So DieselDan, did you see any noticeable increase in bat speed or power?

Discussion: Thumb gaurds

I have seen a lot of major league ball players using the thumb guards. The claim is that they reduce bat sting and increase bat speed for softball and hardball players. I have yet to see a softball player using the thumb guard. Is it because they don't work for softballers? Has anyone tried one?

What's your take on the bat warmers? Are they beneficial? At what outside temperature would they be unproductive?

I've watched some teams in the past practice with a ball that seemed almost like a hacky sack. You hit it and it didn't go more than 20'. Any idea what these were and where I can find some? Thanks in advance!!

Discussion: Favorite Team Names

Played against a team in mens league who named themselves "Balls Deep". Not really something I wanted my kids to see, but amusing still the same. Also tried to name our coed team "He's and Hoes", but the women wouldn't go for it.

Discussion: Anyone out there from Rancho Cordova, Ca?

mad dog,
Didn't forget about Randy. He was 1 of the 3 drafted in the 1st round. He was our neighbor down the street. Pitched for the Phillies. Mike Ondina was drafted in the first round also, but never made it out of the minors.I did forget about Max Venable. He played 12 years in the Majors. I played on a All Star Pony League team with him in 1970. I don't think his brother Darrell played anywhere. I also forgot the Nyman brothers, Chris(1973) and Nyls(1972). Chris played 2 years for the White Sox and Nyls played 4 years for the White Sox also. Jerry Manuel actually had a scholarship to Notre Dame playing football. I believe he was a punt returner. Don't know what happened to Rod Connors. Played Junior High football with him. Dude was fast. Also Larry wolfe (1971), played in the Majors from 1977 to 1980. Pretty amazing crop of athletes during that 5 year period. Who was your ex?

Discussion: Anyone out there from Rancho Cordova, Ca?

Anybody out there graduate from Cordova High in the early 70's? Would be great to hear from an old classmate. Will be in Mesquite this week. The 70's was a great decade for our school in football and baseball. I believe we were rated as the #1 high school football team of the decade for the 70's. The Class of 1972 yielded 3, first round draft choices in baseball. Most notable, Jerry Manuel, current manager of the NY Mets.

Discussion: Torn pcl muscle

Has anyone out there had to deal wtih a partial tear in their pcl muscle? It took an MRI and a scope to discover what was wrong. For me it is painful at the back of my knee to make any quick moves. My orthopedic surgeon suggested resting it. Its been 6 months since the injury and 3 months that I have rested it. Not seeming to get any better. He said it is an uncommon pull and I would probably have to go to a specialist in Salt Lake City for repair.(the guy who did Tiger Woods knee). Any suggestions or info?

Discussion: rotator cuff surgery

I had the rotor cuff surgery about 5 years ago. I'm now 51. As I recall (I use this term loosely), it was 4-6 months. I remember all the brutal therapy sessions that seemed neverending. I also remember being ready for the start of ball season, which was 6 months from surgery date. Although the whole process was a hassle, it was well worth the sacrafice. Hope you have a speedier recovery than I did. Good Luck.
