| Oct. 27, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How would you feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim: I would not feel too bad it happens all the time. It is very hard to find guys that want to stay together all the time & the ones that do usually are the most competitive in SSball. You did nothing wrong: know that you feel rough due to the fact that the 3 that left probably impacted your team & you feel a personal semi-guilt for their action. I had a guy on my team in 04 that brought a friend to play, leadoff, great OFielder he told me. I started him in LO & OF & the whole tourney he was horrible; not just noobie nervousness, but just did not have it; so after about 3 games, I set him; he leaves & throws his unis in the back of one of the player's truck. My player apologized to me big time; I told him no problem; I do not think he had seen him play in a long time & his skills had greatly diminished. Tater50 PS I always say: if you have a team that stays together & have good chemistry; you'll have a great time & the wins will come. I see players that change teams almost every year & I have chnaged teams before; but I like to find a team & stick w/it. |
| Oct. 27, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Questions I see quite a few comments about pitchers wearing masks, double first base & split home plates. At Dalton this year, I saw an entire girls team that were wearing masks, so I ask a parent if this was a new rule & he indicated that; "No, just all the players are trying to protect their face cause you only have one". A little poll here: Do you care if someone wears a masks & shin protection & if you think it is whacky, do you wear a cup & mouthgard if & when you play infield? Or if you played BB as a kid or young acult, did you wear this protection? Personally: it is their body, if they want to dress up like Darth Vader, I have no problem with it cause I do not pay their bills. Also, I like dbl bases for the safety of all players & if it came to a collision on 2B, I'd divert to some degree, cause I'd not want to hurt or get hurt. BTW: In 12 years, I have seen very few collisions in senior softball @ any base. Tater50 |
| Oct. 24, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Observation Al33: I am like Rocky when Burgess Meredith was asking him how many he saw; He told him to hit the one in the middle. I thought I saw 3 post by you but wasn't sure, so I read the one in the middle. Bottom line: I play because I love the sport, do not like a lot of the rules, but I am on the inside & I will try to get a Player Poll to critique the rules. There are many ways to save @ tourneys if you need to; heck I get extra boiled eggs # breakfast & put them in the fridge till later; makes a filling snack for me. Big Lots & Dollar Gen have some deals you can snack on & save a bunch.. Heck I have eaten things out of containers that I could not pronounce the name!!! Webbie25: will ask you this question; when you went to the SSummit, how many players attended? Tater50 Let's play cause we are getting older & when we go to the malls, we see guys our age barely moving. |
| Oct. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Observation 17Black & others: As guys get older they realize they have less miles left than they have traveled; the shocks are worn out, the engine does not have the original HP or RPMs; the fuel is the same (cause most SSball players still drink beer); but everything has aged & we will never be new again. So, they have to care for themselves better than in their youth, we are wiser & workout, take more BP than we ever did; cause we are entering the 7th inning & we only have a few swings left. I play w/a team that LOVES to take BP; I never played on a team when I was young that loved BP. At tourneys; 99% of our team shows up for BP, whenever it is called. We enjoy it more now & see the importance of competing one more year. We hopefully have 24 hours today, what are we going to do with it; in saying that, I want to get outside. Tater50 |
| Oct. 23, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Observation Gary19:"Who's not playing on here?" Gary: correct me if I am wrong; but you do not play tournament ball. If you play in a league, do you play according to the old rules or do you use the present senior rules? You bring up some good points, but if you do not play SSball Tourneys, you are like the member of a church that never attends or gives money, but is constantly telling the pastor & members what needs to be changed. 1B/Home safety bases: Most all seniors are still working, so they cannot afford broken or fractured bones in a collision. We do not heal like we did as kids. Helmets: If the player wants to buy them, I don't care if they look like Darth Vader. Special bats: I did not vote for them; IMO; someone can correct me if they know better; I believe that SS Associations were told by these groups (Like Florida Half Century; just an example) that their groups as a whole would not contend in tourneys if Senior Bats were not allowed; because they were already swinging the best bat & did not want to revert back, so the Assoc saw a way to involve more teams & they brought in SBats!! CR's: they have their place, but still needs to be voted on in a Yearly Player Poll. Tater50 Better to get into the tourney scene & change it from the inside, days/years are passing Gary; come on & get in. we are not getting any younger!!! Would like to see if I can hit some of your pitching!!! |
| Oct. 20, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: courtesy runners I believe w/all the contradictions to rules: a Yearly Player Poll would answer all these thoughts; but then what would we have to churn about on this board!!!! BTW: went to the Dr & had a urine test; results? 1. You are old 2. You have bad hearing 3. You are a loudmouth 4. You can easily stretch a double into a single 5. You are fat & slow & always need a Courtesy Runner. Tater50 Remember: cry about the tournament game & all its rules; play & try to get the rules changed or complain for 5 more years & while on your cane, look back & wish you would have played!!! |
| Oct. 18, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Observation I have been reading this board for 5+ years & seeing some of the same complaints. There are many things that I do not like, that's why a Yearly Player Poll is necessary. Having said that; GaCMan I agree w/you & others; but I'd rather have played the last 12 years in SSball & enjoyed all the new friendships, wins & losses, than to have set at home complaining about SSball on my keyboard. Tater50 Play now or complain for 5 more years & watch everyone else have fun!!!! We will never get younger!!! |
| Oct. 15, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Observation Pricer: I never voted or wanted the Senior Bats; I do not recall it being put before the players; that being said; I will revert back to the metal bat or dbl wall, but I feel the majority has tasted "honey" & will not return to "Sweet N Low". I believe the FHC organization was using the Senior Bats & that filtered over; someone can correct me if I am wrong!! GI: Speaking of the Japanese; I believe during their recent crisis many searchers found huge amounts of assets & they did the unthinkable; they returned it to the rightful owners. Seems to be a class act. I wish I had the op to go play in those GWill Games. Webbie25: Your remarks about or from opposing team mates; that seems to be the case w/a lot of great teams that have been together for a while, they attract similar guys; they want to beat the other team, but never want to see anyone hurt. Pricer: to finish my input; I would love to go to the UTrip bat; our team attended the NSA Worlds in Cullman & we used a 44/400 ball w/UTrip bats & I did not see "ONE" person that was complaining (that was in the 55 bracket). Any team could have won it; NEITHER did I suspect ANY player of swinging an altered bat. Tater50 You Cannot Fool the man in the Mirror CR Needed: slow, fat, but NOT lazy, just born a St. Bernard. |
| Oct. 14, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: reebok vis a vis ultra....a year later udaplayer: I have an ASA stamped 30 oz U2 that has lasted since 07; I swing fairly hard, but have never used it in weather below 60. Have not tried the Reebok yet, since several guys on our team have broken theirs. Tater50 |
| Oct. 14, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Anyone else swing utrip bats? Thanks Bruce |
| Oct. 14, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Anyone else swing utrip bats? Bruce: I have a Miken 585 that I've had for 3+ years; I swing it continually in BP; I need to check the distance, but I believe it is comparable to the U2. Will check & give a feedback; but it is a tank. I had a 510 that I had since 07', bought 2 NIW off of Ebay & I broke one @ BP (about 55 degrees) trying to give a good representation to the Columbus 55 team that picked me up. Should have used my 585. Anyone that has a 30 oz Miken 585 FS (stock) LMK. Tater50 |
| Oct. 11, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: ON MY HONOR 3 saddlebrookrick: It is amazing that guys will play w/someone who is a known cheater; I WOULD WALK OUT OF A NATIONAL TOURNEY IF A KNOWN CHEATER DOES NOT PUT HIS BAT UP!!!! It makes you wonder "if birds of a feather are not flocking together"??? I do not have a lot of things, but I will keep my honor. Way to go GaCMan............. Tater50 You cannot fool the man in the mirror!!!!!! |
| Oct. 5, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Faults of SPA Don Ward: "unless there rosters show they are a Major or above". Don: I only saw B.P in L/F & L.M. in RCF that did not play Major this year & they, like myself, played Major in the past. I feel that everyone in the Park, including the TD could look at the roster or the people in person & see that the 60 & 65 teams were 99% Major. I, like Jim the Hitman feels cheated. I like others worked extra days just to be able to get off of work to attend that tourney. Big Change is needed & a Yearly Player Poll should be conducted to keep SPA & other assoc in the loop of what the players feel. Tater50 |
| Oct. 3, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: REVISITING THE EQUALIZER RULE Monty: GaCman is a great guy to play with; you will fit in well w/their team; hope you stay; see you in BHam. Tater50 |
| Oct. 3, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Faults of SPA Perly/GaCman: I agree with your statements & also see Don's view with what is on the present books. I feel that since City Pharmacy 60 team had almost 99% players that had played major this year & the 65 Major team that were 99% major players they should have had a 3 of 5 series. The 5 runs we gave to the 65 M Hitman cost us the game. They did beat us bad in the finals; B.G./Wazoo GREAT team!!! Although you stomped us, still like ya!! JMO: I think a yearly player poll is needed; I know that I cannot take off to go to the SPA or another Assoc. meetings in the off season. Tater50. PS Not throwing stones at anyone; just like the others, this has got to be changed. BTW: I have asked this before; HOW MANY PLAYERS SHOW UP FOR THE SENIOR SUMMIT?? Sorry for the yelling, but I got no answer last time. |
| Oct. 3, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Yearly Player Poll I think I started a thread like this a few weeks back. I know there is a Senior Summit every year; but most players cannot attend. I probably would not attend if it were in Atl just 60 miles up the road; not that I am not interested, but I have no extra time & the extra hours that I surplus up on my job, I use for SSball tourneys. Do you think we should have yearly player poll? Yes or No; elaborate if you like. Tater50 |
| Oct. 3, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: REVISITING THE EQUALIZER RULE I will add to this: we NEED a yearly Player Poll to determine rules. My team alone spent thousands of dollars, took off days from work to attend this tourney. My above statement would have sufficed for the 55/60AAA & the 60 & 65M (since their were only 1 60M & 1 65M team). Tater50 |
| Oct. 3, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: REVISITING THE EQUALIZER RULE BruceinGa: "We agree that we will be playing major since half of us played major this year." Columbus LX played you guys & we all had a great game & a great time; you have a great team & some of the guys started w/me on my team years ago; but I only saw 2 players that did not play Major this year. All the IF played w/Wild Bunch, Kittrells or Southern Elite. Only 2 in the OF played AAA & they were X Major Players. I also saw a couple of players on the bench; A.H. & M.B. that also played Major this year. You can correct me if I am wrong; but I said all that to say this: I think that you get better by playing better teams. My reasoning is that your 60 Major team & the 65 Major team should have been allowed to play a couple of pool games & then the 2 of you have the best 3 of 5 series to determine the Champs; the other 60 & 55 AAA teams should have been able to compete on their on level. LX AAA Played the 65 team & lost 14-13 in the winners bracket; take away the 5 free runs & we win easily. IMO. Do not think this is the proper process. Tater50 |
| Sept. 18, 2011 Tater50 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Looking to play with a 60 AAA or Major team Joe: sent you an eeeeeee; we are looking for a cajun/outfielder; must bring some crawdads to the tourney thought!!! Tater50 |
