Discussion: Senior bats and Lively Balls?

I pitch for my Over 40 team PTV (#33)...We played in Reno this past weekend and let me tell you I avoided serious injury several times on some missiles that were hit back at me. I pitch very defensively (I take 3 steps back and square my body after I release the pitch)and I still had little or none reaction time on balls coming back up the middle. And for them to get rid of the "no hit middle" rule the mask and shin guard rule is a joke. Luckily I still have very fast reflexes and was able to put a glove on and protect myself on all those missiles (bruised 2 bones in my glove hand). They need to change the rules for the 40's division at a minimum. Use a different ball or ban the Ultra II's and Combats...In the 5 games we played on Saturday, every team used all 8 of their home runs, and these balls weren't just clearing the fences, these were 450 ft bombs. If you think there aren't any altered bats being swung you are naive....

Discussion: Prescription Eye Glasses Versus No Glasses

I have Oakley Prescription sunglasses. The lenses are transition lenses and they get pretty dark when in sunlight. I wouldn't play without them. I recommend not getting any anti-glare coating on them because all they do is get scratched. They were a little pricey ($450)but I am worth it....lol

Bob 50...excellent posting of the PSR....I was clearly inside the box and struck....it was a no brainer...don't the umpires know this rule and when it applies? I saw lots of confusion on umpires faces when shots were going back up the middle...

I pitched in the 40 Masters division for my Team PTV...in our 1st single elimination game on Sunday morning I took a bullet one hopper off my right shin just above my ankle while in the box....it was Not ruled a DBO...even though I clearly tried to just defend myself...I collected myself and made the put out at 1st to end the inning. The ball was hit hard enough to give me a grapefruit sized swelling and bruised immediately....I remained in the game and iced it in between innings. Upires didn't even see if I was alright...

The umpiring was ok during the entire event....just wish they would have stuck with the correct interpretations of the rules for all the games...just not a select few..
