Only time we wanted to be vistors was in RR when total runs made a deferance in seeding. Sometime you play a Major or AAA team in RR and you are AA, no reason to let them have an all you can get inning in that case.

Where are you guys from .I coached the Texas Tornado team for about 8 years. We are from the Plano area. We were AA finished 3rd in the SPA in Florida when we were 55's. We played one year as 60's and disbanded last year.

Discussion: teams in 60 Major+

thanks for the info I thought that might be Hendricks group I did not know of any other Major+ group. He normally has a very good team. We used to catch them early in the year in Baytown since it was early you had to play everyone we were a known AA team but we played them, another tough team from Fla. Bales from Ark. I always said you have to go and get killed for a couple of tournament before they rank you. Although the same players are playing for the same teams most of the time.

Discussion: Major's playing in AAA tourney?????

I read this discussion and had some questions.I thought the 50 and 55's Major teams had their own tourney last month or earlier. Why would they be allowed to play again, even if it was just to play. These are the Nationals not a pick up tourney????

Thats funny I got an e-mail from one of the guys on our team in 99 he said sounds like the Red Roof we stayed at that year, don't know about drug labs but we did have hookers at all hours of the day and night. We were up at 6:00 in the morning heading out to the park and a young girl with her baby was hanging around the lobby. They did not seem to bother us I guess we looked a little old to be looking for action especially coming in after playing several games.

I remember the young days with the ump having control of the strike zone and I don't want to go back. Any ball that hit right behind the plate was a strike no matter it did not get a foot high.

Discussion: Ring tournaments--7 innings--1&1 count

This is not a big problem in AA since we have the 5 run rule. And the 5 run rule is great for getting teams off the fields on very hot days, no real long innings. When a tourney is AA only we never run to far behind. In Plano a few years ago the Major and Plus divisions ran the tourney real late with 2 1/2 hour games and that just the nature of the beast. But if you keep the various divisions on the same fields then only the big boys get behind not the whole tourney. This is only a problem in quailfiers.

the key to playing 1-1 is good umps. I would not want play 1-1 without the mat.

The problem I see with making the mat wider is pitchers who will pitch outside will get nailed with more hits up the middle. I think making the mat longer would help the pitchers.

Discussion: WHY DO WE KEEP GOING TO THESE TOURNAMENTS?

I have played AA for several years and in the SPA Nationals we always have a great field. The quailfiers are the problem because there are not enough AA's in the area. In DFW we had only 2 AA teams one Major and us. We went to Oklahoma City area and had 12 teams but we played 2 Major teams, and one of them was put in the silver division and won easily KC Fire. It would have been a good tourney if the director had known how to divide the teams.

Discussion: seeding for nationals

I've read all the ideas but I think the best tourney we have played in was SSUSA a few years ago in LV. We had four 8 team pools and played 7 games with the top 2 going to a single game tourney. It was fair we went 3-4 lost 3 of the games by 1 run and we gave our pool winner their only lose. That format gives you a lot of games and they all count. Like I have said for AA teams and guys who only play one or two nationals a 3 or 4 day tourney is not a problem. I would like to see the AA's get together and make a commitment to play X tourneys each year. We played in 4 tourneys not counting the SPA nationals and played only 3 AA games.

Discussion: 4 days is one too many

This year Tulsa had the 69's starting Thursday playing through Sat. We skipped it and will continue to avoid the Thursday starts, we do make exceptions for the Nationals, if you can't get off a couple of day for the big events you should not be on a tournament team. Now we don't play but 2 at the most, teams playing 4 or 5 I understand the problem. I have suggested that they have on 2 RR games and they are practice only I'm convinced you can't seed a tourney with 3 games. At a national tournament just put everyone in a hat and draw, that is fair. We have been in tournament where we play 3 good teams and others where we played 3 bad teams, its not fair either way. You could ask who wants to play RR games the teams that do show up on Thursday and play, anyone not wanting practice games show up for the DE and play. Fair for everyone. But same cost for everyone. it up to each team to do whats best for them.

Discussion: players playing down

I have another question, when can a player play down?? Not during the season but example: a player can no longer play at a Major level or just does not want to play. I think he should be able to move down, one player does not make a team Major. The Loboz play AAA and they have at least 1 guy who was Major or Major Plus and he is allowed to play in SPA. I think all groups need to share a web site for rosters thats an easy cross referance and most groups have lap tops so you could handle any questions real quick. Label each play Major AAA etc, that way you can set teams early in the year dicide how many of X players it take to make a team Major AAA etc. That way AA teams don't have to go to 3 or 4 tourneys and get the heck kicked out of them to show you they are AA. We want to play but we played only 2 AA teams in 4 tournament until the nationals. In Mustang Oklahoma there were several AA teams but we ended up playing Texas Legends/Major K.C. Fire Major, And the kicker was Fire was put in the silver division.

Discussion: Seattle

I noticed that the 55AA only had 7 teams and 60AA had 17. The last time we played SSUSA in LV we had 32 teams in the 55AA. Moving to the west coast seems to have resulted in a smaller number of teams. But we only had 10 teams in the 60AA in Plano. Maybe senior ball is just down somewhat from a few years ago. Gas, etc.
