Discussion: heart attack

As soon as I sasw this: "A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message sends it to 10
> people,'

I realized it was an urban legend.

Unrelated question. This is a forum for older softball players right? Then why the heck is the typeset so darn small?

"Forgot to add, if you do cross back (try to go back to 3rd base) over in most places your automatically out.
"
So even if you have to go back because of a fly ball that was caught you are out if you crossed the commit line.

I'm not sure how universal this rule is but we have a committ line half way between third and home. If you go past the line you have to go home or you are out.

My question is if you go past the line because you think a fly ball is going to drop in can you come back to third and tag up and proceed home again?

Discussion: Called out for carrying the bat

Let me add: the umpire did apologize to me during the game for the bad call. He looked it up between innings. Of course that was to late to do anything about the out.

Discussion: Called out for carrying the bat

In last night's over 50 league game I got called out for carrying the bat to 1st base. The reason I carried it is that I was distracted with a pulled muscle that had me hopping down to 1st.

The ump offered to show me the rule and I don't know why I didn't take him up on the offer.

I have not been very impressed with my Rip It Senior certianly not compared to my Miken Freak Plus. I take it the ASA label isn't good enough for SSUSA?

Discussion: SAFETY in SOFTBALL

"I sure hope no league allow, or God forbid requires, a screen. What about all of the throws across the infield or to home plate from center or second base that the screen interferes with?"

I'm not saying I want the screen, heck I don't pitch and don't want to. But if a screen was considered a good idea the pitcher could be responsible for laying it down or getting it out of the way. Just brain storming here.

The fact that these:

1. Running into objects,
2. Incorrect sliding
3. Muscle strains and sprains

doesn't have much to do with the severity of the possible injuries from a line drive to the head or chest of a pitcher.

100 sprained ankles doesn't equal one concussion.

Discussion: save it for the confessional

Does any league allow/require the pitchers to pitch from behind a screen? I'm thinking that if any ball to hit it would be called a foul ball it would not detract from the game too much.

Discussion: foggy sunglasses

I'm kind of confused by some of the advice. Wearing sunglasses during night games?
Wearing your ball cap backwards to stop your glasses from steaming? Isn't the bill of the cap essential in blocking the sun from getting in your eyes?

Discussion: I've got a man problem

I think I found the solution in tonight's double header opening game of the season. I started with a compression short, put on my cup and jock and then put another pair of compression shorts over the top of that. No chaffing and the cup finally felt secure. One little problem, with all these layers on I felt like a menu item from Taco Bell. Get your 4 layer Sausage stuffed burrito at my next game.

I did a little more field reserch at practice last night. I tried the compression shorts with the cup pocket. No chaffing but the cup never seems like it's in the right place so I'm constantly adjusting it.

Discussion: I've got a man problem

I had practice tonight and tried one of ideas suggested here. I did the compression shorts with the traditional jock and cup over that. I didn't have any problem with the chaffing, the cup didn't feel real secure though. I kept having to pull it down to have 'coverage'.

I wouldn't think of playing the infield without a cup but I get a terrible chaffing problem 'down there'. Any ideas on a comfortable jock/cup combination?

Is there a way to stay logged in between visits? It's kind of a PITA to have to log back in on every visit.

Back to the subject. Breaking in is only something you do with composite bats, aluminum bats don't need to be broken in, right? I've heard something about bat rolling machines. Are those used for breaking in bats?

What is happening to the bat during break in? It seems odd to me that a bat gets 'better' after it's been hit 100 times or so.

Discussion: What is a team bat?

I'm looking at the warranty for the Rip-It Senior and it says "bats that have been used by teams or associations' or "used for team batting practice" are not covered. If I let a teammate use my bat am I voiding the warranty?
