July 5, 2017 B94 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Bat for an ASA 52/275 ball. The ASA Miken Platinum and Patriot will give all the top ASA bats a run for their money! |
June 27, 2017 B94 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New fields in Florida If you mean the Seminole County Sports Complex it looks like it would be a great place to host an event. My only question would be are there removable mounds on all of the fields as they appear to be used for hard ball? |
June 13, 2017 B94 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Trump ball used in Reno - 40 Major plus If the Stote ball is going to continue to be used hopefully it will at least be the micro cell version of the ball. Have yet to hit it since it's got humid out but it wasn't terrible at the ToC. Playing Detroit this weekend so we will see what feedback there is on the ball there. |

May 15, 2017 B94 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Lower back problems I'd also advise you to stay away from the Advil. It's really hard on you. A great natural alternative is Tumeric. I was amazed how well this worked for me... |
April 28, 2017 B94 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Out of the Batters Box. This is such a simple fix too. Adjust the batters box forward the length of home plate. Very few guys hit from the back of the box so it has minimal effect that way. The other option is to re-write the rule that you must have one foot within the length of the plate at all times. This would never have the batter's back foot further forward than the front edge of the mat regardless of stride length which varies drastically depending on the height of the batter. For the guys who "shuffle" they could start with the front foot at the back of the mat and shuffle to finish with the back foot no further forward than the front of the mat. I think this would also simplify things for the umpire as he can see the positioning of most batters who "plant" in the box at the start of the pitch so the only one that makes it more challenging is the batter who "shuffles" in the box. I think overall this would be much easier to enforce and would keep everyone happier. |

April 24, 2017 B94 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Out of the Batters Box. If you're going to enforce this rule to the letter then you need to go back to a cut out mat where a ball that lands on the plate is a ball not a strike as it is with the current mat as that 6' pitch on the front edge of the mat is virtually un-hittable without the batter positioning themselves at the front of the plate. In this situation any type of a stride will take you out of the box. By using the cut out the batter can now move back another 12-18" where they won't stride out of the box. |
April 10, 2017 B94 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: First Base glove Rather than updating the rule book for with a penalty if the pitcher is wearing a first base mitt I think the rules need to be amended to allow the pitcher to wear a "mitt" if it makes him more comfortable in protecting himself. In the current game pitchers are wearing chest protectors, shin pads and other PPG to feel safe as well as the mandatory protection of a mask/pitching helmet so why would SSUSA not allow a pitcher to use whatever glove/mitt he feels comfortable with that meets "legal specs"? Maybe it's time to adapt the rule to simply give pitchers the best chance possible to protect themselves... Personally I don't see wearing a mitt over a traditional glove as a game changer. I think for most pitchers it's simply more about comfort level and maybe a bit more padding in the glove for those rockets hit at the closest guy on the field. Just my $.02... |

Jan. 27, 2017 B94 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Penalty for offensive intereference I believe the only way the runner closest to the plate is ruled out if it is deemed to be "intentional" interference which is still a judgement call by the umpire... |
Jan. 20, 2017 B94 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Miken Question These are far from the same bat RG. Just because the basic specs provided appear similar the actual bats are built differently. The angle the composite is applied, the resins used, weighting of the bats are all different without even mentioning that the F30 is a 12" barrel bat while the Psycho and DC41 are 14" barrel bats. There is a ton of R&D goes into these bats hence the differences in sound, feel & break in time to many of these bats. Guys have "speculated" for many years that bats are simply repaints but that is really just an uninformed assumption and we all know what tends to happen when you assume... |
Dec. 22, 2016 B94 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Staff Dave I don't think players are necessarily looking for a "hotter" ball but a more consistent ball. When it's cool and the air is dry the Stote performs fine, however, when it is hot or humid the ball performance diminishes severely. Maybe a ball change isn't in order but a nudge of the manufacturer to see what can be done to resolve the issues that are being brought to your attention. Safe bet this won't be the first time they have heard this... |
Dec. 21, 2016 B94 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Staff Even with SSUSA having a national softball contract with Anaconda Sports/BSN that requires exclusive use of their softballs there should be other ball options besides the Stote are there not? Just a quick peek at the BSN website shows the EVIL 44/375 as an option. The feedback from your membership on the poor attributes of the Trump Stote should at least be enough for you to investigate other options I would hope. |
Dec. 8, 2016 B94 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Scoring of Runs - Question concerning interpretation of Section 5.7 I may be wrong but I would think that because of the dead ball appeal this is a timing play. So yes the catch was made for the second out, then the throw was made which went out of play awarding the runners 2 bases which would score both runs. Then the appeal is made that the runner from third left early which is upheld so the runner from third is out on the appeal, therefore his run doesn't score. However, the run scored by the runner from 2nd base would still count as he scored before the third out was recorded on the dead ball appeal. |

Dec. 8, 2016 B94 | Topic: Product review Discussion: Trump Rock The 52/300 ball is relatively consistent in all weather. It would be nice to find a 44/375 that performs similarly. I've played with both and though I have gotten used to playing with the 52/300 (it still flies well if you spin it) I sure like the feel and sound of a good 44/375 ball coming off the bat when you've made good contact... |
Dec. 2, 2016 B94 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Why so many shaved senior bats My understanding is a shaved bat could pass compression and a well worked in bat could fail so you would be punishing guys that put work in and hit a lot as opposed to punishing the cheaters... |
Nov. 29, 2016 B94 | Topic: Product review Discussion: Trump Rock I agree the Rock is too hot however a ball that plays in the middle between the Stote and the Rock would be a nice compromise. |
Nov. 28, 2016 B94 | Topic: Product review Discussion: Trump Rock If they are going to continue to use the Trump Stote they need to up the quality of the ball so it isn't so temperature sensitive. It's mush when it's hot and humid and just ok in the dry cool air. There have to be better balls available at a similar price point... |
