Discussion: Gekle Builders 50 M+

I would like to take this opportunity to announce to all my friends, peers and aquaintances that I have met, played against over the last five years that I will be stepping aside as manager of Gekle Builders.People like Wood,Einstein,Stoneman,Clatta,Ray Ray,Larry on and on.And a spiecal thanks to Fran Dowell,Senior Softball is in good hands with Fran.Gekle team will carry on under new and more capable management. For all the skill I lacked as a coach I tried to make up with persistance and at this point and time, with mounting cost and politics and travel at this level (not a good flyer) I think it's time for me to step aside..I would like to thank SSUSA for a graet time. Also a shout out of thanks to all former and present players for all thier loyalty and friendship.Gekle will be participating in Winter Nats.in Ft. Meyers and is under reconstruction for 2010.

Thanks and Good Luck to all.

Joe,nice to see you again this past week end.We didn't have our best week end.Doing a little re-tooling for 2010,trying to put something together for FT. Meyers Nov. 13-15.With some new blood.Waiting to hear if there are any M+ teams going.Keep up the good fight,I don't see many of your critics at the big tourneys playing at the highest level but I haven't been to a single M+ 50's World or National this year without seeing you there competeing on a compititive M+ team that says a lot.

See Ya Soon

DoubleL10 my point exactly. You didn't like the equipment so you didn't go.It's that easy.We played there with ASA stuff and this year with Senior stuff.Had great time both formats.

Hey Wood,Your point on accountability is right on.It seems to me that if players or teams have a problem with the balls and bats at a particular tournament, that they would not attend this event. Is it the combination of bats and balls that attract them or is this keeping players away?example:ISF and ISSA until this year used ASA equipment with low draw to some very nice tournaments. This year nice draw to these same tournaments, with senior bat and ball combo's introduced and it was used on web messages and tournament title page as a draw.So i'm sure Assn's will follow the money. To get your point accross don't show up where equipment you don't like is being used.If enough people stop coming than change will happen.Or is there a vocal few who really care and the rest just want to play ball?IMO we will play with whats allowed would not cancel event with either combonation of ASA or Senior equipment.Do whats best for your weell-being.Most participants know what equipment is being used prior to entering. Not really anything to argue about. These threads are just peoples opinions'have nothing to do with SSUSA's directions or concerns.I'm sure they will do whats best for all to keep Seniors having fun.

Won the M+ Div. Midwest tourney.Got nice Miken travel bags for individual awards. After one use seam improperly sew'd split out stuff falling out of bottom of bag.Sent bag back to Miken would not replace without receipt(14.00 shipping) as much as it cost to play in these tourneys you would think it would be a no-brainer for Miken. We buy 25-30 U 2's a year. Not the case just a heads up,don't waste your money trying to get a Miken product replaced

Agree Don,just don't know how the lower end Major teams would compete or have much fun?I could be way off on this.Just going on what I've seen so far as M+.(freshman year)Although I did see were you mentioned these teams dropping down to AAA.Don do you play with EVO.

Stay Well

Vennie you know I'm not a Windy City hater to the contrary,I 'm a lover.I was using you guys as and example as to the inadequcies of the system and really tryig to point out some of the inconsistencies in the rating system.you guys going up and down every other year is not a solution.
Vinnie hell I like you guys so much I'm trying to get us moved down to M so we can play each other again.LOL
Vinnie read my post again I believe it says that the prob. is with the PROCESS.Not hating on ya bro I think you guys are the model of M with a good blend of Hitting, speed, defense and power. We basicly had to desmantle our team to compete @ M+ don't blame ya for not wanting to do that.
Peace Out Vin,
See in Phoenix

Don,I hear ya but combing M+ and M will never work.We were a major team last year forced up this year for all the same reasons Windy City got moved up.We didn't win as much as they did.Windy City by far the best Major team over the last three years minus 08.You take the best M team put them in M+ they will not compete without serious roster changes. There is a gap.A large gap.WE have had to play many M teams this year spotting them 5 runs and 5 hrs than outs.It did not equal the playing field,it helped but did not get any of these teams over the top.We have lost three tourneys to the Mavericks this year.Won a couple that they weren't there.Like to play major again more teams less traveling.
While in M we never beat Windy City.Think I got a case.

Well Joe when you win every tournament you play for a couple years that might put a target on your back or set the standard that other M+ teams must achieve to compete. We are a first year M+ team as you know,so it's been a good lesson for us.I think we are heading in the right direction(right at'em )instead of playing were there not.We will have seen them in 4 tourneys by seasons end and those are the games that we base our progress on.Mavs are the model for 50 M+ any World Championship in 50 M+ will have to include beating the champs (Mavs)or it doesn't mean squat.Great team ran by a committed and determined coach.See ya in PHX.

Yea Joe were coming, look forward another shot at Mavs and always good to see you and Clatta,Wood and the rest.We thought we could hang with Mavs under that format.Lot of fun, could play them all like that.Hoe did you guys do Joe did I see you in the Finals on the other field? What a bunch of good guys running that tourney. We have 3 new player (49)for winter nats. should help us next year.
Stay well my friend see you in Phoenix. We have to eat a little more corn before we get to Phoenix.LOL Get the herd ready to hit.

yea were done, unfortunatly a little to soon.Ran out of out fielders Sunday finals.Scored 156 runs Sunday in three games, hit 111 HRS over seven games with team batting average of .767 all for second place. That should be an indicator of what it,s going to take to win this tourney for 50 M+ teams.I think we are all playing for second place to the Mavs. See ya in Phoenix?
