Discussion: ISA Tourney teams

Hey Rabbit I see you have nine teams in the NSA. That's a good number for that tournament. We are going to the ISA only because we paid our money. If we had know there were only two AAA 55 teams and we have to play against two major and one major plus team we would not have gone. We play the two AA teams on fri afternoon after they have played two games against the major and major plus teams. If I am a AA team having to play against Major and plus teams three games in a round robin that doesn't mean anything I wouldn't like it. I also don't like the giving or taking the 5 runs or extra defensive player. That rule is okay for qualifiers not a World tournament . How can you play three divisions of the same age group in the same tournament? Not exactly what you want especially if you are the lower division. I also don't like letting teams like chicago classics blue play 50 AAA when they are 55 major and travelodge 55 play 50 major when they are 55 major plus. By letting them play in the 50 they hurt the 55 which has only two major and one major plus. Sorry about the griping but there are too many world tournaments and not enough teams. Good luck this weekend.

Discussion: Makes you wonder tournament

That's one of the problems with teams getting rerated during the year. These teams should be watched very closely and if they rip through a tournament they should be bumped back up. The rating committee should track all the teams that are rerated and make sure they are not sandbagging.

Discussion: NSA Worlds in Alabama

I have played in the NSA worlds every year it has been in Alabama. The last year we played in 2005 they do not allow the UII or combat or Miken freak. They used the worse 44 core ball made. there were no home runs hit in the 50AAA tournament and most games had scores under 10 runs. Many senior teams don't go to tournaments that the UII is illegal. Also this year the ISA World in St Louis is the same weekend. Why would associations schedule their world tournaments on the same weekend in the same part of the country. I bet neither tournament will have enough teams to be classified as a world tournament. There are too many senior associations that have world tournaments and not enough teams to fill them.

Discussion: New Mat Size

Have you played with the new size mat that SPA uses. They have increased the size from 17" X 33" to 19" X 35". We used it this past weekend in Columbus, In and I think it helped the pitchers some. There wern't as many walks,

Discussion: Teams Playing Down

what is your opinion about the associations allowing teams to play down an age group and at a lower class. I know of two teams that are a 55 major plus team being allowed to play 50 major and a 55 major team allowed to play 50 AAA. This seams to set a bad precedent to me. What do you think?

Discussion: NSA WORLDS IN JULY

I have the tournament information from and it states this about the bats:
Bats--All bats must have a factory/manufacture stamp of 1.20 BPF (No sticker allowed)
The Ultra II and the Combat Da Bomb have 1.20 BPF. Does this mean they will be legal? thats what it looks like to me.

Discussion: Does your team pick tournaments they think they can win, or do you try to go to the tournaments with the most teams?

Kentucky has the following teams that play in National Tourneys.
50's---AA Zepplin AAA---OG's, Ol School,
55's--AA Zepplin AAA---Star Drywall (Metro Star)
Major----Jim & Joes(also known as Williams,Roof Concepts)
How difficult is it to keep up with current teams in the ratings. If a team is not registered with SPA or SSUSA or played in a national tournament in the other associations then they should be removed from the ratings. Like Rabbit said there are probably less than 100 teams that play the national tournaments.

McGyver there are 4 senior leagues in the Louisville area. Tue nights at St. Athanasis has a 6 team league all who play competitive tournament ball. Wed at Playsquare in Jeffersonville. This is least competitive senior league in the area. Thur at Playsquare has some of the teams from tue league. Thur at Guardian Angels is a 45 and over league. If you haven't played competitive ball I suggest you try one of the teams on wed at Playsquare. You might contact Jim with the Jeffersonville Parks Dept.

Just to let you know a little of what I know about the Senior Olympics. The games will be played at a very nice six field complex inside the base. There are two open soccer field in between two three field complexes that are used for batting practice. As far as the umpiring it will be run by KY USSSA and all will be sanction expierenced and will have training in senior rules. As far as the rest I don't know but I know the USSSA will do their best to make sure the tournament is run correctly.

Hey Rabbit this is the first I heard of Johnny's tournament being canceled. I have a call in to her to find out why. We hate to lose a home tourney. The Senior Olympics take place from June 22 through July 1. This event you had to qualify last year through your state games. I think Zeppelin from Louisville qualified from Ky. Our 55 team is shaping up. We have 12 players from our original 50 team. We hope to play about 6 or 7 tourneys. I'll let you know what I find out about Johnny's tournament.

RedEye USSSA Kentucky are running the tournament. I haven't heard what particular association rules are going to be used. Whatever rules are used I hope to help train the umpires in senior rules. We have a pretty good group of umpires in the Louisville area who have umpired senior leagues. We have a good senior league with six various traveling senior teams. These leagues are USSSA so umpires have some experience with senior rules.

I have played at Fort Knox many times. There are 6-8 motels on Hwy. 31 near the entrances to Fort Knox and they are usually very reasonable as far as rates go. Louisville is a twenty min drive down Hwy 31. I suggest staying around Ft. Knox since every time you go into the base you are subject to search. They do a random search but check everyones ID. That bring up another subject. Make sure everyone driving into the base has a non expired drivers license and current insurance and car registration papers because you will be detained(not turned away) until you prove otherwise. It is a great six field complex with two three field complexs with two soccer fields in between. A great place for hitting practice. I also suggest making reservations soon because of limited number of rooms available. Let me know if you need any other information. I will be umpiring some of the games out there during the Senior Olympics.

Discussion: Should we combine 50 with 55's?

I think the composite bats are the biggest problem with illegal bats. I think we should go back to metal bats. There was very little you could do to make a metal bat a whole lot better. I would rather swing a decent bat with a good ball over a great bat with a sock.

Discussion: Tournaments for AA/AAA and Senior Equipment

Dale the reason we have Senior bats is because of the UII. With the UII legal no other bat that is legal in any other association is as good so if a bat company wants to sell bats to senior they have to create a bat that won't pass all the other associations standards but will compare to the UII. The only reason I can see that a bat company will make a bat for seniors is because they see how many UII bats the seniors go through in a year because of the durability issues. Seniors are the only reason that Miken makes the UII.

It's no more convienient than having the SSUSA in Seattle or Phoenix. I like the idea of rotating the SPA and SSUSA Worlds around the country. I know their are some nice complexs in GA. I hope some of the west coast teams make the trip.

Thanks Bruce I assume NSA will continue to use their bat policies for Senior Ball

Redeye yes we plan on moving to 55 this year. We also will have a name change because of sponsor change. It looks like Louisville will have 4 or 5 55 teams this year. It spreads the talent out pretty thin. We are also dropping our TPS sponsorship since they can't compete with the Ultra II. We are also retiring our red, white and blue pants this year. We will be wearing boom bah pants this year.

Good Luck this year and hope to see you at the ballpark.

It's good to see NSA back in Alabama. Bruce you listed the dates as July 28-30. Those days are sat, sun and mon. It usually is fri, sat, sun. You also stated you are waiting on SPA location. Does that mean they are considering leaving Plano? Also do you know the SPA dates for the Worlds?

Discussion: It's Time For Our SSUSA Msg. Board To Achieve Full Identification Disclosure!

I agree with Einstein on full name disclosure on message boards. People are brave and say things they wouldn't say if they were identified. There is a big problem in society chat rooms where unidentifed people do some weird things. If chat rooms required ID's we wouldn't have as much weird behavior as there is. This chat room is part of senior softball and when we play we are all identifed by our names in the lineup. It should be no different here.
