Sept. 8, 2012 cw | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: ballantine Hi Bruce, There are two 50+ travel teams in the area, one out of Wilmington/Newark is Rhino Linings and the other out of Dover is First National Bank of Wyoming(DE). The contact for Rhino Linings is Rich Thomas at jairusent@msn.com. If you want to contact the FNB guys send me an email at chris_wurm@agilent.com and I can forward your email to one of the FNB players. I don't have the coaches contact info. There is a "Senior" league that plays in Smyrna in the summer, but I also don't know who the main contact is for that. Maybe someone one the board can help? Also, there was a post by boomer23 recently. This info appplies to you as well. |
April 16, 2012 cw | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 1st State Spring Classic. Bayada 55's will be at both Glen Burnie and Loudon. |
March 19, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: DeMarini The One Hi HJ, Here's some info from Softball Fans: http://reviews.softballfans.com/bat.php?v=DeMarini&id=352 Small sample size, but looks like it's balanced, hot, and maybe not so durable? |
March 4, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: DeMarini The One Will you publish the results on the web somewhere? |
March 1, 2012 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New HR rules Hi James, We played with the new HR rule in Fort Myers this past fall and our team (50 AAA) did not like it. While it's great that you don't penalize the batter for hitting one out of the park after the limit, we felt that it would actually lead to more sandbagging, where power hitting players are added to lower division teams for big tournaments. Some games seemed as if there was a merry-go-round going on out there (i.e. when we were in the field). That's our opinion for what that's worth. That said, it won't stop us from playing with whatever rules they come up with; we just like to play. |
Feb. 3, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: MrBill29 Ok, thanks. That's really too bad as I thought that one might have promise. A couple of the guys on my team have the older Worth Senior Toxics and the ball seems to fly off of them pretty well. |
Jan. 30, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: MrBill29 Thanks gucci, but just to clarify, are you talking about the Demarini? |
Jan. 27, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: MrBill29 Thanks MrBill, I was wondering about this one. Now, has anyone tried the DeMarini "The One". Inquiring minds want to know. |
Jan. 10, 2012 cw | Topic: Bats Discussion: Any early reviews of 2012 model year bats? I just received my new Direct Sports catalog and see that there are two new Senior bats listed, Demarini "The One" and Worth 454. Anyone (perhaps some of you warm weather guys) tried either of these yet? I'd love to hear your reviews. Thanks. |
Jan. 6, 2012 cw | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Foul out to catcher Stretch - just be aware that this rule is not the same across all associations. I don't know why I know this, but I am pretty sure that in some associations (not sure which ones, maybe USSSA?) a foul tip does not have to go above the batter's head to be caught for an out. FWIW. |
Oct. 28, 2011 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Chest Protector Our shortstop wears EvoShield: http://www.softball.com/CHEST-GUARDS/EvoShield-Grey-Chest--Rib-Protector/softball/lev/6/productId/11814/N/34+36/Nty/1/Ns/PRODUCT_AFFINITY%7C1/Ntx/mode%20matchallpartial/Ntt/CHEST%20GUARDS/Ntk/Cats/VCategory/SEARCH_SUCCESSFUL/index.pro I believe that it forms to your body. He likes it because, like you, he took a shot off the chest and wanted some more protection. Not cheap, but he says it is comfortable and it works. |
Oct. 26, 2011 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Congratulations East Coast Teams Hey Shark, now that the results are posted, besides the Hitmen you can add Omega, Hamel's, Lew's Crew and the Golden Girls to that list. (Not sure where "East Coast" ends because there are a few more teams that might be included like Jim and Joe's, Steel Dawgs and Triangle Masters, etc.) Congrats to all. |
Oct. 13, 2011 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Tanel rep at Phoenix? Ditto for Fort Myers. |
Oct. 5, 2011 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Good Thermo-type Underwear This year I bought an Under Armour "Cold Gear" shirt to wear under my jersey. It works great and is comfortable so I highly recommend it. Note sure abot 30 degrees, but it certainly keeps me warm at 45-50 degrees. I know they have leggings too but I wear long pants so I'm Ok there. |
Sept. 27, 2011 cw | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Largely attended tourney's The 2011 ISSA Winter Nationals held in Virginia Beach currently has 61 registered teams which would put it at #3. |
July 20, 2011 cw | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Wouldn't it be nice They would only be posting scores. Is that promoting the association? Isn't there some gigantic thread about Dalton, GA (which I believe is SPA related) on here already? We, as players, play in several different associations, and it would be nice if there was one common place to see results and information about ALL senior softball. To be perfectly honest, we don't care about the association as much as we care about the venue where we play. This is the best message board and it's where I go to get most of my info (and entertainment!) about senior ball. Can't we all just get along? |
March 24, 2011 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Dumb question... Why is there a 3% surcharge if you pay with a Visa or Mastercard? It would seem to me that this would be more efficient than paper forms and checks in the mail. Perhaps SSUSA could set up a PAYPAL account and automate payments? Just wondering... |
Dec. 21, 2010 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Most Unusual, outlandish, Funny, etc. Softball story Back in my 20's my team was playing a league game at a complex where there were 2 fields side by side with a walkway in between. A ball gets hit to our shortstop who wings a throw over our first baseman's head so far that it sails and hits a gentleman, square in the head, leaning on a fence on the third base side of the OTHER field watching that game. He turns around ready to fight whoever just hit him! We, of course apologize to him and he decides that he will move behind the other field's backstop to get out of harms way. Not 2 or 3 plays later a single gets hit to me in left field and a runner is trying to score from second. I charge the ball and uncork a throw to the plate that sails completely over our backstop, and you guessed it, hits this same guy right square in the back. Our entire team couldn't help but fall down laughing. The gentleman turned to us and said "I'm out of here; I can see that it's not my day!" and immediately left the ballpark. |
Dec. 7, 2010 cw | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SSUSA Summit Can someone elaborate on the sliding at first and at the second home plate rule change, if there was one? Thanks, Chris |
