Discussion: Scandinavian Tournament Results

I wanted to post the recent Scandinavian Tournament results. Final standings. All USA and Scandinavian players and family members were the winners in this exciting three country tournament. The host teams and families made us feel welcome and like real champions. Great sportsmanship, comaraderie and friendships were the end result of this three day competition. Thank you Terry, Ross, Dennis and Annie for putting together this excellent competition with teams from Denmark, Sweden and Norway. I would highly encourage any and all players to take advantage of the fun International tours offered by SSUSA. Thank you for a fun trip. Kevin

Discussion: Team Ratings - A Restart?

I have a simple question. If each team is required to register and/or re-register every year, than why not wipe the slate clean and only list the teams when they register? I agree that listing teams from four or even three years back gives us an inflated and unrealistic number of teams in each division. Teams obviously should not be allowed to participate in tournaments if they have not registered. By eliminating old teams, this would give us a realistic number of teams that are eligible to play.

Discussion: SAN DIEGO TOURNAMENT IN JUNE

Paul, glad to hear you guys are coming to Camp Pendleton. Hopefully we can encourage some of the other 50+ AAA teams to come down for a good competitive tournament like the Spring Worlds in Palm Springs. I know CJ &S Express and Full Count have traveled to San Diego in the past to play in this tournament, hopefully they will do so again. Good luck in Claremont.

Hey DUKE, I received a phone call from the Valleywide Recreation staff regarding the bracket for the 50+ AAA division. I'm sure if you give them a call at (951) 672-6744, they'll be able to answer any question you may have. Vince and his staff are more than accommidating.

The SSUSA staff have already made the correction on the TOC article dated December 1st, but there is a correction to be noted in this post. Under the 50+ AAA team listings, the correct name is Top Gun III not Top Gun 50's. The other Top Gun 50's team is a major rated team. See you in Florida.

Discussion: Injury at the Winter Worlds

After reading all of the encouraging responses from teams and players regarding the injury to a very valuable member of the Vancouver Merchants family, it makes me proud to be a part of such a fantastic organization. I too am glad for the speedy recovery of Herman and look forward to playing against him in future tournaments.
BTW...the fields at Cheyenne were well maintained throughout the day by staff and volunteers of the North Las Vegas Recreation Department. Thank you for your efforts.
On a side note, I would try not to schedule games on field #1 at Lorenzi field. Having four light poles at about 270' from home plate makes it tricky for outfielders to play.

Discussion: Looking for a 50's team in Cordova, TN

After reading this message, I felt compelled to add my two cents. If you are looking for a team player with a lot of talent, I would highly recommend picking up Clyde for your team. Make sure there is a Dairy Queen nearby your tournament site. Good luck Point in finding a team. To bad Tennessee doesn't border California. p.s. Clyde... say Hi to Pam

Discussion: Seattle

Just to weigh in on this topic, I enjoyed the weather and the playing conditions in Seattle. I have played in Las Vegas, Reno and Phoenix in 100+ degree weather only to find teams and players jeopardizing their health by playing in such extreme heat. I play in the 50+ division and have seen players suffer with heat related health issues when competing in the heat of the day. I can only imagine the toll the weather might take on the older divisions. Why wouldn't we want the best competition in the best climate? I agree that nothing compares to the amenties offered in Las Vegas or Reno, but I would sacrafice those amenities to play in the best conditions possible. I would also submit that I have not played in the high humidity of the eastern seaboard, but I have heard that the humidity can also present some serious health issues. Making money is one thing, but keeping in mind the health of the players is paramount in my mind.

Hey docnorm. I'm sure there are lots of good, competitive AAA teams in SoCal looking for good hitters, good speed, and a team player. I'm not sure what your plans are for 2006, but good luck in whatever direction you choose.

Discussion: NO RESTRICTIONS FOR MAJOR + TEAMS

After playing this past weekend in the 50+ Major Plus Division, I have one observation. The Major Plus teams in any age group are the best of the best. Of the 32 teams listed in the 50+ age group, only seven teams competed in the Worlds. Both Top Gun and Pilchers were transplants from the Major Division last year. All of the other Major+ teams have long standing tradition in senior softball. As a member of Top Gun, we tried to hold our own, but to no avail. My thought for what it is worth, let the Major+ teams be the best of the best. Open up the boundaries and let teams select players from all over the country. Let them use the Ultra II and play with the hot ball, unlimited home runs, and unlimited runs per inning. That will be the true test to find the best Major+ team in the country. Less than 25% of the total Magor+ teams cometed in the 50+. Maybe realistically there are only a handful of Major+ teams in the country. Let the sponsors put together the best teams that money can buy. For me, I liked the opportunity to play Major+ and see how our team measured up. Reality was that the Major+ teams acrossed the board are better than a transplant Major team. I look forward to 2006 and competing at whatever level our team is rated at. Discussion: LVSSA 50 Results

I would like to add my congratulation to Pine Knob for their victory in the 50 Major + division. Also I would like to congratulate the Las Vegas All Stars for fighting back and finishing second place. My team (Top Gun II) had a chance to play both of the teams and I can appreciate their talent and sportsmanship. There is a big difference between Major and Major + teams. Sponsored teams with the resources available to attract top rated players definately have an edge. I look forward to Phoenix and playing against the best. Good luck to all of you in Phoenix.

Discussion: Team Ratings

DMAC..after reading your post, I agree a rating system is in order. I congratulate you on taking a stab at trying to find a plausable solution. However, my question to you would be, what characteristics would define a Major + player; a Major player; etc. Just playing on a Major + team does not mean that you are a Major + caliber player. My team is rated Major +, however there are only 2 to 3 players that can consistently hit homeruns on any field. The rest of us are place hitters. We are not a power team by any stretch of the imagination, but we play consistent defense and can string a few hits in a row. We were bumped to Major + after having one very successful tournament, the World's. Does that mean that we are automatically a Major + caliber team? As you indicated in regards to your team that you will be competitive in Majors, so will we in Major + division. I like your shot at coming up with a rating system and I hope it doesn't end here. See you in SoCal.
