Jan. 9, 2014 junya | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: new to site I am, and have been since 1991, the coach of the Osan AB, Korea men's softball team. As of 1 JAN 2013, total non-support from the military started for both varsity and intramural sports ... across the board. Because of this we had to totally fund ourselves last year with practically no way to earn our own funds. Anyone who played or been around the military knows how difficult, if not downright impossible, it is to earn monies on a military installation. Anyway, we were lucky last season and were able to run the intramural softball leagues here on Osan, do the umpiring ourselves, and made enough funds to keep our varsity team participating in the Korea Post/Base Travel League. I read on the site about possibilites of various vendors providing "sample" or "test" items ... and we are most interested in acquiring the new 52/300 softballs. The Army, who runs the varsity league here in Korea, has determined that the 52/300 softball will be the only ball allowed in our varous tournaments/jamborees ... and of course, Osan only has about 1000 or the McGregor X-100 44/375 balls ... so they will definitely NOT purchase any other balls until these are gone. With uniforms, league participation fees, billeting, rental cars (licensed to go on both Army and AF installations) and now softballs among the items we have to provide for ourselves, the total amount of funds necessary is getting very high. If anyone knows how we could get our hands of some softballs ... free or with a nice discount ... please let me know Also, we have a tax exempt number under Osan Softball Group all set up should we ever run across someone, or some business, who would like to donate to help maintain the varsity softball program here at Osan. Personal messages can be sent to robwaddle@pobox.com Please accept my apology if this is an improper post ... as I said, I am brand new to this site. Rob Waddle Osan Coach 1991-present |
