| April 29, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Looking for a team in the San Diego area Having played in this Tourney in the past, we were extremley disapointed with the fields as well as the maintances between games. There are other alternative ball parks that Top Gun could utilize, Kit Carson fields are out dated and allowed to be rundown. Not suprised by the cancellation. Also , there was a Tourney cancelled in P.S. is this the sign of the times , (economics) ?! |
| April 29, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Hotels ? Jeez!? All I wanted was info. on Hotels. I have no problem orgaizations calling their "own" events what ever they wish. I agree with Marv it is all in the marketing. Although the Thread was hi-jacked it dosen't bother me, however the Bat/Ball issue has been beat'n to death. As, gott2play wrote, "Just Play Ball". |
| April 28, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Hotels ? Thank's to both Scott & Tony for your recommendations. I will check them out for our Team. Tomar |

| April 27, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Live in Rancho Cucamonga Dennis, I usually just go with my Charming Personality, however the fact that Ray lives within a few miles of me,a local guy. I believe it made more sense to him. In addition he is a good fit with our 60+ team. A solid guy and player. Take Care , see you soon. Tommy |
| April 23, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Git-R-Done Expansion Mad dog is absolutely correct! We are not allowed to recruit outside of Ca , makes it difficult for the older divisions as we are finding out. Sorry double O and thanks Mad dog. Tomar |

| Feb. 23, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: A ? WOW! a, in the know answer to my question from my Thread! First off all it really doesn"t bother me that there were a lot of conversations going on throughout the Thread , other than the original point, I say have at it, enjoy the bantering. Kevin we met a little while back when you gave a eulogy to a mutual friend Craig , a accurate heartfelt rememberance to a fellow Senior Softball Player. Thank you for a full explanation about the decision re: the Tourney in the San Diego Area. As I said your organization is solid , my only point in the end is to make the awards "neutral". I am all in favor of the success of this Tourney , our organization looks forward to participating in the future as we have in the past. Our 65 Team did participate in your new Ring Tournament, word is they are enjoying themselves. |
| Feb. 18, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: A baserunner giving himself up and leaving field after being declared safe This same event happened in a game that we played in a few years back. A player thought he was called out and left second base , once he was outside of the base path he was declared out. This ended the inning and the game. It was unfortunate for the opposing team, the player heard the umpire call the runner out at first and thought it was him. Goes to show you need to make sure you are the one being called out. |
| Feb. 18, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: A ? Top Gun is hosting a Ring Tournament in So. Cal.under the auspices of SSUSA, It is The Top Gun Tourney. I am respectful that Top Gun has a strong Senior Softball presence in So. Cal. , in fact they inspired Git-R-Done to multiply our teams. However I have a question. Why would our team want a Ring that has the name of a team(s) that have whoop us in the past Tourney's. I could not enter our 55 & 60 teams in this Tournament with the out of this world possiblity that one of our teams might accidently WIN this Tourney. I definately would not "buy the rings". My question to the message board, would you? My humble suggestion would be to re-name the Tourney maybe the So. CA. Winter Nationals Hosted By Top Gun San Deigo.I am most interested in opinions of fellow softball players and Managers. Our team is interested in playing next year in this Tourney. As there are only 30 teams this year could it be that my point has been made!? Respectfully Submitted Tomar I submitt this commentary in due respect to the Top Gun Organization. But one has to protect a teams ego even if it has a small foot print in the scheme of Senior Softball life. |
| Jan. 22, 2011 TOMAR77 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Are some Positions more important than others? As a Mgr. IMHO, I have build my team on #1 Pitcher, #2 Outfielders, thats it. I figure if I can recruit skilled outfielders I have player's that are athletes that can play several positions. The one possible exception would be SS. However my current SS has played the O.F.on most of his previous teams, but is becoming a very solid SS for us. However I would agree if you have a player who knows the fundamentals of our game that is a plus, especially at catcher. So , when it comes down to it ,if you know the game , if you can run , if you can catch , if you can throw the ball accuratly with some zip , if you can field ground balls and have range , than I guess that is the most important position! By the way if you can do all the above contact me at your earliest convenience I have been looking for you! |

| Dec. 31, 2010 TOMAR77 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Most Unusual, outlandish, Funny, etc. Softball story A Ridiculous true story. As a mgr. of a rec. team that was losing more than winning I decided to start charging 25 cents for errors committed! Of course I would judge whether an error had been committed. Whoa, what a mistake!!! Our LCF bobbled a ball hit to him early in the game, allowing 2 runs to score! I was NOT going to charge an error as the ball did take a slightly bad hop. When we came into the dugout at the end of the inning,I started to say no error to the player, but before I could say it, the LCF was in my face ready to beat me into a pulp! This guy was one of my best friends, a former college linebacker had about 80 lbs on me. Next thing I know is our friend Jesse (a former minor league catcher, weighing in at over 200lbs over 6'), comes out of the dugout and tells our friend Rob if you touch him "I'm going to kick your ass", Jesse and Rob rent a house together go figure. Things are escalating out of control! The game has come to a complete stop. the other team and umpire have literally stop in their tracks to watch the fireworks. Then all of a sudden our SS comes out of the dugout with a bat in his hands and yells at us "The first one who takes a swing I am going to nail them with the bat!!". We all froze,we look at each other pause, and burst out laughing. No one was hurt we all remained good friends and have had a number of beers together relieving the "Fight At The O.K. Dugout". Oh yeah, you can bet I scrapped the 25 cent fine! The money just wasn't worth the hassle! |

| Dec. 7, 2010 TOMAR77 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: 5 Run Rule Just played in the SCSSA,Championship.Donnie and Marv did a solid job organizing the event. There were a few hic-ups , but what do you expect for the 1st time out. Our experince was positive. We did question certain decisions but were given valid answers by Donnie and Jerry. We accepted their answers and moved forward. It is impossible to please everyone, but rather than complain get out there and play the hand your dealt. One thing that was brought up was: When a lower rated team is receiving the 5 run equalizer is it fair to issue the 1 run when the receiving team scored the max. There-by allowing a 6 run inning.Obviously the higher rated team can only score a max. 5 runs according to our rules. It just seems an unfair advantage to the lower rated team.Personally I feel that if a lower rated team gets their 5 then that should be the max. Now, another way to eliminate this inherent controversy is to issue the 5 runs outright at the beginning of the game and that is what the higher rated teams are charged with to overcome. Just to advise, the team that I am on often receives the benefit of the 5 runs, but my mantra is "A Sense Of Fairness". I am interested in the opinion of SSUSA, and my fellow Senior Softball Community Members opinions on this rule. Thank You, Tomar |
| Nov. 11, 2010 TOMAR77 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Honoring Our Veterans Read this Poem in my local paper. Thought it was worthy of passing it on. "JUST A COMMON SOLDIER" by A. Lawrence Vaincourt He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast, And he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past. Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done, In his exploits with his buddies; they were heros, every one. And tho' sometimes, to his neigbors, his tales became a joke, All his Legion buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer for old Bill has past away, And the world's a little poorer, for a soldier died today. He will not be mourned by many, just his children and his wife, For he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life. Held a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way, And the world won't note his passing, though a soldier died today. If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say, Our country is in mourning, for a soldier died today. God Bless Bill, and God Bless our Veterans and our Men and Women Serving Today. Tommy |
