Discussion: What would you do

I play softball because I enjoy it. It is not how I make a living. I like playing with my friends in the Senior Softball Community, and should I hurt one of them it bothers me, and I would, at the very least, appologize.

Discussion: What Define a Major Plus Player, a Major Player and a AAA player and Who rates Them

With the ramifications of the rating that you receive (hard to play down) it would seem that a consistent list of attributes for players at each level could be established. Since there is an "official" scorekeeper/scorebook at each game during tournaments, a little computer work would provide stats that could make ratings fair and consistent.

Discussion: Something most married guys can relate too...

My wife knows, after 60 years of watching me play baseball, softball, and basketball, that if I going to the ball field that that is where I'll be until I get home. May not be doing anything but talking to the guys over a Miller Lite, but at the park.

Discussion: rules question

I don't understand how the last sentence in this rule applies. If the illegal courtesy runner is out, then isn't the original runner out, and not eligible to return to the base?

63 PLAYING RULES
8.4 (5) COURTESY RUNNER OFFICIALLY IN THE GAME
A courtesy runner is in the game when he/she touches the base. If
a courtesy runner is determined illegal, he/she will be called out
upon touching the base and no other courtesy runner is allowed.
The original runner my not now return as the runner.

Yes Bruce. Two umps, and I was well pleased with their ability for the most part. Now, if we could just get the scoreboards to work.

Discussion: Phantom Base Runner

Happened to a team I played with in Pensacola league play last summer. May be a little different than your circumstance, but here's what happened to us. Batter attained first base and called for a runner. The runner never took the bag, and stood in the coaches box. I was playing second base, and the next batter hit a one hopper to me. As I had noticed, but not called attention to, the fact that the pinch runner never touched first base, I threw to first to record the out on the current batter/runner. The umpire and scorekeeper had lost track of the pinch runner and only wanted to record one out. After at least fifteen minutes of explaining we were finally awarded the two outs.

Discussion: Two day vs 3 day events?

I like the two day format. However, hulstling on and off the field between innings will be necessary to make it work.

Discussion: Sportsmanship

Bruce: I'm with you on both accounts. When I play infield I will express appreciation for a well hit ball. Most players take it well, but some look at me like I have two heads. There are some coaches and players who seem to feel that they gain some advantage from intimidating umpires, and some of the results that I experienced seem to bear out their position. Too bad.

Discussion: Screens and Sun

The TD's should know which fields will have a problem with sun in the pitchers eyes at certain times of the day, and not schedule games on that field at that time. Should only have the field vacant for one game.

As for sun in the batters eyes, there are provisions in the rules to change the arc restrictions when this happens.

Discussion: MRSA (Staph Infection) and the senior player

Great post. I generally carry a small first aid kit in my bat bag. It contains packets of sterile ater, alcohol wipes, and antibiotic ointment, and sterile pads. There have been numerous times that I have offered it to players who have had cuts and scrapes as you have described, and they passed on the opportunity to clean up between innings. Hope your post will cause the light to come on, and more players/teams will begin to provide the opportunity to immediately care for these seemingly minor injuries.
