I agree. I got three years out of mine and several thousand swings before it finally broke.

Discussion: Just had complete hip replacement.

I had mine done robotically. I have no restrictions except for lifting anything over 50 lbs. Due to the limited range of motion that a bad hip has, the muscles associated with the hip and lower back also lose range of motion and flexibility. They also atrophy. The PT that I have been given is all about regaining strength and flexibility in the hip flexor, buttocks, upper thigh and lower back. I've also got to work on my core area.

Discussion: Just had complete hip replacement.

I quit playing senior softball about 2 years ago. Just too painful. Monday I had a complete hip replacement done by Dr. Jimmy Chow in Phoenix AZ. If you or anyone you know need hip or knee replacement, this is the only Doc I would call. He is one of only 10 docs in the US that does it using the Super Path method. It's as non-invasive as you can get. They come in at the side of your upper thigh right at the hip joint. No cutting of muscle, ligaments, tendons, nerves and the like. I used a walker to help me get around for 2 days. I have been walking on my own since Thursday. No limp, no pain, normal gait. It's astounding. I was actually able to get in about 4 hours mall therapy shopping with my wife yesterday. Onward and upward.

I have lost the nails on both big toes too many times to count. In my case it was always from running to a base and stopping very quickly, driving the toe into the end of the shoe. My sliding days are over. I found that mesh turf shoes stopped that. More give at the end of the shoe. Also, keeping the nails cut short helps.

Mad Dog, sorry to hear about the theft. That would be about $40,000 worth of bats. Keep an eye on E-Bay and Craig's list Phoenix.

WOW !!! What was supposed to be a link to a fun game has turned into a clash of personalities, just like almost every post on this site does. Sad, sad, sad. A very dysfunctional bunch.

Just a little fun here. I've become addicted to the Miken Sports HR Derby game. Does anyone else play this game?
My best score is 4309 and longest HR is 677 feet. GO to www.mikensports and click on the HR Derby.

Discussion: Baden renegade senior bat, Bass Crippler bat

I've hit with the Baden. The ax handle grip is actually very comfortable and natural feeling. After about 100 swings, the bat still feels a stiff but if it breaks in it should be a real good bat.

It looks like the weather is finally starting to cooperate. They are not allowing any practice on Merkel. It should be in great shape in May.

Hey GQ. Good luck in your recruiting efforts. Can't wait to see the team play in Spokane at the Qualifier on May 14th and 15th.

Thanks Lefty. I got a great little hotel onboard today. It's a small boutique hotel right in downtown Spokane. www.hotelrubyspokane.com. Most of the rooms are a single queen bed at $60 per night. A suite can be had for about $15 more. These should go fast. Just call and ask for the senior softball rate. I will have info on 2 other hotels in a day or so. We are planning some fun events at this tourney.

Do any of you have recommendations for website programs to use for our league? Hopefully free or almost free programs.

Discussion: TIME TO EXTEND TIME LIMITS

This is from the 2005 Senior Softball Summit meeting:

Recommend: that the 1-1 count with a courtesy foul be used by all organizations.

Summit Response: Most organizations do not use the 1-1 count because of widespread complaints from players. Tests have shown that it only saves 2 or 3 minutes per game.

Dirty, you are absolutely right but I think you will agree that for most umpires, especially in rec leagues, this is a tough call to make given the condition of the box, lack of lines, lack of umpiring experience, etc. I rarely see the call made at all.

Just my opinion but I feel that the only time a batter should be called out for a batters box violation while swinging is when the batter steps on the plate (or mat), steps directly in front of the plate, or runs out of the box if running up to hit a pitch.
