There is no doubt that softball is alive and ready to play in Houston. Firemans EarlyBird in Pasadena, Tx(east of Houston) is closed. Toooo many teams. It's teams and players like this that make softball so much fun. Jim and I are proud to be a small part of it. Will see all the teams (26) Feb. 21 and 22. Good luck to all.

#6. Kipper Mease is Feb. 21 and 22. Jim Tharp and I are running it. Looking like it will hit 2 days, since I am getting so many teams that want to play. Trying to keep it to one day, but it would be all day Saturday If we did. Glad your coming. Should be a good one. Be nice to see a lot of the out of town guys that are coming. Good way to start the year. Ya Ed(Dallas Spurs) even you. See you guys soon.

Strange to say the least. Have two divisons. Winner of one division gets awards and winner of other division gets awards. If that is the important issue here. Might even get some upsets. Otherwise, your roster is your team. Whether they show or not shouldn't be a league concern. Now, was this announced before or after the draft? That would have an affect on the draft. Think you'll need more info to get a good solid reply from most. Now a days, anything is possible in a senior softball activity. This is a new one though. Good luck
PS How did so many good players get on the top three teams, that the other five need runs? Something missing here. Just my 2 cents though. GT

Robo2, I know one tournament director that was never contacted, so can't advise how many if any. Can only say for sure, I know one. Not in favor of these rules. As a AAA team, was not uncommon to play Major Plus and / or Major teams. Don't look forward to more up the middle that already come. Have no idea how these rule changes will affect that. Only time will tell. Again, I will say, not as worried about the ball and bat as I am with field condition and weather. Sunny days with sun in your eyes or a reflection off the building behind the backstop bother me more. Hope my insurance is paid up. See a lot of you soon, mostly in Texas though.

Frank, fee is $150.00 four(4) games round robin. Usually done in one day, but will depend on number of teams. Starting to get a lot of 60's . Early in Jan. will know much more. Also, we pay the umps. Can't beat this deal. 4 games and umps included. Lot of fun and you'll run acorss old friends , since I get many from SA , CC and Austin. Glad you'll be joining us. Just need to know for sure age and what ranking you'll be. Also, a team name would be good. Let Ed bring enough beer for everyone. I hear he is loaded. See you guys soon. Thanks. GT
PS I can help you out with a starting time. early or later, let me know.

This is a non-qualifier. Its just a fun get ready for the year tournament. Takes a lot of gumption to use my thread and advertise for a different tournament. Most of you know I ran the first 4 tournaments at Bayland and put out the adveritsement for the 5th. A bit tacky I must say. Happy Holidays all and see you in the new year.

Discussion: A different DOB structure

Let me get this straight. A ball up the middle with a runner on first. No play made . Double play. omg What has softball come to? Someone is ruining this game. I for one will check with a TD before going to any tournament and if they have such a stupid rule as this, my team isn't traveling or at least I am not. I would hope many others would feel the same way. I can stay in Houston, run local tournaments and enjoy the game the way its suppose to be played. Sorry, guys, this one is burning a hole in me. Just tired of all this up the middle stuff. TD, just let me know what the rules are and I/my team will decide to come or not. Thats probably the best way to handle it.
Just my 2 cents.

Discussion: Up the Middle

Pitchers don't remember? wow. A pitcher who doesn't have a good memory should be doing something else. Plus, just expect it up the middle everytime. If I play a new team once, I'll remember where a guy likes to hit. Your not going to be right 100% of the time, but a good/smart pitcher remembers batters preferences.
PS May I never see a screen placed on the infield in softball. Everyone have a great time wherever your playing the rest of the year.

Discussion: BAN THE ULTRA

My first home run, out ot the park, 300 foot fence, was with a DeMarini 28 oz. Don't need an Ultra 2, but until everyone stops using them, have to keep up with the Jones's. Anyone have an original DeMarinni for sale?
PS A ball off a DeMarini will get to the pitcher just about as fast as a Ultra 2. We use whats legal.

Discussion: Pitcher Protection Rule

We've been over this one so many times. Pitch and take your chances. If your not happy with that, don't pitch. Since being in senior softball, I have pitched against every dvision possible. Ya, even when I play 2A, we played major plus teams and still do now in 3A. I don't need a rule to protect me. I do that. I don't need a screen.(Might as well put a dress on me also). Lets put this to rest. If a solution hasn't been found by now, there isn't one. The lighting problems is more of a problem. Balls in the sun? Balls in badly lite fields? Balls of the bat where the background is not helpful to a pitcher. These are important.
Just my 2cents.
