Discussion: Worth 510 Launch - Old or New?

I hit with a red Worth 510 yesterday and it definitely had less pop than the gold version. Maybe it's just the batch from China?

I'm a singles hitter and use a 27 oz. bat. I agree that the Worth hits about the same as the Ultra II. I could only find a 26 oz gold Worth and bought it for $139. I'm hopeful, but worried.

Discussion: Worth 510 Launch - Old or New?

How does the new red/maroon Worth 510 Launch compare with the "old" yellow/gold version?

Any objective reviews on the internet?

Discussion: Prostate Issues

Ed Andrews,

I had my prostate out two years with a robot and started playing 5 weeks after that. I'm 70 years old and still playing over 200 games a year.

I wrote a report on my experience and I'll send a copy to your email. It's informative and funny from a senior player's point of view. Call me if you want to talk about anything regarding PC.

Does anyone else want a copy?

Discussion: Statistic software

I need software to keep track of my team's statistics. I want to use a scorebook at the field and then enter the game stats to calculate game, tournament, and year-to-date stats.

Any suggestions?

I currently do this with a spreadsheet program I developed, but it's too much work.

Discussion: 70+ teams: Which tournaments are you planning to attend?

It would be great to know which tournaments the 70s team will be attending. How about listing your "planned" schedule.

Some of these might change, but here's where we plan to play:

Peoria - Feb
Apache Junction - Mar
Kent (maybe) - May
Reno - May
Redmond, WA (maybe) - Jun
Portland - June
Shelton - Jul
SLC - Aug
Medford - Sep
St George - Oct
Phoenix - Oct
Las Vegas - Nov

Discussion: Which teams are going to which tournaments - Use this site

Most of us want to know ahead of time who will be going to which tournaments. A few teams have started to ask the question on this site.

It would be great if SS USA could make this a permanent feature of this site.

I'm going to do this for my 70 AAA team in another string.

Discussion: team ratings?

Taits,

I'm not sure what you mean. Please try again.

Here's my point using a personal example from a few years ago: I was managing aa appropriately rated AA team. Because a few of my players couldn't make a USSSA tournament, I picked up a few excellent players just to be able to play. I didn't hide anything and no one questioned my roster.

There was only one other team there and we beat them in the IF game by one run and was immediately moved to AAA. This caused about one year of agony, getting our butts kicked through the required 3 tournaments (We were 1 and 18 as a AAA before getting re-rated).

At that time, using Summit rules, it didn't make a difference that the players I used in the USSSA were not, and would never be on my SS USA roster.

In retrospect, we should have stayed home or used different uniforms.

Discussion: team ratings?

After last year's Summit, SS USA announced it would keep its own ratings using its own tournament resuts only. It no longer would include results from other associations' tournaments.

Other associations are not strick enough when policing their rosters.

Discussion: TOC 60 Major Plus

Fastsigns 65+ was invited as AA (Palm Springs and Reno) and as AAA (SLC) and will go to the TOC as AAA.

PS Fastsigns came in tied for 4th/5th in Phoenix as AAA.

Discussion: T-Shirts - What to do?

What do you do with all of your old softball t-shirts? I'll never wear all of them, but I can't get myself to just toss them.

I made a New Year's resolution to "clean up the place!" (Well, I was instructed to make the resolution by my house mate. Hope she's not reading these things)

Anyone have tips that work? I've tried the usual break-in techniques such as glove conditioner, tying glove up with a ball inside, and lots of catches. Any "secret" techniques?

Discussion: Why have 11 on defense for 70+ teams?

Appreciate all of your opinions. FYI: I have played 11 on defense for the last 5 years in 3 different leagues and St George. I should have said the players and mangers that I have talked to have the opinions I quoted.

I'm glad to find out there are other opinions.

Discussion: Why have 11 on defense for 70+ teams?

Why do we have to play with 11 on defense? I suspect the original reason was to protect the pitcher -- but we now have the protect-the-pitcher rule. Or it could have been the lack of speed to cover the outfield and the need to have 5 outfielders -- but almost every team positions the 11th player as an infielder.

Batters don’t like it -- the infield has far fewer holes, smaller 5-6 and 3-4 holes and no middle.

Defensive players don’t like it -- it becomes very confusing at second base, often leaving one player in limbo.

Managers don’t like it -- they have to recruit another player and deal with the second base confusion and issues.

Who likes it?

Should we go back to 10 on defense for 70s and maybe beyond?

Discussion: Out at the plate

I support Terry's interpretation of the rule. A team is rated and invited to the Worlds based upon it's performance in qualifiers or regional tournaments. It would be unfair to add players from upper skill levels so late in the season. No 2 cents.

Here's a question for those of you who profess that (in my words) "I'm not as good a player as I used to be (injured, older, etc.) and ought to be able to play on a weaker team." Would you agree to a maximum batting averge, number of home runs, or whatever if allowed to play down?

Discussion: USSSA World Championships

USSSA dropped out of the Senior Summit 2 years ago in the middle of the Summit meeting of all softball associations.

In case you don't know, the Summit was set up by SS USA to make senior softball better by discussing differences among the associations and to ask individual associations to voluntarily modify its rules to be as consistent as possible.

As a player rep, I was at the meeting when USSSA just walked out and left the Summit.

Do you need to know anything else about USSSA?

Ken,

Barbarella is correct. Jane does a strip tease during the opening credits. My movie book says the film is PG, not X.

Check out Jane experiencing the "Excessive Machine" in this link:

A couple of other curious things from the film:

The band Duran Duran takes its name from the mad scientist Dr. Durand Durand

The village name of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was used as the password for Dildano's headquarters.
