Discussion: Double Play - Does run score?

Bear.. the run does count per Staffs explanation.. the runner called out at 1B was also considered a timing play because he wasn't forced to advance and the ball beat him back to the bag for not tagging up properly on the caught fly ball.. the only time there can be a true force out is on a batted ball where the runner MUST vacate the bag

Discussion: Batters Box Rule Change

i don't think this rule change makes it anymore difficult of a call from an umpires standpoint than the old version.. the key here is the wording when the batter actually hits the ball(makes contact) it has nothing to do with his follow thru.. I do think it could be a problem for slap hitters who tend to shift their stance to go to the opposite field

Discussion: Batters Box Rule Change

E-V.. the way I read the rule is that the back foot cannot be COMPLETELY forward of the front edge of the strike mat/plate when "CONTACT" is being made with the ball.. so then if in the batters follow thru of the swing his foot moves forward of the line I would still have a legal at bat..

what I don't like about the new rule is the wording they say when he hits the ball and no reference about follow thru

Discussion: Runner advances to what base?

BillC48.. 1st scenario .. the award was correct 2 bases from time of pitch.. the only time runners would be awarded more is if "ALL" runners had advanced at least 1 base before the 1st throw then the award would be on the position of the runners at the time of the throw

2nd scenario.. No Rule 8.4 (10) E2 would apply since a play had been made .. when a throw is made by an outfielder or is the result of any SUCCEEDING PLAY or attempted play, the two base award shall be
governed by the position of each runner and the last base he has touched at the time the throw was made.

Donna, yes I remember there were a few changes and that was proably DD's fault (lol)

I also just went back and don't remember the 50CL in 2013/14

2011/12 CL 45'-- 65' base path
2013/14 CL 50'-- 70'BP
2015/16 to present day CL 40'-- 70'BP

i hate to disagree with Donna and I made sure looking it up in an old 2011/12 rule book.. with 65' bases the CL was 45' from 3rd base

Discussion: Batters Box & Batting Position

batters that like to slap the ball to the opposite field will have to be careful and possibly position their rear foot deeper back in the box because many like to step forward and a little sideways when they hit the ball

Discussion: What's the rile

the main reason the defense should let a fly ball drop to the ground anywhere in FOUL territory when the batter has 2 strikes and no foul to waste is that it's a live ball and if there are runners on base they can advance after the catch

Dbax.. yes, even if you have a foul to waste, a caught foul ball is an out ..

a caught foul tip is only an out if the batter has 2 strikes and DOESN'T have a foul to waste

No… Once a runner has crossed the commitment line he may not return to third.. if he re-crosses the line going back to third he should be called out immediately

how can the batter have 1 to waste if he already has 2 strikes UNLESS you are starting with a 1&1 count then they give you 1 to waste ?? a normal 4 balls/3strike count a batter would not get 1 to waste after having 2 strikes

hitnrun5.. 1 other thing.. this may be a local league rule where the batter starts with a 1&1 count
