Discussion: Shared bat rule.....really?

The gist of the rule is. For the first 8 games of the season in the 50+ league, all bats must be placed against the backstop behind the catcher and both teams are allowed to use anyone's bat they want. In my opinion this shows complete disregard to the player who purchased the bat and the fact that these bats have a limited performance life. It does not seem right that somebody spends $ on a nice bat and the rule demands that his personal bat is fair game for anyone to use. There is a financial consideration here that this rule simply ignores.

You will find information on this rule in the 4/2 meeting minutes posted in the union county senior softball website. Previous meeting minutes expand on what the rule entails. Seems to be something they will enforce on a trial basis for the 1st 8 games on the season.

What's next? Demanding to use the gloves of opponents who can field well due to the suspicion that they must be better fielders because they are using a superior mitt?
