| Dec. 17, 2012 boston | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: AAA Home Run Outs The equipment has progressed and we must progress with it. I like the new equipment because it makes the game livelier. I personally like the composite bats not only for the way I hit, but also for the way they allow for tons of action in the OF. I keep myself in shape, so I can stay on top of my game with the equipment. I have not played the game as long as many of the players on the board. So I cannot relate to softball in the 70' and 80's. I have never played baseball with anything but a wooden bat, even in the 90's. But, I probably would have enjoyed the metal bats. Expense and durability are a key for me as well. My son played with metal in high school and leagues. They then went to wood and i would up paying more having to replace wood bats. Sort of like using senior bats over USSSA or ASA bats. As I have stated earlier senior bats are unnecessary with the technology in all bats. That is one of the changes I would make. As for my game changing with wood or aluminum. i am still plenty fast enough so my game wouldn't be affected like the big guys that depend solely on power. |
| Dec. 17, 2012 boston | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: AAA Home Run Outs I am for removing senior bats, they are far too hot. But, I do feel using USSSA or ASA composites would be fine. These bats are very capable with plenty of pop for those that need it. They are also more durable and have 400 day warranties. You can also find many of them on sale for $149 to $220 instead of $300 to $340. Easton has several USSSA bats that come with 2 returns. These bats are also great in cold weather. I used my new Worth Resmondo WSE (Christmas present)this past weekend in 50 degree weather. It performed awesome 3-4 w/ 3 HR's. I'm a little guy at 175 lbs. Another player used my Worth 454 and hit 2 out. As you can see senior bats or USSSA bats composites are hot. As I have said in the past just a matter of hitting 340 to 400 feet or 305 to 330 ft. Still a home run. As for going back to wood or aluminum no way. We should use the technology that is available today. Senior ball has changed alot of rules to accommodate for the age and skill of the players. Changing to wood and aluminum bats wold be ludicrous. "Stay thirty my Friends" |
| Dec. 12, 2012 boston | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Just played tourney w/ 1-1 count This past weekend I played in the rec. tourney in Tucson. Some new speed up rules were applied and games were 55 mins. All the games I played in went 7 innings. We used the 1-1 count but with no courtesy foul. Lots of foul ball 3rd strike outs. Didn't appear to be a lot of happy campers. It didn't affect me but I prefer the courtesy. The umps also hustled players in and out and no warm-ups between innings. For the most part guys hustled in and out and the between inning stop and BS sessions were eliminated. You BS'd on the move. Runners were also being put in quickly usually before on deck batter was in box. I must state this was my first SSUSA tourney since march of 2012. I enjoyed it lots of fun and met some great guys. I went with a 55AAA team and we played 60 major, 50AAA straight up no equalizer. I loved it ask for nothing and just play. |

I play alot of USSSA and we use the Rock as much as possible. These balls are sick. I have several older ones my senior buddies & I use for bp as well and people hit the piss out of them. I can se where these balls made a difference w/ senior bats. |

I believe I used it in a USSSA tourney maybe ASA anyway. Give the base runner the opportunity to step off the base and stand some 5' from the base. When the ball is hit the runner must tag the base first before proceeding to the next base. I personally in senior and USSSA league and tourneys leave 3rd base as the ball reaches the plate and head into foul territory. I have never been called for leaving the base early. I make it a point to got back and touch 3rd before going home. I have also never had an oppossing team complain. In fact the response from every 3rd baseman is. "So this guy likes to pull" and we both laugh. If I know a player pulls I refuse to be a human target. lol "Stay thirsty my friends" |

| Dec. 2, 2012 boston | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Grading the Rule Changes I found the stats on the number of Hr's hit in AAA very telling. it appears there are a number of players and teams playing below what many may believe is their true level of play. It appears sandbagging is alive and well in senior softball. Maybe the new rule for AAA HR's will cuase some teams and players to move up to where they should be. I am an advocate of the 1-1 count. Every tourney I have played in with the 4-3 count. Players sit and wait for the first strike anyway. A 1-1 count would elimate this writing and batters would be more inclined to swing 1st strike. Wes: I concur w/ the on deck batter situation and add the chit chat going on coming on and off the field. Hustle in and hustle out is lost in the senior game. Guys complain they can't get all the innings in but aren't willing to change the way they do things. I also say a courtesy runner should be available as soon as the initial runner gets to the base. If a batter is in the box no courtesy runner while that batter is hitting. Replace the runner while the next bateer is coming to the plate only. "Stay thirsty my friends" |

We have 18 teams in our league and a couple others in Silver City that do not play in our league. Should be close to 300 players that could send out e-mails. |

As a youngster it was about mass, power and strength. For the past 20 yrs it has been more about maintaining my strength but a more concentrated effort toward maintaining definition and muscular endurance. I have been taking branched-chain aminos and protien for yeas. Throw in some creatine and now Bulgarian Tribulus Terrestris an testosterone enhancer I feel great. I have been able to maintain my definition and muscular endurance with my workouts. When I started playing seniors I was amazed at the size of some of these Major plus guys. With all my years of working out I have never once used PED's that were banned. Now, don't get me wrong, had I known PED's would have gotten me into the NBA or MLB I would have used them no questions asked. But, to use them for senior ball which I suspect more major Plus players are using than will admit is BS. I have never found a good substitute for hard work especially at our age.
