Fellas,

Definitely going
* So Cal 55's (CA)
* Grants Posse (CA)
* Tri-State Merchants (PA)

* Scrap Iron/Rocky Mountain Thunder (CO)

Probable based on TOC history and/or team location
* High Street Bucs (MD)
* Kinnco Services (IN)
* Levin Financial (FL)
* Triangle Masters (NC)
* Snyder/Lance (FL)

Don't know
* MWC (KS)

I would expect 10 to 11 teams for 55 Major.

Discussion: Advice for a 48 year old

Macbri19,

First if all, your 2 year plan may be only a year away. I'm assuming that you'll be turning 49 during the 2015 calendar year. If that's the case, you can start playing 50's (in your location) as early as the Winter Nationals in November 2015. It's the roster qualifier for the 2016 season, so you just have to turn 50 during that year.

As far as getting ready, try to find senior leagues that allow the use of senior bats and similar balls. It certainly would help get you used to how hot the equipment is that we get to use. And as Bruce says, find some bp buddies. There's nothing better than getting the swings in.

All the best to you.

NewRuleSC,

What you're talking about us OBP (on-base percentage). Many teams do both BA and OBP (BB's as hits). It can provide insight to a players trends and habits. I tend to look a a lot of pitches, and therefore walk a fair amount. Can't score runs if you have no base runners. JMO.

Let's see, looks like 5 more teams were added than when I last checked for field assignments. More teams, no field assignments. Two words come to mind Staff...C'mon man!

Mike,

Congratulations on your induction to the SSHOF. Can I still call you Mike, or is it Mr Adair now? Seriously though, my sincere congratulations on this honor.

Correction to my post. Top Gun was not in Reno and therefore could not have been beaten. Houston Fire beat R&R 26-17 in the first bracket game.

Discussion: Fairness in Ratings

Chico,

Let me try to add my perceived SSUSA logic wrt your inquiry about Houston Fire. I just looked at facts and data.

* they went 1-1 in seeding games, losing to MBA Elite 27-26, and beating N.
State Screen Print 17-15
* in bracket games where they went undefeated, they beat Top Gun 26-17,
beat NSSP 16-12, beat Enviro-Vac 14-13, and then beat Enviro-Vac in the
championship game 15-13.

Sure, they went undefeated, but the fact is...they didn't blow teams away. The scores would indicate that the game were all close. The fact that they won the tourney doesn't make them Major Plus.

I play 55 Major, and our biggest competition won the first two ring tournies of the year, and finished third at the SSUSA/LVSSA Southwest Championships. They're a very good Major team, but certainly not Major Plus

My point is that aside from what SSUSA has already stated, winning a major tourney doesn't constitute an automatic bump in rating.

Hope this sheds some light.

SeniorMan,

The Hawaii teams are always represented well at the LVSSA/SSUSA World Championships for two reasons...1) they like to compete, and 2) they love to gamble even more. LoL. HJust sayin'

IMO, AA teams for the most part started at AAA and were dropped down due to little or no success at the AAA level. It doesn't mean that they don't compete, they're just not well represented at a lot of Major tournies.

Truth is, the AAA and Major levels are the most participated divisions.

Discussion: player classification

SSUSA...specifically George,

TwinMotors makes very valid case for reclassification based on a 5 year hiatus from Senior Softball participation. I understand the two year waiting period for reclassification is tied to continuous participation, but c'mon man!

A 5 year absence, 63 years of age, and age related injuries should be sufficient enough to warrant an SSUSA management decision in favor of TwinMotors.

Hopefully, he gets treated fairly.

Discussion: Anyone find relief for piriformis syndrome?

Bogle,

I too suffer from sciatica (right side) with pain localized to the deep glute area. Occasionally, the pain radiates down the leg near the back of my knee, but very rarely.

Aside from the stretching, I lay on my right side, support my upper body with my forearm, put a softball under the piriformis muscle area and roll that area on the ball. It seems to be a trigger point area and does offer some pain relief.

I also carry a tennis ball in my car...long drives tend to aggravate the pain in the glute area. When that happens, I just put the tennis ball right on the glute area (yes, I sit on the ball) and roll it right on the nerve. Temporary relief for sure.

Good luck

Discussion: SSUSA TOURNAMENTS...???

Scott,

Not that Fresno isn't on everyone's destination list, but teams show up to Reno and Vegas when it's 100 because...well, it's Reno and Vegas! I was in Fresno that year and it was in the 90's with just enough humidity to make it uncomfortable. We had an umpire go down during one of our games...not good. Since you're from the Fresno area, I'm sure you're used to it.

Fresno was SSUSA's attempt to pacify the Southern California teams that year and move it closer to So Cal, and probably won't happen again. This year the Cal Cup is going to be in Hemet where July temperatures will be at or around 100 degrees. We'll see how that goes.

Discussion: "The One"

Bob4242,

The short answer to your question is that this version just recently hit the market. Though I've not swung it yet, I've heard excellent things from those who gave. The previous versions of "The One" were good line drive bats but fell short of the performance level of the Miken, Reebok, or Combat bats.

Also, some guys just have an affinity for Miken and will never change regardless of any new product hitting the market, IMO.

Garocket,

Not worried about it, just curious. I'm a detail guy and just like to know things. As for your question about lodging we will be keeping our rooms regardless of where we're playing.

How about this...would you order a steak and not ask how it's cooked, book a rental car and not care whether you got a Economy or Full Size, book a room for you and a teammate to share and not care whether you get two queen beds or one king?

It doesn't cost a thing to ask. Just sayin

Garocket,

Some people care, others like yourself could care less about how many miles they have to drive to play. You drive 20 miles to play league ball, you're a better man than me. I live in LA so 20 miles in our traffic blows, understood it's a choice I make.

As for rooms, Eastside Cannery (where we've booked) is already sold out, just to throw it out there.

As for the driving distance from South Point to Shadow Rock, I Google Mapped the two addresses, so there you go.

Apparently, you can't ask SSUSA for anything without it being construed as crying...in your opinion. Gimme a friggin' break dude!

Dave, Fran, George, Giovanni, or whoever penned this,

I understand that this is only the 3rd year of the Southwest Championships being held in Vegas after years in Laughlin. Historical data shows 112 and 144 teams participated for years 2012 and 2013. I haven't done the research, but I would guess SSUSA would be safe to assume 130 to 150 teams max, and you pretty much know which age divisions are larger draws. You could certainly put out "tentative" field locations. In my experiences over the years, tentative field locations haven't changed, at least for the age/division I play in.

Just sayin' and JMO
