Discussion: Question about Brambleton, VA fields

Omar, we were there that weekend, there was only 1 major+ team in our bracket. As you know that is an open field so they use temp fences. They should ( and could have ) been at 320 max. I did not hear of any complaints from the outfielders on any of the teams but on Sunday there were a lot of tired guys. That was a lot of ground to cover, and what should have been singles were doubles. There were more complaints from batters hitting balls 350 + that were caught. There was no reason to have the fences back that far.

Ive been having the same issues ad HSquared. I cannot open brackets or scores on my Android. My I pad or computer works just fine. This started sometime early this year. Im not sure if its a Google issue or something changed with SSUSA.

Downtown Franklin is is a great place, some very food places to eat. Check out Leipers Fork Distillery which is about 15 minutes from downtown if you have the time. You wont be disappointed.

Dave, the weather next week is supposedly going to be in the upper 80' - low 90's. Can you arrange to have it around....say upper 70's ? Thanks in advance

At least its a .44 375 ball so it should be good. Time will tell how it holds up in warmer weather as the forecast next in Reno is mid 80's.

Both teams will be hitting the same ball, so cant blame the ball if you lose.

Discussion: How would you rule?

Id have ballgame also, it sucks for the home team but rules are rules. Hard to believe that they didnt know the rule if they are playing in high school.

I bet a few of the parents of the home team wrongfully so let the umpires have it.

True B J, in senior ball with a mat , I dont remember ever seeing a catcher actually catch the ball before it hit the ground. If he was close enough to the mat to catch the ball in the air he'd get his head taken off. Most of us as a batter has caught the ball in the air if its coming at us or clearly inside without a word from either rhe umpire or the catcher.

Looks like the 50's have played at Golden Eagle 7 out of the last 9 years. If using a rotating schedule, yes the 50's would be due to play in Carson City this year since last year didnt happen.

Wood, we were there last weekend as well and also last year for the Worlds using the same ball. From my understanding, it is not SSUSA telling us that we have to use this ball, its coming from the local authorities telling SSUSA that we cannot hit those balls due to the complaints from the residents that live in the houses that are being pelted from the balls.

While the ball isnt very good, Little Valley fields are great and both teams are using the same ball so at least its fair. Id play there again at the next chance, it sure beats no ball at all like we have in Cali.

Stick8, it sounds like we have pretty much the same rules as Franjan. In our league, even tho you can run wide of the bag to avoid a collision it doesn't matter if you touch the bag or run wide as long as you dont make a turn towards the next bag or home plate you can walk back to the bag without the risk of being tagged out.

Discussion: COVID 19 PROTOCOLS

Agree with Sodtball4b, its not really a big deal to wear a mask so we can take the field. It sure beats not playing. Im sure the connotation of ' senior softball " could be a tough sell to local governments who hear that and envision a bunch of old guys who are more at risk of hospitalization if they contract Covid. We are lucky to be playing at all, lets keep each other safe.

Gee DC Pete, thats what i was trying to say. Lol.

As usual BJ & Stick are correct. It really comes down to each league and how their rule is written. In ours, there is no penalty for the runner touchs the bag if there is no defender there. If the defender is pulled off the bag the runner should be allowed to step on the bag. The runner as long as he/she does turn towards the next base or plate should be allowed to walk back to that base with no risk of being tagged out.

Franjan, our local club also has in place the rule where you can run wide left or right of tue bag depending on where the defensive player is for both day and night play. It is used in night play even tho the majority of players range from 50 - 60 but we do have a few guys who are pushing 70 that come out to play.

As for your question, a player CAN touch the bag as long as the fielder is not postioned there without the risk of being tagged out before he returns to the bag and cannot be called out for touching the bag.

Also if the batter is trying to take 2 or 3 bases and a throw is coming in, he just needs to make a swipe tag motion ( without actually touching the runner ) to make the out.

Discussion: Mens 40's in Cathedral City in March

I just received the email stating that the mens 40's have been added. It is March 20, 21 in Cathedral City. Has this has been approved to take place since we have been shut down in Cali the entire 2020 season as well as this year to date ? I sure hope we can start playing ball here in spring.

Discussion: Finger Protection

I would have to agree with Wayne, use a plastc finger splint. Slide it on and use surgical tape around it in a couple of places. This will prevent the finger from bending and you can get it in your glove easy enough. Ive also broken the pinky finger on my glove hand and was able to play with the splint.

Ive used the link that was on my home profile page in the past. There used to be a link there at the end of the year if card was expired for the upcoming year. The last time i renewed my card in 2018 i don't remember the link being there. Just call the office during regular hours tho and someone will get that handled for you quick and easy.

Discussion: LVSSA/SSUSA

Well said Softball4b. A big thank you to SSUSA for putting in the extra time and effort in securing us fields to play on. This was our 1st event this year and we werent sure what we would look like but it didnt matter, we just wanted to play again.

Agree 100% on the umpires, we had umpires running to get into position to make a call. Every umpire we had were very good. The directors at the fields, Tim M at Little Valley and Jerry at The Canyons were awesome and helpful. We had a great time & cant wait to take the field again. All the teams we played were class acts as well.

Props to SSUSA and staff, you guys nailed it in a very difficult year.

Discussion: C19 at Worlds.

A little disturbing to read that a couple of players had tested positive that were staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites. Our team also stayed there last week and weekend. 2 of our teammates took the test yesterday before we were all notified of the positive tests of a couple of teammates. They took the test just as a precaution. Then today we found out that we stayed at the same hotel. Early evening today both of our players were notified that their tests were negative. That is a big relief. Im putting this out there as i know there was players from other teams staying there as well.

I hope for a full and speedy recovery for the players that have contracted the virus.
