Discussion: Outcome of GSC

As far as I am concerned they both got off lightly. We have become a Country that coddles the Criminals and make their Victims feel that True Justice has not been served. Criminals need to be held accountable for the decisions they make. No one forced them to commit crimes injurious to our Fellow Citizens. They willfully chose to hurt and cause pain to their Victims. BOTH of these people are EVIL and deserve to be chastised and be considered Outcast from Civil Society. Only to be readmitted through contrition, penalty's served and voluntary contributions to better Civil Society.
Make them pay "In Full" the amount of money they defrauded from the Innocent Victims. If they can not pay the Money back then increase their Jail Time to be commiserate to the amount of Money NOT Paid Back. Why should Mercy be given to either one of them ??? Did they have compassion and concern for their Victims ? I Think Not !
I do feel bad for the Victims and want to Thank Ed for telling us what came of this Criminal endeavor.
How long or will the Victims ever recover their investments, likely their Losses will never be recouped. God knows their physiological pain will be with them for many years if not for life. And these miscreants get 5 years and the woman no jail time or ?
Another miscarriage of Justice for The Victims. I say God Bless the Victims may you find Peace and Forgiveness. To the Perpetrators may you be Dammed.

Discussion: EQUALIZER RUNS QUESTION

Thanks Dave for the response. Still as I have suggested in an earlier Thread on this subject, putting it in a different way. You cannot legislate Sportsmanship. You can direct good behavior by making it hurt, if a Team is using the Rules to harm our game we can make Teams be respectful of their opposition and the game itself. So with that in mind I have in the past recommended that we put a cap on the lead a Higher Rated Team can have when they are Visitors. I suggested a 10 Run Lead then the Home Team Bats (this Rule would only apply when a Higher Rated Team plays a Lower Rated Team). If the Higher Rated team can not hold the lead then so be it, they likely did not earn the Win. Now as I understand it there is some Scoring records available so that SSUSA can adjust the Run Lead accordingly, up or down. Still a Manager needs to pay attention and decide on whether his/her Team should be Home or Visitors. All must be accountable for their decisions.

Discussion: EQUALIZER RUNS QUESTION

May I partly interrupt this Thread. Although it is on the same subject, 'Equalizer'.
I have Played and Managed AA (Currently), AAA and Major Teams.
I clearly can see the difference's in the play of each level Teams. Mainly I have found that the better Teams are more consistent in their ability to play at a higher skill level, than the lower Rated Teams. I acknowledge also that their are many player's that are just plain better then many of us, good for them. Hence, to accommodate the lesser Skilled Teams SSUSA employs the current Rating System. There by insuring more Teams/Players to participate in our Sport.
With that said, the revised Rule that now requires that the Higher Rated Team receive the Automatic Home Team Advantage has, at the very least watered down the Equalizer. Ask any Team wanting to give their Team a "Real Advantage" they are going to take the Home Team Advantage. Looking at it from a lower Teams perspective the Equalizer has become pretty much a wash.
If SSUSA is serious in trying to make lower Rated Teams competitive with the Higher Rated Team we MUST go back to The "Coin Flip". At the very least both Teams have their chance to choose Visitors or Home Team. Personally I believe we should leave this decision to the Teams. In other words let the Team Manage itself as much as possible. Not sure who did the whining to have this Rule change made, but if their Team can not play well enough to beat a lower Rated Team, that is on them. They should show more pride in themselves and their Team not to ask SSUSA to intercede on their behalf to HELP them beat a lower Qualified Team. SSUUA should change the Rule back in 2018.
The integrity of the Game is more important then the Sour Grapes of losers looking to have a Further edge in beating lower skilled Teams.

Discussion: A Thank You

Just want to give a Shout Out to Dave and SSUSA for their handling of a mixed Rating issue in our Division. Higher Rated Teams were slotted in our Schedule. Unfortunately it was near impossible to re-work the Rock N Reno Tournament Schedule. It would have create havoc from multiple field changes, time changes, for most the Teams in the Second Session. So SSUSA stepped up and balanced the needs of both the affected Teams and the integrity of the Master Session 2 Schedule. This added cost to SSUSA Treasury, but they made things right despite the added cost. Also I spoke with Dave at the Managers Meeting, he told me that he was going to explain to the Manager's at the Meeting the problem that occurred. I said to him it wasn't necessary for my part. He answered that it was important to take OWNERSHIP of the MISTAKE. That it was best to acknowledge the issue so that it would not happen again. So a Tip of the "Old Ball Cap" to Dave, who did SSUSA Proud and displayed true Integrity to OUR GAME.

Discussion: home advantage

Would like the Rules Committee to take another look at providing the Higher Rated Team automatic Home Team. There is a very good reason that Teams want to be Home Team,(not counting the Teams that want to be Visitors to have BA against a lower rated Team). There is a distinct ADVANTAGE, (can you hear me?)to being the Home Team. This change has lessen the intended purpose of trying to equalize the game and has penalized the lower rated Team. As I have suggested earlier if the purpose of giving the automatic Home Team Advantage to the Higher Rated Team is to help keep the games on time, I suggest you limit the scoring in the open inning to a 10 run lead. Let the coin flip allow the Managers to make the call not arbitrarily disadvantaging the lower rated Team.

Nails, Marv has it right. Steve schedules Clinics in various locations. Need to contact his website and get on his email list. That is how I did it. He emailed me a few months later on the San Clemente Clinic.

Discussion: Steve Imlay hitting clinic

I also attended Steve Imlay's Hitting Clinic in San Clemente CA. I had gotten into some bad habits, Batting Stance etc. Steve and his staff were very helpful with their suggestions. I now have a complete make-over on my approach in the Batters Box. I am not a power hitter (singles hitter), still their suggestions are such that it forced me to FOCUS and to drive the ball much harder then previously. I increased my Exit Seed by "10mph"! Just finished BP today. 1st 50 pitches O.k., 2nd 50 pitches a noted improvement even my fellow BP Mates noticed the improvement,(ya they still gave me "S--T"). Steve and his Staff 'worked us' they stayed on us and kept encouraging us. They not only shared their knowledge but help to build our confidences. I also bought a Tee to continue to train my Batting Technique and Muscle Memory. I still need work, but at least I am comfortable with the knowledge shared by Steve and his Staff. Special Thanks to Steve's Son Drew who was patient in reinforcing my new and Improved Hitting Stance. Shout out to my fellow Clinic Mates all made for an enjoyable learning experience.

Discussion: Tournament seeding

Since the change in allowing the Higher Ranked Teams to have the Advantage with the "HAMMER" it has proven to neutralize the Equalizer ! I have Managed Teams with the Higher and Lower Rankings, obviously receiving and getting the "5 Run Equalizer". I agree that teams take advantage of the open inning to pile on. I also agree with the implication that it is unsportsmanlike but it is a part of the game. Hold the Team and Manager accountable but, you can't make Teams play with class. Plus one of the tie breakers is Run's scored against NOT how many Runs a Team scores. So this speaks to the situation that there is no need to pile on except to have "BA" against an overmatched Team. Still I as a Manager should have the responsibility on whether I want to give the other Team Visitor or Home Team (based on winning the Coin Flip). I have in the past taken the Visitors knowing the opposing Team would likely run the score up. Point is I had the choice. Now I just shake my head knowing that the Rules have circumvented my Teams option by giving my lower rated Team a disadvantage thereby neutralizing in most cases the 5 Run Equalizer. As far as keeping the Games on Time I agree that it is important, but not at the 'expense' of putting Teams of a lower level of skill, (most likely new Teams and rebuilding Teams). Makes for an elitist approach. There are I am sure better alternatives then penalizing a Lower Rated Team. Maybe limit an open inning scoring in which a Higher Ranked Team can score up to a 10 Run Lead. Just a suggestion. Again I have Managed at both ends of the old Rule. I never felt it was unfair. In fact it is my belief that we have more Teams playing because of the 5 Run Equalizer. Now, (as it was at the Spring Worlds), we get 5 Runs but we are penalized by giving up any fair chance of receiving the Hammer. Seems that the squeaky wheel got the oil and we got "Hammered".

Need to add 1 or 2 Outfielders to an established, very active 65 Team. Currently rated AA looking to move up to AAA, but need to add some solid O.F. to make that happen. Must be willing to travel we are going to Reno so if that fits into your agenda give us a call or email.

Discussion: Spring World Championships in Mesquite

I consider Field 3 (Baseball Field) at Hunter Park a "Very Dangerous Field". With the wrinkles on the Artificial Turf, the Berms on the Infield caused by sand/dirt at the edges of the Infield Cutouts it is the worst Field in Mesquite, and probably west of the Mississippi. A few years back I was lucky I did not have my arm broken when a hard hit ground ball took a bad bounce off of the Infield Berm. Fortunately if glanced off of my arm and became a Fly Ball in left Field! I understand the need to maximize Field usage to get all the games in. But in my humble opinion the safety of our players should be paramount and this particular Field should be eliminated from play. Yes I am fully aware that "Bad Bounces" happen. I accept the inevitable. But to exacerbate the situation by putting us on what is obviously a field that is defective thereby creating a stronger possibility of injury I submit it just isn't worth the risk. If the powers that be can maintain the Field to overcome said above defects using the Field despite the Infield Artificial Turf the Pitching Mound on the Infield and the "Outsized Outfield" we just have to deal with it so as to keep the Games played on a reasonable schedule.

Discussion: Texas Rattlers AA ?

Reviewing Teams in our Division I noticed that the Winner of the 2016 World Masters Texas Rattlers are still Rated AA ? Am I missing something here ? It was my understanding that if your Team won The World Masters then said Winner was automatically moved up to the next Rating. Certainly happened with our Team and was expected.
Not to pry, but am I missing a rule change or is something else in play ? No conspiracy implied by my questions.
