Discussion: Bill Allen

Bill was special for Indianapolis Softball and he will be missed. Those of us who played out of Indy and had the opportunity to play with/for Bill will always remember him as a big supporter of softball but even more of the players who played for him. I'm lucky to have had him as a friend. Nancy thinking of you and if I can help in any way call me.

Webbie glad everything is going well for you in your recovery and I know you will be back out hitting bombs soon. Just be smart about it and I'm sure Bogie can work out any kinks in your swing....maybe he can help you hit the ball 450' consistently instead of your measly 400'!!!

Another fun and informational video in you series .... Great Job and keep it up!! You have to be impressed with these 70's stars (except for the butt sequence.) I know Hank Cluess, Matt Link and Gary Pro would have loved to be in Florida hitting with you and your 70's Bomb Squad!!!!

Discussion: CERTAIN FEES!!

Just played in the Menifee tournament (SSUSA sponsored event which normally guarantees 5 games)last week and we only played 4 games not the normal 5 game guarantee. We played 65's Thursday and Friday.
It cost individuals and team sponsors money to travel to these tournaments and it seems unjust to get only 4 games. We did have the best 2 out of 3 games for the championship but only needed 2 games not sure if that figured into the equation.
We did receive the $3 hat. Well run tournament no complaints in that department...

Bob I would agree we all have a certain amount of ego otherwise we wouldn't be playing softball. I also agree you have some excellent points about the big boys only getting 10 HR's per game. They are a little younger than us and do make a living off of the game but your point is a solid one. I also agree with southernson a point that has been basically overlooked in this thread.

My main point is "why change the rule?" I still haven't received an answer.

Perl if those are the correct scores from Major Plus Las Vegas tournament and I'm sure they are then I would think they fall in the acceptable range of scores for the 50 Major Plus.

Pointed out that the 60 Major Plus had tremendous parity this year among all 9 teams.

Just be thankful you can still play. - another great point...

I'm just saying...right PattyMac!

Discussion: Why Not Have A Players Committee Of Real Players To Over See The Rules

PattyMac,

I didn't think I would have to worry about hitting HR's at the age of 65???

Las Vegas with the Rock ball with DBO's???

If they do a survey and the results states everyone wants DBO's then so be it. I just don't get the idea of not doing a survey.

We will adjust and do fine as will our teams but, just don't agree with the new ruling.

I'm just saying.

I'm kinda of at a loss for words. DBO don't like the rule and because of that I guess I fall in the egomaniacs category!! Emotional subject with many unusual responses and accusations flying around. Regardless of if you agree or not this is not the end of the world just don't agree with the rule.

I would agree it's a business and they have every right to make a profit and I realize it's a tremendous amount of work and time to maintain an organization such as SSUSA. They have great people who are doing tremendous jobs of running a challenging task. They just pulled off an almost 500 team tournament and overall did an exceptional job. However as in any good business organization you should listen to customers and what they want. Profits and losses should reflect how well an organization does this.

As a good friend of mine would say, "Iím just saying."

Paco13 in my earlier comment I was not in any way putting down any players or teams at any level. We have great players and teams through out all of Senior Softball. In my opinion Major Plus applies to the team more than the player because you have players throughout the different division that could play at Major Plus level and play great- it's a decision to play Major Plus (or not) because of the rules, personal choices and competition level of all of the teams at that level. Other levels of softball are highly challenging and enjoyable for players. It's a personal choice at all levels.
Alan one other comment we only see the Rock ball in the two Las Vegas tournaments.

I still don't know what prompted the change in the rules. I play 60 and 65 Major Plus and we have a lot of good hitters in both divisions (You have a lot of good hitters in the other divisions as well but I'm speaking mainly about Major and Major Plus.) I have not seen the 400 and 375 ft MISSED balls going out of the park, maybe in the 50 & 55 divisions that happens. I have seen balls go that far but they were hit very hard. Do balls go out on 300 ft fences when not hit solidly - occasionally in all divisions? The point of this thread is rules were changed and we don't understand why! Many of the discussion points are good but need their own thread.
We will and can adapt to the new rules it just doesn't mean that we like the new rules or agree with it.

Discussion: HR rule - why????

George brings out a great point why change? You have lots of options besides DBO if you really need to make some adjustments you have other options (many of these have already been posted.) I see more negatives than positives coming out of these rule changes. Please explain the reasoning behind this because I really don't understand.
Do people think Major Plus players can't control their bats? What they do is hit the ball very hard and down when they are trying to not hit the ball out of the park and that is not good news for any of the infielders because a slight mishit is going at someone at a very high rate of speed and bring out unknown factors (such as extra ball movement.) If you think we are trying to hit at other players that just doesn't make sense because the odds of making an out go way up if you do that!

Someone please explain the logic behind this because I don't see it.

No disrespect to the members who represent the voting committee (especially since I don't know who they are), but I don't think you represented the desires of the Major/Major Plus with the new rules. I don't really think any Major Plus players (long term - impact players) were really on the committee to express concerns over these rule changes. It sounds like we were represented by tournament directors and coaches - which arenít bad except we need the players swinging the bats to represent us as well!!!
I understand running this association is tougher than most realize but you really need to listen to your customers. You did a survey last year which I thought was a great idea and it was hard to argue with the results. I recommend doing the same thing with this issue.

This really doesn't make much sense to me??? Why change something that is working well? Now you have a large group of players unhappy and frustrated. I understand that changes need to be made with all the lower divisions especially to give then incentives to move up a level. But I don't see that happening under the new rules...why move up no advantage to do so.
Make the Major Plus unique and desirable to play at that level instead you have penalized this group for some unknown reason. At the 60 Major Plus level none of the teams are going way over the limit on the HR's in fact most don't use all of the allotted HR's, however now they will start changing their swings and strange things will start to happen.
The new teams that were moved up last year were very competitive especially for first year teams playing at that level and they will only get better. The national tournament showed parity among all of the teams with good close games and very competitive situations - why change?

PattyMac we need to stay with this!!
