Topic: Rules of the game
Discussion: commit line between third and home

I know this is an old thread; I ran across it while investigating possible rules changes for our youth fall ball baseball league.

Jetboy: A runner at 3rd should NEVER go past the line on a fly ball with less than 2 outs; with 2 outs he should be committed to running on contact anyway. A runner at 3rd with less than two outs should NOT go partway with the intent of returning to the bag if the fly ball is caught. Instead, the runner should stay on the bag so that he/she can leave for home immediately once the ball either drops or is caught. This way the runner still can score on a caught fly ball. Team that employ this offensive strategy will score quite a few more runs over the course of a season.
