Discussion: effect of interference call by umpire

It is not interference, if the fielder starts to throw and then stops because an offensive player is in his way. Also, interference on a thrown ball, or throw attempt, or tag attempt, must be intentional.

Yankee Dog, my 65AAA team most likely will need and outfielder for Reno. I see you say you play anywhere, but what position do you normally play? We are Scrap Iron Phiten. fox8585@aol.com

Discussion: Pitcher Protection Rule

I see every thing in here being responded by the 40+ director, but seems not clear. How about ground ball that the pitcher trys to field and hits his/her glove? Is the batter out? Also, without a chalk line around the box, how can the umpire even know if in the box or not? The arm seems to be an issue, but if the pitcher reaches outside the box, isn't that a live ball even if it hits his arm? As someone said, what pitcher is dumb enough to just stand there and not try to catch the ball! I'm not sure the umpires we had knew the rule let alone the pitchers. One up call a dead ball and the pitcher was about at 2nd when it went off his glove. That would seem right. Maybe you have to go to a screen, but with the AA and even AAA teams, I'm not sure that is fair. Pitchers normally know when they make a mistake and it's coming back since I don't think most hitters ever try to hit the pitcher.

Discussion: NIght games in Phoenix 60 AAA

I agree with sossteve, we should not be playing night games. You put in a rule to protect pitchers, but with night games that won't work and the infielders are exposed. Also, it takes away from the game as most seniors never play night games and can't adjust. It was especially bad for the 6:30 games. Someone is going to get hurt and I'm not sure that insurance will prevent a suit as it's a big exposure for all players in the infield.

The solution is to go back to 4 days when you have that many teams in a div. By now you have had 2-3 years of history to be able to project how many teams usually are in a bracket and can easily give the teams enough notice to be able to play for 3 or 4 based on the div.

Discussion: Vote on Changing SSWC Format!!!!!!!!

I would go with the 3 day format even though it would mean some teams would be eliminated on Sat. if the brackets have 12 or more teams other wise it would probably run late on Sun. I would suspect this would save SSWC money as well as the teams enter fees. Also, saves players on hotel costs, so I think that is the way to go.

Discussion: players playing down

It would appear Mad Dog and Pete D think once a player has been on a higher div. team they must only play at that level even if their skills don't fit. Maybe there should have watched the AA games, especially on the 285 foot fenced fields and counted the homer runs, and also noticed the scores of the team that won this time, 1 run games. Also, maybe they should look at some of the other tournaments this team played in SSUSA and SPA. Sometimes a team jells at the right time.
