little different approach to hitting. I really liked the 70's BOMB squad. I have played against Thunder when he was with Rochester. He is a crusher. Thanks Steve you know Matt, Gary and I would love to be hitting with that fantastic BOMB squad.

17 black I played for the NY Clippers for one year. Play 65 Maj+ with OMEN.

It was a lot of fun traveling to a different city every other week.

Little Caesars had two former pro baseball players. Most of all the big

names in the game played. One of the biggest then was Jim Galloway. He

was the best player I had the pleasure to play with. Outstanding player

and even nicer man. I THINK?? I remember the Suds held the finals at their

complex. Big Ron D. from GSF 60 Maj+ played and Sam S played with the

Trenton Caps along with the Yankees Joe Pepitone.

surf88 My friend in NY is looking for a Reebok Model # J15862. I believe it came out in 2009. He is looking for a 26,27 and 28 0z. Would you know where he could possibly find this particular bat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Mr. Galloway was actually Jim. He was one of the nicest guys on the planet. I started playing with him towards the end of his career. He was the best all around player I played with. Great home run hitter, great line drive hitter and could play anywhere you needed him. Always a gentleman. As far as salary if I remember we made a few hundred on the weekends and our transportation and rooms was covered when we went on the road. I have no idea about big time travel at this time. There is a young man who lives here in Vegas that does play big time. He may have his own web site. Try Denny Crine. I know he is sponsored by Miken and has his own model bat. Mt. Vernon was very old at that time. We could never figure out why they played there as I said before most of us were from the island. We always thought Jones Beach would have been ideal. Good luck finding a travel team.

I played for NY Clippers for that one year. If memory serves me correctly(very questionable)our franchise did not draw many spectators. Sometime during that year some players decided to leave and jumped to other teams. I believe a team call Jet Trophy's filled in to finish out the season. Some of us stayed and finished out the year. We did play at the Mt. Vernon stadium. I still have a NY Clipper banner thanks to Ron Danoski who played for Milwalkee. I may have some of the uniform shirts still packed away but I am not positive. Did a relative of yours play on that team? Most of the original team were from Long Island. I know Lou Russo was from the Bronx. Not sure of any others. Not sure if you follow college hoops or not but my brother is head coach at Iona. Hope this helps.

Congrats to all who have been inducted this year. My good friend with whom I had the pleasure of playing with for many years when we were much younger Gary Richter. Way to go Gary. Hope all is well back in New York. Also Big Dog Danoski who I have had the pleasure of playing with and against in Senior ball. Way to go Roland Bleitz and a sweet swinging lefty Bruce Fairchild. Hope to shake your hands in Vegas and or Phoenix.

Hey Bruce. I was not with them for that tourney but they did ask me to play in two other tourneys as they were a little short. They were an awesome team. They would have given our Dan Smith a run for our money(haha). Rick and Steve both played with them. Hope the HOF calls you soon as you surely deserve it. Good luck and hope to see you on the road this year.

Discussion: Stupid Rules Who Thought of This

Larry, Playing 50 year olds is just not right and could be a little dangerous. We are fortunate we can still play some but that is just too much of an age difference. I understand it is hard to find 65 Maj+ teams to play so we also play the 60's and thats ok. I too will not play the field when I play with the 55 team. Safety first. I saw the TOC had all of ONE 65Maj+team. Being able and wanting to play 65 Maj+ and they won't allow it because they close off 2 states yet their player can all go over their state line and play. Seems a little weird. Can't speak for the Fla area but here in Vegas there are a handful of guys that want to play, with their only option being in Cali and they will not let this small group of players do this. As a director and owner of a huge organization would you not try to accommodate each and every player. Good luck next weekend in Georgetown.

Curveball Actually it is not the managers location but the state with the majority of players. I wish we had enough 65 players here but we just don't. I did go to mesquite this week and WATCH again as our 65 team who were rerated Maj* broke up and are now Major. They cannot add any more Maj* guys. We watched 2 60 Major vegas teams play. One team had 5 or 6 California players from another Maj* rated team that broke up and the other 60 Maj team had 5 or 6 Utah guys. All within the rules. No problem. Problem being there are some of us who cannot play in our own backyard. If California was opened back up we would all have a place to play. I can play 55 major a little much for a 66 year old but others here in Vegas and other states have no option. Should we not all have a place to play. Simple solution 2 out of region like the other big established organizations use. SPA LVSSA, WORLD SERIES. Not sure on the Nor-Cal and So-Cal rules. Sorry for my ramblings

Larry, Yes I am playing with OMEN in all the other organizations. Fortunately they have the 2 players outside the region rule. We plan on playing Vegas,SPA in Sparks(Labor Day weekend), World Series Palm Springs,Huntsmen games and Vegas winter Worlds. How about your 65 team?

Marv19 We had the pleasure of playing in Hemet back in Feb in the 60's. We like playing there and plan on playing there as often as we can. As you said we believe totally in your "alive and vertical with a glove" idea and it should be that way for all organizations at this point of our lives. Please don't forget to help support the Las Vegas Senior Softball organization. We run two tourneys a year. Spring and The World tourney in the fall.

Discussion: Stupid Rules Who Thought of This

Hey Larry How are you. Just turned on my computer and now my blood is boiling again. Here you have a Vegas team with 5 I say 5 California guys on it and yet not one of us can play in California. Therefore myself and it appears a few others are shut out from playing SENIOR SOFTBALL in SSUSA. The team I play for is in California as there is no place for me to play in Vegas as there are no 65 maj+ teams. There are some other Vegas guys that just want to play but can't hook up with a team in Vegas because we just don't have enough players to form more teams. Thus we are asking to play somewhere and the California teams are asking. It still amazes me how Vegas can have 9 guys from Cali on each team yet not one of us can play there. Does SSUSA care about a handful of players that are sort of stranded and just need some assistance getting on a team. We are not talking Major League players getting paid just 50-70 year old guys trying to enjoy each and every day we can get on the softball field. Is there a chance you can revisit this rule and help us all out. You had the winter worlds with close to 200 teams in Vegas and we could not play. You had Hemet which I had played in for 14-15 years or so could not play. You have Mesquite again could not play. Reno is coming up and we all would surly like to play with someone. I just don't think it is right to have to wait till i'm 75 to be able to play Maj+ again with my Cali team. Sorry guys for ranting but you have no idea what I have gone through.

Take care

Hey Larry. Thanks. I hope they address our concerns. There are a few of us that can use some help just to be able to play.
I don't understand why there should be one player in the entire country unable to play SENIOR SOFTBALL. I'm sure our paths will cross in other organizations tourneys. Take care.
