Discussion: All the hate on DBO with senior bats...how about this?

Hammer22

You make some great points. Many agree the teams today have better all around athletes because of the DBO. Now defense, speed, basehitting and managing your HRs are instrumental in winning. And I agree, DBO or not Resmondo and Laservision would still dominate upper level softball.

Hopefully you will agree that the true power teams, Steeles, Ritchs Superior, Jerrys Catering, Lighthouse, Bell Corp and the rest were fun to watch and try compete against.

Ho

I was talking the real young guys not seniors.

This year will be the 46th Smokey Mountain Classic. I believe all 45 previous tournaments have been umlimited HRs. Not only do the players love this enent but the tournament attendance record is 24,500. Now thats real softball, the best players in the game playing with no DBO.

Hammer22

You talk about the best players having to adjust to hitting it down. Well right now there are four Major teams in the U-trip conference and only two of those teams, Resmondo and Laservision, really have much of a chance of winning. Many of the top young players will tell you DBO has ruined upper level softball. The young guys have been polled and their favorite tournament is the Smokey Mountain Classic which is unlimited HRs.Should tell you something.

Tim (TM50) you played/coached/sponsored at the top level. You have seen the demise of the upper level game. You know we should not pattern our game after the young guys game.

Come on bro, Greg Connell, Scott Kirby, Brian Wegman, Jeff Hall, Bubba Mac, etc. These are the absolute best softball players on the planet and they swing composite bats. You know the players models they swing are close to our senior bats. Why should guys 50, 60 and 70 swing aluminum. Makes no sense.

Fighting technology is not the answer. Give us something better to consider.

The pitcher touching the ball rule being an out has been tried and failed miserably.

Why not have the DBO in AA, AAA and Major to keep teams from sandbagging and just let the M+ guys swing away.

Hope your doing well. Last time we talked you were looking at some surgery. If you have had this surgery I hope the results were what you expected.

Look forward to seeing you and the Monarchs soon.

I've been taking some BP with your boy Mike York, he is a beast.

Hopefully you will reconsider boycotting SSUSA . There is a possibility that the SPA will adapt the DBO rule also. The way to have the rule changed to no DBO is to play with the DBO, have middle wars if that's what's going to happen and hopefully show the organizations that the rule change wasn't good for the game. You need multiple teams to boycott to have a significant impact and that's unlikely since we all love this game and our choices of tournaments/organizations are limited.

At the end of the day we are all blessed to have the game and friendships no matter what rules we play by.

The SSUSA is going to give their reasons for the rule changes in the next newsletter. It will be interesting to see what they have to say.

Alan an Bogie

Very cool that you two know Doc. With Alan being a serious R&D guy and Bogie being one of the vidoe/hitting icons. Back in the day Doc was testing bats for Ray DeMarini.

if any of Docs family reads this Sam Galloway sends his love and remembers his wedding day many years ago when Doc was in the wedding party.

Just got word that Roger "Doc" Clay is battling cancer. Doc currently resides in Plano.

I am not sure who Doc has been playing with. If you have any information about his recent play please post.

Doc played on the great DuBose Insurane team of the 70-80s in Pensacola.

Please keep Doc and his family in your prayers.

Tim

I often read your comments on the Oldscout and agree with a lot of your opinions. That probably puts me in the minority but if you are right you're right.

I have a number of friends on the Adiktiv team and believe they could win the 50 M+ division in Vegas with or without the DBO. Hopefully they will rethink their decision to boycott SSUSA tournaments.

You obviously like the DBO for your reasons and many of us don't like it. Today the DBO is in place in the SSUSA, maybe tomorrow that will change?

Patty Mac and A dik (Paco) I for one hope Adiktiv Sports rethinks your boycotting of the SSUSA. Since you all have been tagged as a one dimensional, HR or nothing team, that should challenge you to win Vegas-DBO or not.

An absolute nightmare for a pitcher would be facing Ronnie, Paco, Lang, Patty Mac, Ananias, Tim Lee, Merrill and the rest with no HRs left to hit.

You can prove a point by not playing SSUSA or you can prove a point by playing and showing that you play D, basehit, have power and are a complete TEAM.

My bet is everybody in our little corner if the world is pulling for you to play.

Discussion: Why Not Have A Players Committee Of Real Players To Over See The Rules

Patty Mac, I really hate this gentler/kinder you. Everybody that knows you is accustomed to the edgy competitor and don't ever change

As for as you not being a complete player, come on bro get real. You are in the NSSHOF and Legends HOF. You have played at the top level for 35+ years.

People will agree and disagree with you, no problem, you only want whats you feel is best for the game.

Forget the politically correct crap, it ain't you.

Here in Pensacola we have two senior leagues along with Tuesday and Thursday morning games. Lenny is very active in their success. Lenny was recognized and awarded for his accomplishments this year including his team winning the season ending tournament.

I hope you are 100% after your rehab and hope to see you and Lynn soon.

Airbosn, cool to see a guy that plays defense, runs like the wind, basehits with anybody and doesn't live for the HR, recognize the home run is a very important part of the game.

Congtars on your award Tuesday night, was well deserved.

Like I asked above, do you two swing senior bats in tournaments? I bet you do, but why? Talk the talk then walk the walk.

We are still waiting on the 12 year old to hit 300 foot bombs.

Also, would love to see a 5 foot 100 pounder hit it 400 feet. I take BP with one of the best players in the game, a member of two HOFs, a guy that can bench press 300 + pounds, a guy who has been a premier HR hitter for 35 years and when he kills one it goes 375.

Discussion: Teams leaving SSUSA?

Something to think about. The SPA has its Rules committee meeting in January, I believe. There is a possibility the SPA will adapt the DBO and mandatory pitchers headgear.

SPA is the dominant organization in the SE, with the possible exception of South Fla. It will be interesting to see if the SPA follows the SSUSA's lead on these rule changes or not.

Adiktiv6, even though TM50/Tim, implies you guys don't' want to play M+, for us who know Adiktiv Sports, we know you all will do great in whatever division you play. We also know there are no other + teams within 500 miles for you to play.
