| Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: PLEASE tg69: If you are married, the only last word that you have is when you crow.........................outside the house when the hen is NOT present...............just like the rest of us MARRIED guys!!!! Just a joke LOL!!! Merry Christmas Tater50 |
| Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Hope You Have a Blessed Holy Day and Holidays Right there with you SouthPaw; Christ the reason for the season. To all the Senior Players: have a blessed family holiday!! Tater50 |
| Dec. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Rules of the Game-Love them Gary: "over the years to best serve the MAJORITY" I have only seen one Player Poll. So, I cannot agree w/your statement. The ONLY way that a "MAJORITY" can be obtained is by a Yearly Player Poll or Occasional Player Poll. When I state Player Poll: those that ACTUALLY attend these tourneys; if you are not on a valid roster & have participated; your input is do-diddly squat!!! I have played for 12 years & have not seen more than one Player Poll. The Majority never vote on the ideas. I have yet to get an answer as to why we have to have a Yearly Summit Meeting instead of a Yearly Player Poll. Is it due to: 1. Cost 2. Time 3. Other. Until we get a Player Poll; the Majority never speaks. What I want MAY not be what the majority wants. JMO Tater50 |
| Dec. 17, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Do you guys thank.... Gary19: NEED to take a look in the mirror, look at your awesome family; what you all have accomplished; what you have & where we live & take a "thank you, please, you're welcome" pill. You are OFF base & are looking at the world thru obscurity!! I believe you will mellow some!! I have been married 37 years; have 2 children; I do NOT let a chance go by, whether in person or on the phone to let my wife & children know that I love them. Repetitious: yes, but sincere!!! I also tell them thank you, please pass the food or whatever. I also say thanks when I go out to eat cause that waiter/waitress is doing one of the hardest jobs in the world (was in restaurant business for 27 years); putting a product on the tabel that they did not cook, but they are suppose to convince you that you are putting the best food in the world in your stomach, that it is clean & not ruined. Nothing like selling tires or any other product!! If you do not do that at home or wherever, try it for a week & your world will change; soon it will be second nature. IMO: you are OFF base on this one. Tater50 My ID has been on the board for years. |
| Dec. 17, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Fortunate Expounded Steve65 brought up a great topic. Let's take this scenario: NO SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATIONS PERIOD!!!!! What would you do to replace this void? Myself; I have a very hard time during the winter cause I am not playing; so I have to pour my extra time into working on my farm; I like it, but do not LOVE it like I do playing SSball. (I do not like to play SB in the COLD) I have had several knee operations & 2 blood clots that left me inop or partially inop for the season: I had a TOUGH time. If we were talking about ANY other sport, I'd have NO problem, but SSball is AWESOME; the game, the teams & the teammates. Your Thoughts Tater50 |
| Dec. 16, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Fortunate Steve65: Good One. I never got to play any sports as a kid; my parents were real religious; did not start regularly playing SB until I turned 29; so I have been playing for 32 years. At the origin; you could buy a bat & glove & it would last you for many years. SSBall: I was playing against Winky (Faith Electric) in a 1999 Ga State Tourney & he invited me to play SSBall; I told him that I did not play w/old guys. He said that I needed to try it; I might change my mind..........AWESOME choice. Just a few of the AWESOME things about SSBall: 1. In 12 years, I do not think that I have seen any major confrontations between players or teams. 2. Its MORE fun & less stressful: guys actually show up for the tourney & you do not have to pull them out of jail to complete a team roster. 3. Competition is beyond my imagination; Seniors know what they want & train accordingly. 4. Incredible Friendships: see some of the same faces that I saw in 99. Downside: you have to wait till spring to start playing again & seeing your team mates. WE ARE FORTUNATE!!!! Thanks Lord!! Tater50 |
| Dec. 15, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: CR Wouldn't a YEARLY PLAYER POLL, not a Summit Meeting, rectify a lot of these reoccuring threads on this board? But there again: guys wouldn't be able to spend 2+ hours on this site debating. I still cannot get a definitive answer as to why a YPP can't be administered. 1. Too Expensive!! 2. Too Time consuming!! 3. Other!! BTW: Cr's are needed due to injuries; but a YPP would determine what the Majority thinks. YPP should be to those that actually "attend & spend megabucks & take off from their jobs" for these tourneys; that can be determined by the team's rosters. Tater50 |
| Nov. 17, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: California/Florida Bordering rules Pushin60:"500 senior teams in California? " Sorry; did not mean tourney teams. I was leaning on my frail memory. I only know of about 10 Senior Teams in Ga & that includes tourney teams; probably are more. JMO: I'd think that Ca & Fla would have many more than 200 senior teams statewide. Anyone have a more accurate figure? Tater50 |
| Nov. 16, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: California/Florida Bordering rules Gary19: I am leaning on my frail memory; but I think Florida has 500+ senior teams (I am sure that is covered mainly by the FHC teams); someone correct me if I am wrong. I imagine Ca has more than that. I am from Ga & I'd say there are less than 10 Ga based teams that play SSb. I only know of 2 (Hobgood & Tolleson Pk) that have Senior Leagues; probably more , but that's all I know of. Warner Robins had a small senior league a few years back, but I do not know about the present. Tater50 |
| Nov. 13, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Questions 3rdbase: great point; when my daughter played Basketball in HS & College; everyone used a mouthguard. When she played SB in HS she used a mouthguard. So did my son when he played BB. I also notice that BB catchers use all sorts of protection even though they may go many games w/o a ball nicking them. Errant bounces or whatever can result in severe results. I will NEVER say anything to anyone who protects themself, even if they look like Darth Vader. Tater50 |
| Nov. 9, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Christmas Tradition Brett: good one!!! My family has cut back big time on spending & we are cutting back on the Christmas presents this year; including travel; trying to save more on petro consumption. Before last election (state); I eeeeed ALL my congressman asking them their position on 4 critical items (IMO) that really effect the USA. I told them if I did not receive supportive answers, I would vote against them. 1. Drilling into our own Oil reserves 2. Illegal Immigration 3. USA Welfare abuse 4. Foreign Welfare Abuse (Nations that love us when they want the handouts or when a castastrophe hits, but 6 months later, after sanity has been restored, they start slinging cow poop on us.) I received NO answers & my whole family voted against them. I will continue to lobby them on these issues, but now that you guys have opened up my eyes to other issues, will add those to my list. | Nov. 5, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Dislike the Cold 1981 Rain Storm: playing in Marietta, Ga; team had us beat by 10 runs top of the 5th; we were @ bat & the Big Bucket Dropped & was covering everything; "no lightning". We wanted to call the game & start the next day & so did the ump; the other team protested vehemently, so we got together & told the coach (who was dry in the dugout); :If we win, you've got to slide head first into home after the game. We beat them by 10 in the bottom of the 5th & we got our wish; head first slide by the coach; the good old days when we did not have as much in the upper portion of the body. Tater50 |
| Nov. 2, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Dislike the Cold Am I the only bird that does not like to play in the cold; I mean below 50. I never complain about the heat, but I just dislike the cold. I guess it goes back to getting injured in a cold weather tourney in Feb. many years ago. Pros & Cons Tater50 IMO: God gives me 24 hrs.; what am I going to do with it!!! |
| Nov. 2, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: MYRTLE BEACH FIASCO!!!!!!!! SPA Ridge: I think that he has had some health issues in the past, but I feel as others; if you give the proper feedback showing your discontent on a subject, then the right results will occur, because products get better as the customer replies on the use. Years ago, the snowbird rule got pulled on our team in the SPA Plano tourney; according to the then rules, it was a FIASCO, but thru proper GENTLEMANLY feedback, I instituted a MASS EEEEE to SPA & got the rule changed for the better, the past 2 problems are best rectified, if MASS EEEE's are sent in a proper fashion showing each player's discontent. I am sure it will be corrected by the next tourney. Tater50 |
| Nov. 2, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Associations Discussion: SPA Question???? Jawood: don't think that is a good idea; I like SSUSA very much, but we need more than 1 org. I have attended many SPA tourneys over the past 12 years & this is just a glitch @ MB. At Pensy, everyone in the Park knew that the rosters of the 2 teams in question were Major or above, but before the tourney ended, it was corrected. Most ALL players know the CLASS ID of another player if he has been playing for any length of time. I, for one, am for a data base that is @ every tourney, then every player's ID classification is known. Also, at every "renewal", your NEW ID number will be followed by AA, AAA, M or M+, so when the roster is filled in, there is NO doubt what class you play. Even at present, every player's class can be ID'd & players will have to add their class @ the end of their number until their renewed cards come. Tater50 PS Still Need a Yearly Player Poll for other questions that we frequently talk about on this board in reference to ALL organizations. |
| Nov. 1, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: MYRTLE BEACH FIASCO!!!!!!!! SPA Don Ward: great post!!! I did not attend due to work, but sounds like the glitches occurred & caught everyone off guard; Know that SPA will straighten it out. Tater50 PS I am not on any board of SPA & never have been, but things can happen & I believe that Ridge & the crew will iron out the wrinkles.........give them a chance. |
| Nov. 1, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: MYRTLE BEACH FIASCO!!!!!!!! SPA GaCMan: sorry for the problems that you had; know that you will continue to play SPA. SoftballerK1 & mc4softball: I know that this is not fun to attend when things go wrong; but hope that you reconsider cause we need ALL Senior associations & SPA/Ridge has done a great job in the past. Hope you will give him time to make the corrections & adjustments; know he will do the right thing & have everything staightened out in 2012. The gentleman Mike D. is a great honorable person & I am sure there were some glitches that showed their faces that were unable to correct on short notice. Tater50 |
| Oct. 30, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: MYRTLE BEACH FIASCO!!!!!!!! SPA GaCMan: does the roster that you use in MB count against you for 2012 or is this tourney consider a non-qualifier? Tater50 Just a thought!! |
| Oct. 30, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Questions 17Black: great observations & comments. My thoughts are that you need to protect yourself; most people scoffed when seatbelts were introduced & I had a relative that never would wear one, thought it took away from his masculinity; but now it is the law. Think the law had a lot to do w/insurance companies, but the commercials are depicting that it saves lives, in that it does. When I use a grass trimmer, the odds of something deflecting into my eyes are rare, but possible. I use safety glasses ALL the time & a glove on my left hand & wear long sleeves, because the line will deflect small particles that zoom like a rocket. Once in a while one hits my glasses & I think, could have damaged my eye. Just like SBall: a pitcher or IFielder may never field a ball that takes an errant bounce, but there again, the odds are that one day it will. A SS friend on mine on another team got hit up side the head on an awkward bounce & he is a very good fielder; next round & thereafter...............face mask. It only takes OOOONNNNEEE!! Tater50 |
| Oct. 27, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Questions Another angle to the questions: Did you encourage your athletic children to use safety equipment? Or your grandchildren? I positively did when my son played BB & my daughter played SB & Basketball in HS & college. One chipped tooth or one errant elbow can cost a lot. Wonder if the first catcher in BB used any protective equipment? If the assoc, require these protective actions; it is because the insurance companies are indicating so, to keep the premiums lower. I look at the face shield, cups, shin guards as a smart move. Only got one face & the cup, well that is self-explanatory. Gary19: that was one observation, but I did see many girls on TV in the Softball World Series FP (I think 12 & under) wearing them. Let the individual wear what they will; & yes the bats are hotter, but there are guys that can take you out w/a broom stick. Tater50 |
