Discussion: North Collier Park- Hotel Rooms- Winter Nationals Ft. Myers

Hi! I have a block of 6 rooms reserved for the Winter Nationals
in the Ft. Myers area November 7-11. I was going to take a 40+ team
to the Tournament but it fell through and we are not going now.
The 6 rooms/suites DoubleTree Suites which are located 3 miles
from the North Collier Park. I believe the 40's, and the 50 Major
& 50 Major Plus Divisions will be playing there. If anyone wants the
rooms, text me 717-507-2555, you can have them. Thought I would offer
before cancelling the reservation. Thanks

Discussion: Funniest Softball Stories

Ok this happened at the Las Vegas Senior World's this past September. Similiar to MurrayW above, but a little different. We were in the loser's bracket of the 55AAA and had an 8:00 pm start time. Well as luck would have it the game started at about 10:30 pm. In fact the Umpires kept us moving because they told us about the lights going off at Midnight.

What he did'nt tell us though, was that the Water Sprinklers in the outfield come on about 11:45 pm.

So it's a back & forth game. I think the score was something like 27-25. It's the top bottom of the 7th and the opposing team scores 2 runs to tie it at 27 apiece. There's a runner on first, the game winning run, and there's 1 out.

Guess what time it is now? Yes 11:45 pm. And guess what happens? Yes the water sprinklers go off in the outfield. Now, you see, we were the last game being played that night. So the Tournament Director was there watching the game. I'm the pitcher, guess what the TD & the Home Plate Umpire instruct me to do? Seriously...

They say Play Ball... I have outfielders out there running around to avoid the shower they are getting and these two guys tell me to pitch and keep on playing. I refused.

Then after a little discussion, they say Okay you guys need to come back tomorrow morning at 7:30 am to finish the game.

So we are a East Coast Team, so we really walked off the field at 2:50 am. Then the lights went out...

The good part, we came back the next day, got two quick outs and then scored 9 runs in the top of the 8th, we won the game.

Play Ball... Sure Okay why not!

Just wanted to add to what Doorman said when he started this thread. My team - Roadhouse Blue's - from Pennsylvania did just about the same that Doorman's team did. We played in the 55 AAA division. Played a lot of softball and had a great time! But I have to tell you guys about the Water Sprinkler Game. It was last the game being played at Lorenzi on Saturday Night. The game started at 10:15 pm PST or 1:15 am EST. So we get to the bottom of the 7th,it's a tie game and it is now 11:45 pm. Two outs, runner on first, guess what happened? No the lights did not go out, we were told they would go out at 11:55 pm, BUT someone forgot to tell us about the Water Sprinklers... They came ON in the outfield! No problem right? Wrong! Guess what the Umpire & TD told us to do? Go ahead take a guess... They both very vehemently stated. Keep Playing, we have to get this game in! No kidding & they insisted we keep playing!! We said no way! Anyway it all worked out, we were told to come back Sunday Morning at 7:30 AM to finish the game.. Then the lights did go out.... Ouch!

I count 4 teams that border Pennsylvania. I live in PA, and am going to Ft. Myers to play with a 55 AAAteam. If any of those teams need an extra player, let me know! I'll Help any of you guys! The 55 AAA bracket games on Friday will be done before the 50 AAA games get started. Just putting it out there. Thanks. 717-507-2555

Thanks for the info. Mr. Omar you make some great and valid points.
Honestly I can play 55 Major if I wanted to, I certainly feel I could hold my own. It's just frustrating not
being able to find a team to hook up with and then when you do, sorry you might be too good to play for them.

Again SSUSA was very cordial. There's
no hard feelings. They will allow me to play AAA, Major etc. That's fair.

But again the bottom line, I won't be playing anywhere. There's no 55+ AAA or Major teams looking for players.

If you know of any, in Penna or adjoining states, let me know. Until
then i'll just have to play USSSA with the young guys!

Hi No did not send any $$ in yet. In fact my SSUSA card has expired. But you are correct about being a sub/sponsor. SSUSA should really look
at the entire picture. Thanks

Discussion: Trying to Play 55+

I just wanted to get some other points of view. I helped start and was the sponsor of a 50+ team. It began in 2006 as a AAA team. The team did well. When we played AAA in 06 & 07 I played alot.
But as more & better players turned 50
we picked them up. My playing time went to basically coaching third base with an occasional few innings played in meaningless games.

Since we did well, the team got bumped to Major and then Major Plus.

Knowing that I was turning 55 in 2011, I did not attend any functions with the
50 team in 2010. So I sat out the year. The 50 team changed sponsors and went on their way without me.

Now 2011 arrives. I attempt to join up with the only 55+ team that has an interest in me. Regardless of what their class is, they are the only team that I can find to play with.

As it turns out they are a 55 AA team.

So what happens next? The 55 AA team does the right thing. They inquire about myself with SPA & SSUSA. I have never played SPA, they say I'm OK to play with the 55 team. Take a guess what SSUSA'S position is?

You got it, they say I am a Major+ player, therefore I can't play on the 55 AA team.

I appeal in writing. Ok now they say we will bump you down to Major. Still
can't play AA though, AAA is the lowest
level I can play.

SSUSA was very cordial but I just don't
get it? If I sit out another year, then they would re-evaluate my status in 2012 and perhaps then I would be moved to AAA status.

All I want to do is play some 55 level Senior ball. I suppose playing SPA only is ok but then I would not be able to make all of the 55 team's tournaments.

I think SSUSA should re-look at individual player classifications. I really don't think that 1 player would really effect an entire team at the 55 AA level, perhaps I'm wrong. Especially one that is not a Long Ball hitter.

I'm sure SSUSA has this ruling to curtail cheating or whatever, but
each case should be judged on it's own merit.

Thanks to everyone who may respond to this post.

Discussion: Looking for a 55+ Team

Just thought I would put it out there.
I am eligible to start playing at the 55+ level in October.

My 50 team is going to the ISSA Nationals in VA BEACH in October and
to the SSUSA Winter Nationals in Ft. Myers in November.

I would'nt mind hooking up with
a 55+ team to play with.

If you are looking let me know.
AAA and above though!

Discussion: Best Outfielder

There are lots of Great Outfielders at the 50-55 Age level, no doubt. If I had to pick one of the Best though, I'd
nominate Clarke Farrell from the Philadelphia, PA area. The complete package and at 53 yrs old he just seems to be getting better all the time! Happy Holiday's everyone!

The Ultra II at one time did indeed have a warranty. That was when they first came out though, which was what maybe 2003? The "W" stamp in the end cap means the bat was a warranty replacement bat. The Ultra II's of today with the senior softball logo on the handle do not have a warranty.

Agreed, very sad. I mean why would anyone do that? It's just nuts! And
as for the safety issue, wow!

Also it was not one of the team's bats,
it was left there by some other team.

Hey Paco13 I can guarantee you that the guy who posted this did not own the
bat. He don't need a shaved bat for one thing, the way he hits. And second
there's no way he would do it, he would
NEVER do that. Knowing him, No way it was his!

Maybe whoever left it behind screwed up by leaving it there?

Hey Swampy! I am one of the players on the Frederick team, I don't know anything about the Bat so i'm not going
to address it. I just wanted to say that it was great playing against you guys. Those were some great games. You guys really hit the ball! Love playing in thise games win or lose!
Good luck to your team in 2010!
Are you guys considering going to the TOC?
