Discussion: benefit

Recently I posted a messege asking other teams/leagues
to consider sponsoring benefit tournaments to aid their
local food banks. As everyone knows the Houston area
was recently hit hard by hurricane IKE, as a result the
local food bank shelves had been depleted. As it was
we had already planed a benefit tournament for The
Houston Food Bank this past weekend. IT WAS a great
sucess!!!! We sent over 2000 lbs. of food and $1500.
in cash to help those in need. In addition to the 12
teams involved in the tournament, we played a game
against a celebrity team of ex-NBA players and local
celebs. In addition a game was played against men
from the local Open Door Mission, what a great time
these men had. Seniors vs. Hunger could become a nation
wide effort supported by the great group that we all
represent. Think about it guys!

Discussion: BENEFIT TOURNAMENT

Hey guys, my name is Bill Wilson, I'm the manager of
Christian Brothers 60+AAA team out of Houston.
We are going to be sponsoring a tournament in Houston
to benefit The Houston Food Bank this October 4th.
The real purpose of this note is not to look for teams to
come to this tournament, BUT to suggest that this might
be something worthwile for other teams to consider
doing in their area. We are calling this event Seniors vs. Hunger. We are able to get news paper & radio coverage from a Christian radio station. In addition we are going
to have a celebrity softball game. We are asking teams
to contribute a bag of groceries and\or $15. per player
to go directly to the Food Bank. Local business is helping
to cover cost of putting this event on.
Wouldn't it be great if we were able to get this going
"NATIONWIDE". (in addition to getting the word out
about senior softball). If anyone has any questions
you can contact me at billandcathy9687@sbcglobal.net
(special thanks to TEXAS HALF CENTURY for their
envolement)
Let me know what you think!

Discussion: Team Coaches Get No Respect

AMEN ENVIRO, as manager I feel it is as important about
people as it is about winning. We all want to win, but
we have asked our team to invest the time and expense
to go to these tournaments and are bound by our own
conscious to balance our desire to win against being
fair to all. On the other hand if a player is struggling
he should be willing to say so and volunteer to sit
for the good of the team. No one every said it would
be easy, otherwise everyone would be lined-up to
take the job over.

Discussion: Who will be in Irving?

LL, that was a little tongue'n cheek comment. I don't
expect anymore than the same teams we see every
year in these texas tournaments. Maybe due to the
previous popularity of the Baytown bbq blast we will
see some out of state teams.

Received email from Frank last week, at that time
had 6 teams in 60+ and thought there would be
additional teams. He did not indicate team
classification, may be all major & major+
and our little aa team

Discussion: Tourney Scheduling

A subject dear to my heart. For the past 2 years I have been asking the question, 2day tournament, friday &
saturday. At 60+ I still work & plan to for awhile longer.
Vacation days are a premium, If fields are a issue,
find more fields or larger complexes. By the same
token. don't stretch a 2 day tournament into 3, or
3 day into 4 to justify economic commitments from
the cities.

Discussion: MOVING TO TEXAS

Several weeks ago someone moving from NJ to Houston
Texas ask for information. There were several
responses but "NJ" has not contacted anyone.
If you are still interested, we have a very good senior
league here. You can respond via this thread or
you can contact me direct during the day at 2813709191,
or after 6pm at 7133067967. Great league, great fields,
great group of seniors.

Discussion: Rule changes - where are all the Major Plus players opinions?

Just a thought, if there are teams out there that win everything in major plus and have no where to move. What about the possibility for example of the 55major+ team moving the next year to 50major level & so on??

Discussion: let more teams in t.o.c.

our team won winter worlds last year, did not go last year
because only 1 other team in our bracket was attending.
should we get a invite this year, not our fault there was
not enough teams to play against. we were told we
would have five games, but championship would be
between 2 teams.
