Discussion: Need your opinon....and ideas

Hey Brett, I like your ideas. The only problem I see, is most teams are set up for the age brackets established by SPA, SSUSA and ISSA. That is on the 5's, 50, 55, 60... Our team for example would have to play in the 50-57 group to have enough to play. Us against 50's teams would be tough on us. But I like all your other idea's. Keep us posted regardless.

Hey Bruce, my name is Vance. I played left field for the Swarm this past weekend. You guy's reputation as hitters precedes you, so everyone is going to attempt to step their game up when they play you. Enjoyed our games and look forward to many more. Your team launched some serious home runs last weekend.

Discussion: any results info for Cullman Tourney?

The funniest thing of all. On those short porches in Pensacola, we hit 4 total HR's in 5 games. Total, not per game.

Lol! That joke ran around Sunday as we were finishing. While I'm not opposed to moving up, the team would rather stay where we are because of the number of teams available in Major. From what I have seen so far, take the 7 or 8 teams I've seen and throw them all in the same classification, whichever you prefer and play the season. That way there are enough teams to make it worth everyone's time.

Discussion: Why I like softball.

Here's what I have control over, how well I hit. I have no control over how the rest of my guys hit. I don't have to celebrate hitting well and not winning, but going 25-25 is still an accomplishment. As is 21-23.

Discussion: Calling ALL 55 teams.. Come to Mobile, Al on April 2nd....

My understanding was we were already committed to 2 tournaments in April already. Team didn't want to play 3 that month. Mobile doesn't have a good reputation for being a good tournament also, not sure why. I wish we would have played in it, it's the closest tournament to my home.

Discussion: Bats

Hate to hear you're having trouble with the Ultra II. I used one for a season and a half before it blew up, lots of swings with it. Got the new Ultra II Black end load. Absolutely love it so far, no problems with it at all.

Discussion: face masks

I don't pitch, not brave enough to stand that close. But I have played both corners. Never contemplated wearing a mask, but that might be changing. Saw a guy in Birmingham take a bad hop right between the eyes. Because he had a mask on, he simply picked the ball up and threw the guy out. If not for the mask, he would have most likely been busted open and through for the day. Had nothing to do with the bat or the ball, but the field conditions after being played on all day. Hit a bad place in the infield and jumped straight up.

Discussion: bat rolling

Not agreeing with rolling bats, I don't need to do that. As a matter of fact, to me it takes away from the number of swings I can get out of a bat. As much as they cost, why cheat myself out of some swings. My point in posting was that I don't see where Cougar admitted to using anything. He just voiced his opinion on what he thought rolling did. I re-read it several times and don't see where he ever admitted to anything. Correct me if I'm wrong. I posted early in this that I thought all it did was break in the bat, never did that to a bat so I'm just going off what I was told. Will be the first to admit if I'm wrong.

Discussion: Birmingham Tourney

Saw a lot of long home runs hit Saturday. Montgomery Swarm 50's hit it pretty well as a team.

Thanks to Steve for putting this one on. It was great to get out and get some quality swings in before the season gets kicked off.

Discussion: Your opinion on best Senior Bat

So this is absolutely my opinion only, based on bats that I have tried. Reebok Melee has always been my favorite. Not real durable, but feels very good to swing and the ball jumps off the bat. Just got a 2016 Miken Ultra II Black and really like the way it feels. Only had BP with it so far, get to use it in games in a couple of weeks. Got a Demarini The One just to use as a BP bat, turns out this is a really good bat. Not sure how durable it will be, but it's just as good as anything in my bag right how. I tried a Hyper Z, really didn't like it. Didn't feel right for me at all. But that's just me.

Discussion: bat rolling

Not an expert, but my understanding is that rolling a bat will not necessarily add distance. All it does is "break" the bat in. Just accelerates where you would be if you took the hundred or so cuts it takes for a bat to "open" up. Now shaving is a different story. I've heard people shave senior bats, can't imagine why. Hot enough out of the wrapper.

Hey Steve, The Montgomery Swarm are actually playing in the 55 division this year. Moving on up. The Southern Hurricanes disbanded after Pensacola as well. Not sure if someone else might be using the name.

Steve, looking forward to playing in your tournament again. Why the change to 5 and an out? Has always been 5 and a single.

Hey law dog, text me some contact information. We are a 50 AAA team out of Mississippi. I'm pretty sure we could use another player. 601-916-1234.
